Zg Session 43

Aleith|DM: Spring 9
Aleith|DM: Phyllis arrives in the morning to find out that she's had a letter delivered to her from Vlendam Heid (( http://storagebin.wikidot.com/zg-case-notes ))
Aleith|DM: A bit after you've all arrived at RHC HQ and gotten some paperwork taken care of, the royal technologist, Justin Rollins, arrives to take a look at the bronze golem that was found early Autumn, which Serena (and maybe Ernst) have been looking at in their spare time.
Aleith|DM: The large man has a 'pet contraption' the size of a small dog following him on four legs which carries his toolstools—plus a box of chocolates.
Aleith|DM: When it was found, the golem was in hundreds of pieces. Serena's spent most of her efforts to bend bits back into shape so she could assemble the body. Right now, one and a half arms, one leg, and the bulk of the torse are assembled, minus a few external casing pieces.
Ernst has likely been helping out with that. Better to put his talents to use somewhere than stay on paperwork all day.
Aleith|DM: The head’s back area is mostly intact, but the face and eyes are obliterated, and Serena hasn’t tried attaching it to the body yet, unsure what would happen. She explains that it radiates magic still, and she thinks it could still control the body if reattached. Her hunch is that it could be given orders, perhaps even something like 'take us back to your base.'
Phyllis engages in correspondence with the man mentioned in Heid's letter, Gorbatiy, and plans to meet him for lunch at a tavern at some point.
Justin: "Alright. Can we strap what we've got of the body down on the table? I'll try attaching the head, and we don't want the machine flailing around."
Zane has finished his official paperwork for the moment and is looking at a map of the city. "Hm? If it moves we can just kill it again…"
Zane: "Serena could use the distraction."
Justin: "Less paperwork this way though."
Zane: "Valid."
Aleith|DM: After a few minutes of work with silver dust he pulls from his contraption (and a piece of chocolate to munch on) and wires engraved with arcane sigils, he magically fuses a thick cable between the back of the skull and the neck. The head still lies limply.
Aleith|DM: The body twitches a bit, and then the fingers on its functional right hand begin tapping the table.
Gerald: "Uh sure yeah, I guess."
Zane continues marking things down on his map. "That is thus far significantly less violent than I was expecting."
Gerald‘ glances at the robot, rolls a shrug, then reaches into a desk drawr. A moment later he slips the pen into its hand and a piece of paper under it.
Aleith|DM: Justin gives you a bit of a glance, but then shrugs.
Ernst: "That’s Morse Code, no?"
Aleith|DM: The golem starts writing with the pen (roughly and blindly, so it's a bit difficult to read, but mostly legible):
Gerald: "Uh not quite, but similar sort of deal."
Grappa: "I am Alexander Grappa, the mindmaker. A magical compulsion prevents me from explaining everything, but I believe we have mutual enemies."
Grappa: "Don’t bother repairing the mouth. I did not design this golem for vocal communication. I would very much appreciate functional eyes, however. And if I’m to guide you to our mutual enemies I’ll need legs. I have a feeling that my neck isn’t in excellent shape either."
Grappa: "Back in summer I was in my own body, imprisoned after I learned a secret that I unfortunately cannot share. Again, pardon certain vagaries that are necessary due to my geas. I fled the Bleak Gate with a woman and this golem at my side. A rival caught up and slew me, but I managed to transfer my consciousness into this machine. My rival destroyed this golem body, but did not realize he had failed to actually kill me."
Grappa: "I would rather like to thwart his plans and help the aforementioned woman. If sufficiently reassembled I can guide you through the…the most I can say is to call it a facility. I cannot get to the Bleak Gate myself, but I know my way from there."
Grappa: "In exchange for this, perhaps you could arrange me access to my old golemcrafting workshop. Ask around for Alexander Grappa, and I hope people will have heard of me. It would be very nice to design a better body for myself."
Chandrasekhar raises -both- eyebrows from where he's leaning against a wall and watching. (Or, probably, listening, since someone's probably reading it out loud.)
Garrett: "…man, all the weirdos are coming out of the woodwork at the same time."
Justin: "It'll probably take me about a day to get Mr. Grappa functional again." He says more quietly to you, "I suggest keeping him locked up—maybe toss him a few books to read or something—until we can be sure we can trust him."
Gerald: "And how." Gerald nods to Garrett.
Zane: "He'd need eyes first…"
Gerald‘ glances back over at the robot. "Hey, you mean Ob right?"
Ernst: "I don’t think we have anything to lose to follow him. Let's get to work on getting him some eyes and legs, yes?"
Garrett‘ nods. "You’re the expert, so let us know what we need to keep -our- eyes peeled for."
Zane frowns at his map. Erases some marks.
Chandrasekhar: "I didn't know -any- of that was a thing that a person could do." He lets out a tiny little puff of breath, either horrified or intrigued or both.
Ernst: "Maybe find someone to dispel this supposed geas they have as well. I doubt they can do more than vaguely talk about things and bring us somewhere if this 'magical compulsion' isn't dealt with."
Aleith|DM: Grappa scribbles out a question. "The Ob?"
Phyllis is just staring at the machine. Ditto what Chandra said.
Zane: "I dunno, we've already fought a few big golems will of a bunch of souls, a small one that only runs on one seems a reasonable transition."
Gerald: "I mean, if ghosts can possess people, stands to reason it's possible for people to possess machines, probably." Gerald pauses, then continues towards the robot. "I forget what they call themselfs. Not Ouborus. Something like Obscure? But fancier."
Zane: "Obscurati."
Garrett: "Obscurati."
Gerald: "Yeah, that's the one."
Chandrasekhar: "Obstreperous assholes?" Chandra's helpful.
Garrett: "Synonyms."
Phyllis: "A … um. Hm. Even if you can't say, we do know that using such a geas is in their modus operandi."
Ernst: "I think you could benefit from doing the paperwork, Gerald. Having to write that out two dozen times would do you wonders."
Grappa: "Yes, that is what their operation was called."
Zane: "'Those who bring darkness'. I'm going to kill them just for volating several ordinances about being too pretentious within city limits."
Gerald: "I don't really think it's SUPER important that we refer to them by the pretencious name they choose."
Gerald‘ grins at Zane.
Zane: "I said arrest, right? Because I definitely meant arrest."
Gerald: "S’what I heard."
Grappa: "Ob works fine."
Garrett: "It does in paperwork and aligning waterfowl."
Zane: "Good man."
Gerald: "Oh!"
Gerald: "Right we should probably ask - can you name who slapped the geas on you? That seems maybe kinda relevant."
Ernst: "How much do you actually know about geas, Phyllis? Do we have anyone on the force that can remove them? Can you?"
Grappa: "I cannot name them. That seems to be part of the geas."
Ernst: "Mind fuckery is not exactly my forte."
Gerald: "Geas are the worst. What about why it's on you?"
Grappa: "The worst kind of a non-disclosure agreement."
Chandrasekhar snickers at Zane.
Chandrasekhar: "…what are your specialties? You called yourself 'the mindmaker'."
Phyllis: "My compulsions and charms are of a different variety than this geas. Mine can only suggest and guide, but they cannot force someone to do what they, deep down, do not want."
Phyllis: "I've thought of ways around them. Scrying and divination. Dispelling them may be possible, but it's beyond my ken. We could defer to someone on the force."
Ernst shakes his head. "I'll leave it to you, then. I'm going to go see what we can do about the legs and eyes." He glances at Serena.
Grappa: "After the Third Yerasol War, I devoted myself to learning the magic of golem-crafting to try and avoid shedding the blood of our nation's young men and women. Eventually, my interest slowly drifted to crafting minds for those artificial warriors, as well as enchantment magic and other ways to end conflict without anyone dying."
Phyllis: "Would some sort of scrying beacon suffice for the eyes? I've no idea where you'd transmit the information -to-, but."
Gerald: "Neat!"
Serena produces tools out of nowhere like a goddamn wizard of fixing things and murder, and gets to work with Ernst.
Chandrasekhar: "A noble aim, ser." He leans back against the wall. "…and so the Ob wished for you to… ahahahahaah. Oh, dear."
Gerald: "Oh."
Gerald: "OH."
Chandrasekhar: "You must be -very- good at what you do."
Gerald: "Okay that all makes sense now."
Grappa: "I like to think so."
Gerald: "Oh man I wonder if they just wanted him to make the frame, or if they wanted an artifical mind inside of it too."
Chandrasekhar: "I think he just answered that question, don't you?" He smiles wryly.
Phyllis: "Um."
Zane: "I'd be willing to bet they wanted both. But I doubt they got it."
Phyllis: "I'm afraid I don't follow this one."
Gerald‘ places a hand oh Phyllis’ shoulder.
Gerald: "They CLEARLY are building a gigantic, multi story high robot capable of wonton murder and destruction in the bleak gate. A man made titan!"
Chandrasekhar: "The Obscurati are building a steel godling in the Bleak Gate, and you owe me a fancy dinner." He pushes off from the wall.
Gerald: "C'mon."
Justin and Serena just kind of boggle at this.
Justin: "Here?!"
Serena: "In the Bleak Gate?!"
Chandrasekhar: "Oh, that's confidential, by the way."
Gerald: "…Oh."
Garrett: "Yeah, may want to keep that under a lid for now."
Zane: "No, in the Bleak Gate. Weren't you listening?"
Garrett: "Just try to act surprised if and when it shows up."
Phyllis: "Aha. I was getting hung up on the rival, thinking the Obscurati wanted to silence him."
Gerald: "I thought they were in on all this. My bad,:
Justin: "…duly noted."
Phyllis: "In a more permanent manner."
Chandrasekhar: "Goddess, they're idiots to have lost you. I'd say that's evidence that they're quite close to being -done-, except they haven't exactly thought their cunning plan through completely until now."
Grappa: "Well, they tried to stop me."
Chandrasekhar: "That's comforting."
Phyllis: "Stop you from completing it, or stop you from saying more?"
Grappa: "From leaving."
Grappa: "They've clearly stopped me from saying more."
Gerald: "Oh oh oh."
Gerald: "Why'd you change you mind and try and pull out?"
Grappa: "Something I can't tell you unfortunately."
Phyllis: "… Why'd you agree to begin with?"
Zane: "Can you tell us how close you were to being done?"
Gerald: "…True nature of their end goal?"
Gerald: "I feel like that could get a yes/no, probably."
Grappa: "They promised I could help create peace. I unfortunately can't answer the rest of those."
Garrett: "That seems to be their go-to recruitment pitch, yeah."
Gerald: "…Hmm…"
Phyllis: "I'm … going to go ask Delft how to contact Harkover."
Chandrasekhar: "Bastards…"
Phyllis ambles off and does so.
Aleith|DM: He's usually at the Hotel Aurum with the King.
Gerald: "Alright I got one. How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?"
Grappa: "…"
Gerald: "Man, they really thought of everything on that geas!"
Garrett‘ snickers.
Grappa: "Ha Ha."
Garrett: "You dumb idiot." He goodnaturedly and halfheartedly punches Gerald on the shoulder.
Zane: "It’s amusing and a little sad that Lya works among them and they still think they can succeed. It makes me wonder what they teach at the Jierre Sciens d'Arms. You can't force a lasting peace, no matter how many people you kill."
Gerald: "Ow."
Phyllis: Or, well, if she knows, then there'se no reason to wander off.
Phyllis: "The Eschatologists - at least the more radical ones - would disagree with you."
Phyllis: "If it's 'all of them' then, well."
Zane: "Hm, OK I will grant you that as long as there is no more than a single person left, peace is possible."
Zane frowns and marks more on his map. "Any more than that and all bets are off."
Chandrasekhar: "Peace isn't something you force. It's something you grow. Goddess burn them all, what's their -endgame-?"
Zane: "Mass murder."
Garrett: "Rule over the ashes."
Gerald: "Uhh…"
Garrett: "There's a really morbid part of me that wonders just exactly who they'd spare, because I doubt they're all hardcore Eschatologists."
Garrett: "But I'm way too practical to actually care."
Gerald: "If I had to make a guess I'd vote " kill the Titans and any God that channels them, unite the world under their banner, then either seal off any and all portals into our world, orrrr maybe go through one and repeat.' "
Zane: "I keep trying to talk to Lya to find that out, actually. But for some reason she keeps refusing to come alone to private meals with me."
Phyllis: "She's not a fan of mandrake root, I hear."
Phyllis: "Maybe that's why."
Gerald: "Since like… I could TOTALLY see how you could frame that as good and justifiable and whatnot, but still kinda dumb."
Chandrasekhar pinches the bridge of his nose, and almost chuckles at Zane and Phyllis. "…that's, uh. That's… they have a strange definition of peace."
[OOC] Gerald: -channels +challenges
Phyllis: "We all find it eventually."
Zane rubs at his neck. "In a war more sooner than later."
Aleith|DM: When you get back to your office, there's a letter from Captain Dale, head of the garrison of soliders atop Cauldron Hill. It's an invitation to meet up with him since he hopes to be working with you once you have access to the Bleak Gate for your assault—he's been informed by the King. He can help you prepare. He's also heard about Mr. Bieto's new weapon and would love to discuss it and some other theories sometime. He can meet you at the garrison, or down in the city if you'd prefer.
Zane: "Oh, that's handy."
Zane: "Should we arrange a dinner date with the good Captain, d'you think?"
Gerald: "As good a reason as any to go get some food."
Garrett: "It'd be good to meet with one of our strike leaders, yeah."
Garrett: "Next few days are going to be extremely busy."
[OOC] Zane: Hm. dinner on spring 11, I think. that gives us a few days of house cleaning and then a good meal before finalizing the operations
Zane: "Yeah… I'll set it up for dinner on the 11th."
Aleith|DM: He gets back to you a bit later and recommends meeting at the Bookhouse. They apparently serve the best papaya pastries.
Zane sends an enthusiastic confirmation .
[OOC] Garrett: "absolutely horrid ambient music though."
Aleith|DM: Alright. You meet with Sergeant Deb Macon later that morning after you've gotten the rest of things sorted out.
[OOC] Aleith|DM: tutorial time

Aleith|DM: And in North Shore they found a Front that the guild is using, a high-end boutique.
Macon: "I'd suggest sending some scouts to check out the Front, but we'll have to guess how many people will be at the transaction."

Zane rolled 1d20+10 and got 17 ( Total: 27.0 ) for Scouting Front in North End (3 officers)

Aleith|DM: Well, they took out the front, but 3 officers are down :( 1 TFT obtained.
[OOC] Zane: I hate not being able to scout a sting. ughhh
Aleith|DM: You can wait until you have some more information to see what kinda of numbers you might expect first.
[OOC] Zane: ooh, how do I get more info?

Aleith|DM: Bluff?
Zane rolled 1d20+10 and got 6 ( Total: 16.0 ) for Pretty ballsy running operations this close to the precinct, though…
Aleith|DM: Central's a big place. But they found a bar there, called 'Taste of Home', that the guild is using as a Den of Thieves.
Zane rolled 1d20+10 and got 13 ( Total: 23.0 ) for scouting Taste of Home
Aleith|DM: Stealth?
Zane rolled 1d20+10 and got 3 ( Total: 13.0 )

Zane rolled 1d20+10 and got 11 ( Total: 21.0 )
Aleith|DM: Doesn't look like Kell's Guild operates this far out. They find some things for the Pine District police to check out later, but they're 'just' regular smugglers and the like.
[OOC] Zane: awesome
[OOC] Zane: and I dont have to Case strongholds, we know where they are? I just go straight to Scouting them?
Aleith|DM: Yep
Zane dispatches Gerald to scout the Theater of Scoundrels and cashes in a TFT for +2 Perception.
Gerald‘ has even been there before!
Gerald` rolled d20+16 and got 13 ( Total: 29 )
Aleith|DM: Stealth check!
Gerald` rolled d20+17 and got 17 ( Total: 34 )
Aleith|DM: They don’t notice you, but wow, there's a whole lot of them.
Zane sent you for a reason! Good job, rookie!
Aleith|DM: All-in-all, there's probably a hundred guys in the Theatre and the nearby buildings.
[OOC] Zane: FFFFFFFFFFF
[OOC] Zane: OK so theater is definitely the part all-in on that raid, jesus christ
[OOC] Zane: *the party
Gerald‘ starts to get bored of counting after a while, but does his best to get an accurate number before bugging out.
Aleith|DM: Kell does seem to be in there though.
Zane then dispatches Garrett to scout the Grand Suites.
Aleith|DM: Alright. Perception?
Garrett` rolled 1d20+13 and got 18 ( Total: 31 ) for perception
Aleith|DM: And Stealth to avoid notice.
Garrett` rolled 1d20+18 and got 14 ( Total: 32 ) for stealth
Garrett` vanishes into the district.
Aleith|DM: You’re good. Gunmen watch from the upper windows of this fancy six-story tower in Parity Lake. There looks to be 30 hostiles. While you're snooping around, it looks like there's some underground tunnels that lead from it that they could use for an escape route-or reinforcements.
Garrett‘ figures out the worst killzones, notes the tunnels… wonders if they could turn that on them.
[OOC] Zane: hmmm.
[OOC] Zane: 55 men left at the moment still?
Aleith|DM: Yeah
Zane dispatches 3 officers to scout Casa de Kell
Zane rolled 2#1d20+10(1) and got 10 ( Total: 20.0 )
Also rolled 2#1d20+10(2) and got 18 [Total: 28.0 (High), Avg: 18.00]

Total: 56.0, Avg: 18.00
Aleith|DM: Machete Hill looks to have 21 hostiles. This gated compound has several squat buildings with quaint shuttered windows, laid out at angles so attackers entering the gate have to pass through a crossfire of cannons. Yes, cannons.
[OOC] Zane: 49 left. Hm…
Zane misappropriates some government manpower into the Cloudwood to look for guild business and that rogue fey (6 officers)
Zane rolled 2#1d20+10(1) and got 15 ( Total: 25.0 )
Also rolled 2#1d20+10(2) and got 9 [Total: 19.0 (Low), Avg: 9.00]
Total: 44.0, Avg: 12.00

[OOC] Zane: oh my god they got Teakwood! Those bastards!!!
Zane sends 18 men to bust that thieves den in the Nettles.
Aleith|DM: Alright. Intimidate?
Zane rolled 1d20+10 and got 3 ( Total: 13.0 )
[OOC] Zane: damn it sugar.
Aleith|DM: They don't back down without a fight, but it looks like there were only…4 hostiles there? That's odd. 4 officers down after they manage to arrest them all.
[OOC] Zane: 35 officers left…
[OOC] Zane: whoop 31
[OOC] Zane: +2 TFT for busting that theives den?
Aleith|DM: has to be called first
[OOC] Zane: no I mean 'as a reward for busting it' not 'spent on the roll'
Aleith|DM: Oh right
Aleith|DM: yes +2 TFTs, I read that wrong
[OOC] Zane: offscreen mathemagics, 22 left!
Zane saves the manpower, sinds Chandrasekhar to bust up that fucking thieves den in Central. Seriously, that takes some cojones.
Aleith|DM: Alright. Intimidate check!
Chandrasekhar is fierce as fuck! (Actually, it's more 'shows up out of the moon-crazy blue'.)
Aleith|DM: But first, Diplomacy check to get bystanders out of the way of any crossfire.
Chandrasekhar rolled d20+16 and got 1 ( Total: 17 ) for Diplomacy
[OOC] Chandrasekhar: Christ, Sugar.
Aleith|DM: Well, you still manage to convince them to get out of the way. You're that good.
Aleith|DM: Intimidate!
Chandrasekhar rolled d20+15 and got 3 ( Total: 18 ) for Intimidate
Aleith|DM: They don't come quietly.
[OOC] Phyllis: can't botcha if you can't pon.
Aleith|DM rolled 6d6 and got 5, 5, 4, 6, 1, 2 ( Total: 23 )
Aleith|DM: You take 23 damage.
Chandrasekhar gets the job done and that's what matters.
Aleith|DM: But you take it down. +2 TFTs
Zane is not fucking around and takes Phyllis, Ernst, and the rest of the officers to bust that fake eladrin smuggling ring while Singh is distracted. (( effectively 46 officers. ))
[OOC] Zane: also 1 TFT for +1 on the Imitimidate
Aleith|DM: +2 actually
[OOC] Zane: *+2 yeah
Phyllis gets in there, all spooky-eyed. [Spook to replace Intimidate with Arcana?]
Aleith|DM: Alright. Intimidate! (full bonus)
Zane rolled 1d20+17 and got 8 ( Total: 25.0 )
[OOC] Zane: or +22 with Phyllis' thing! that works too
Aleith|DM: Actually, recounting, that, you actually got -5 to that.
Aleith|DM: Perception check? The building's not stable.
[OOC] Zane: jesus christ D: OK so Phyllis' thing -5 is my thing, so net 25
Zane rolled 1d20+12 and got 10 ( Total: 22.0 ) for glad I brought Ernst!
Aleith|DM: Alright, you managed to avoid collapsing the building from the amount of officers you brought.
Aleith|DM: But turns out there was 16 hostiles involved. You managed to get them to surrender without a fight!
Zane tries to have it all buttoned up and done before Singh finds out. No sense in a bunch of people getting murdered. <_<
Aleith|DM: +1 TFT, +1 Strike!
Zane out of manpower for the day.
Zane menu close.
Aleith|DM: You sure are. Good job.
[OOC] Phyllis: "Would you like to know the status of our Einherjar?"
[OOC] Zane: gahahahaha
[OOC] Chandrasekhar: pffhhahaha
Aleith|DM: Yes. Two cops are assasinated during the night.
[OOC] Zane: well fuck me sideways
[OOC] Garrett: can't arrest an omelette
Aleith|DM: Everyone can make Intelligence checks.
Garrett‘ rolled 1d20 and got 18 ( Total: 18 ) for int 11
Zane rolled d20+0 and got 8 ( Total: 8 )
Aleith|DM: Add 1/2 level (Int Mod + 5)
[OOC] Garrett: 23 then
[OOC] Zane: so 13 for me
Chandrasekhar rolled d20+6 and got 10 ( Total: 16 )
Phyllis rolled d20+10 and got 9 ( Total: 19.0 )
Gerald` rolled d20+5 and got 12 ( Total: 17 )
Garrett` rolled 1d20+10 and got 2 ( Total: 12 ) for ernst
Aleith|DM: Well, you manage to figure out who misreported the numbers on the tavern, and managed to figure out the true culprits of the murders that happened during the night. Looks like you had a few moles in the task force after all.
Aleith|DM: (3 passes)
[OOC] Gerald: NOT FOR LONG
Aleith|DM: Well, no, they’re in jail now.
Aleith|DM: Alright. So you guys were busy during the afternoon.
Aleith|DM: Anyway, while Zane was organizing all of this, but before he needed your help in the Nettles breaking up a slave-trade ring, Phyllis met up with Kvarti Gorbatiy at The Empty Glass Tavern.
Phyllis puts on her best resplendent finery (but not her Resplendent Finery) to meet with her … 'date.'
Phyllis sits down at a table, looking from a menu early before Kvarti gets there. Ale, ale, or how about ale?
Aleith|DM: Sure, looks good. When your order arrives, it shows up on the mirror beside you, though you still don't.
Aleith|DM: Nor does Kvarti when he arrives a few minutes after you. He's not as dressed up, mostly in professional-looking working clothes that won't get in the way during a tussle.
Kvarti: "Hello again, Ms. Lenz." He takes a seat at your booth and starts looking at the menu.
Phyllis: "Good seeing you again."
Phyllis: "It's been some time. Have you been well in the meantime?"
Kvarti: "I've actually been back in Flint most of that time. It's been fine. How's the investigation business?"
Phyllis: "Messy. Chaotic. Wouldn't trade it for anything."
Phyllis: "I ran into Heid personally in my travels, actually. We've been exchanging letters, and your name recently came up."
Kvarti: "Fascinating. I've written some correspondence with him, and he really helped clarify some of the finer details with me. What'd he have to say?"
Phyllis: "Small world."
Phyllis puts both hands on the table and steeples them, looking at Kvarti with a somber, serious expression. "He mentioned your involvement with Komanov. I'm curious about that, myself. He and I agree that his lot have simplified and distorted his original intent. I think you're smarter than that, so I figure there must be something else."
Kvarti sighs heavily. "They were behind that attack on the University, weren't they?"
Phyllis: "Most definitely. And Heid seems to think you're better than that."
Kvarti: "He's right." He shakes his head. "That's it, I'm out. He's not paying me enough to keep quiet after something like that."
Phyllis raises an eyebrow. "I hadn't even proposed a counter-offer. But thank you."
Phyllis: "Do you know what else they were planning?"
Kvarti: "Not much, sorry. Zubov contracted me a few months ago. I helped them scout out some of the tunnel system and aquire documents to get them into the city without drawing any attention."
Kvarti: "I thought this was all leading up to an assassination attempt - my bet that I was being hired to kill the reincarnated man, Governor Stanfield, but I seem to have been mistaken. Zubov didn't clue me in on much, but I didn't sign up for mass murder."
Phyllis: "Tunnel system and a paper trail. That at least gives us something to work on."
Kvarti: "They're working out of a place called Soknik Repairs - and the sewers under it. I can draw you a map to get you in to their workshop under there."
Phyllis nods grimly. "They're a bad lot. They've taken 'prepare for the end' as if it's something we should hasten ourselves towards, firing our star out of a cannon to its target or something of the like."
Phyllis: "We knew the first bit, but not the latter. That would be much appreciated."
Kvarti: "The trapdoor's in the backroom. I'm supposed to be watching the place during the day from an apartment across the way, but I'm through with them now. They've just got someone watching the building, not that it gets much business."
Kvarti starts sketching a rough map on a napkin. "This'll get you to their hideout underneath, but I can't promise it'll be clear of trouble. They haven't let me go back down there since they set up shop."
Phyllis: "If this turns out to be good, I have no idea how I'll repay you later. Thank you."
Kvarti: "If you want my help, just say the word."
Phyllis: "Sure thing. Keep out of trouble."
Kvarti: "Right. The doomsday cult had some kind of meeting planned at the docks off Golden Point tomorrow night. Doomsdays cult, I mean. Multiple days of doom."
Phyllis: "Also good to know. Hopefully we're not otherwise occupied."
Kvarti: "Alright. Take care of yourselves out there."
Phyllis: "Likewise. Hope everything ends well for you."
Kvarti: "And you as well."
