TheTale: Day Three - Dawn. Director Sophia wakes you up with a clang of a spoon against an iron pot.
TheTale: "Wakey wakey, everybody! Another day in paradise."
TheTale: Doing the rounds from wagon to wagon.
Linlea groans as she rolls over mumbling something about just one more minute. She eventually makes her way out of the wagon but she looks like a dead man walking.
Eris‘ pokes her head out of the wagon she’d been sleeping in. "There's a lot less tropical beaches, fruity coctails and people in swimsuits than I imagined paradise would have, Sophia."
Eris: "Also not a single umbrella in site…?"
[OOC] Eris: sight^
TheTale: "Turns out it's actually an old world word meaning 'goddess-forsaken hellhole', surprising you and me both."
Eris: "What a scam!"
Linlea glances between the two for a moment before opening her mouth. "Gonna go get Maria, right…?"
TheTale: She rallies everyone around the campfire. The food's, well, what the Palace spared. It's okay.
TheTale: Jack's sulking.
TheTale: "Mornin, Er," she says, beneath her hat.
Eris: "Yeah. I figure we can probably eat there too and save the caravan a bit on supplies."
Linlea nods to Jack. "How you been holding up?"
Eris‘ finally pulls herself out of the wagon, giving Jack a lazy wave. "Mornin’."
TheTale: "Ugh," she says. "But intact. How's the front lines?"
TheTale: Sophia nudges Jack in the shoulder as she takes a seat by her.
Eris: "Surpringly full of whiners."
Eris: "Though they mostly seem easy to manipulate or destroy so it's not too bad."
Charlotte stretches before joining them outside the wagon. "I'm not sure what's surprising about that."
Eris: "How's the market?" Eris grins a bit.
Linlea groggily glances to her side. "… oh. That wasn't a jab at me after all."
Eris‘ reaches out to ruffle Linlea’s hair.
TheTale: "What market? Even the nobles here are beggars."
Eris: "I really wish I could've seen the look on your face when you realized they don't have currency here, and hardly even barter."
TheTale: "Here, I'll make it again."
TheTale: She does. It's not a good look.
Eris‘ raises a hand to her mouth and giggles into it.
Linlea: "I think I’ve had enough paradise for one lifetime." She nods not looking very happy.
Eris: "How've things been here, otherwise anyway you two?"
Micca: Director Sophia looks off. "We're a little stir-crazy, I think, and last night was colder than we'd like."
Micca: "Getting the wagons through the Glozenfeld might be dicey."
Linlea: "What's your main concern?"
TheTale: "Ice and slush."
Eris: "Well look on the bright side. If it keeps getting colder, the slush might freeze into ice and it'll just be one issue instead of two."
TheTale: "Right. The lakes are… still treacherous."
Eris: "Hm. Well, it we end in a favorable position with the cort maybe we can get a ride across it on their ship."
Eris: "Speaking of which, we should probably be on our way sooner rather than later. We've got a suspected assassin to free and present as the Queen's new captain of the guard."
Charlotte shakes her head softly. "That's going to be… something."
Eris: "Silly or tense, I suspect."
Eris: "Perhaps even both!"
Linlea: "Let's just hope the queen is true to her word."
TheTale: "Would be nice." Sophia serves up another helping of stew to the driver, whose appetite is boundless.
TheTale: "How many days off are we from departing?"
Eris: "She doesn't strike me as the lying sort." A pause. "seven days at the latest. Sooner if we're quick and solve problems."
TheTale: "Well, that's what we brought you along to be."
Linlea: "I'd like to aim for six. Being anywhere near the two cities when the ice and fire part of the prophecy happens is not going to be fun times."
Eris: "Mmhm. Thing's been going fairly well so far, I think."
Eris‘ pulls Linlea’s PDA out of her pocket and hands it back to her with an encountr thread open. "Apparently the natives destroyed some kind of big scary fiend, too…? We'll see how that works out."
TheTale: Well, if that post is up, then this happened by now:
TheTale: Past the walls, there's a tremendous explosion in the sky, a particle-spray of rainbow-colored light.
Eris: "…A fairly powerful one, judging from the display."
Linlea: "Not complaining. I was kind of hoping for an easy fight after what we just dealt with."
Eris: 'Haha. And yet we have the old captain lined up instead…! "
Linlea: "You think he's going to be that tough?"
Eris‘ gets to her fett, brushing her skirt off. "The narrative is framing him as such, at least."
Eris: "I suppose there’s a possibility D2's generals won't be up to snuff but that seems… unlikely?"
Linlea looks rather downcast from the remark. "… we almost lost to a stuffed doll. Not looking that good, huh?"
Eris: "Well for what it's worth."
Eris: "I don't intend to give him a handicap this time."
Eris: "At any rate. Unless there's anything else we should know," She glances towards Sophia and Jack, "We should probably go collect *our* natives and get to work."
TheTale: "Just best of luck out there, is all." Sophia says. Jack tips her hat.
Eris: "Oh right,"
Linlea nods before heading off towards Maria's house.
Eris: "We sort of formed a make shift alliance with the Services here…? So be nice if any show up, I suppose."
Eris‘ gives a quick curtsie, then heads after Linlea.
Charlotte curtsies before heading off also.
TheTale: Jack looks as if she’s going to say something, but then… doesn't say it before Eris is gone.
TheTale: "The Services?" she decides on, eventually.
TheTale: The Altsie Manor.
Eris‘ turned around breifly while walking to show a very pleasent sounding "Yes Jack!" before they fell out of earshot, of course.
[OOC] Eris: oh wait unless she said that after we were out of ear shot. EITHER WAY
Eris` pushes the door bell to the manor when they arrive in any case.
TheTale: Rebuchet answers. "Good morning, Lady Eris."
TheTale: "Shall I wake Lady Maria for you?"
Eris: "Good morning! Yes, please."
Linlea grumbles something about not having to wake up to a clanging of pots.
TheTale: Rebuchet heads upstairs and gently stirs Maria awake, a cup of tea at her bedside table.
Maria wakes up a bit slowly, but thanks Rebuchet for the tea before glancing outside. "Ugh, they couldn’t let me sleep a bit longer, could they?"
Zen is at the bottom of the stairs already, watching Rebuchet walk up, he looks out the doorway and waves to Eris
Maria: It's several more minutes before she comes downstairs, dressed, meeting them at the table for breakfast.
Eris: "Good morning to you both!"
Linlea gives a nod to Zen before sitting at the table to wait for Maria.
Charlotte: "Good morning."
Zen certainly enjoys the tea at breakfast "How were things in the caravan?"
Eris: "Could be better, could be worse. They're getting by."
Eris: "Is your uncle typically a late riser as well?"
Linlea: "I'm just glad to see everyone is alright. Alice has been a huge help."
TheTale: "Has she?" Rebuchet comments. "Well, I am sure her family will be very proud ofher."
Linlea visibly freezes up for a moment before nodding back.
Eris‘ pauses, before tilting her head toward Rebuchet. "You know Alice?"
Maria heads in around now. "I think my uncle said mornings weren’t the best time to catch him last night. I'm pretty sure he's still snoring away right now."
TheTale: Rebuchet's eyes click, an opalescent filter passing over them. "Oh, I'm sorry."
TheTale: "I missheard."
TheTale: "And misspoke."
Zen: "Well, we're off to a good start"
Eris: "Oh."
Zen: "We still need him to plead a case, however"
Eris: "Anywho."
Zen: "I am very certain he wouldn't complain to being woken for such"
Eris: "Yeah! We should proably wake him and let him know in either case, although if you know the process for pleading a case to the court you could take point instead….?"
Eris: "As it turns out Kline is quite agreeable when you offer to free her in exchange for her help."
Maria: "Oh, I'm pretty sure he'd complain, but he'd still do it."
Eris: "So if you wouldn't mind," She turns back to Rebuchet, "Would you be a dear and attempt to rouse him?"
TheTale: "I shall do my best."
Eris: "Thank you."
TheTale: Rebuchet heads upstairs, to Fiomont's room.
TheTale: She returns about six minutes later, calling down from the upper landing -
TheTale: "I apologize, Lady Eris."
TheTale: "I have failed."
Maria: "What's wrong, Rebuchet?"
Eris: "Ah, well."
Linlea chuckles. "I hope you're not planning on storming in there yourself, Eris?"
Eris: "…Admittedly he probably wouldn't complain too much about a cute, young woman barging into his room… Hmm!"
Charlotte: "All else fails, I find a bucket of cold water usually works."
Maria: "I belive that would make him less inclined to help you, sorry."
Eris: "Though, would you know what to do if we by ourselves, Maria?"
Charlotte: "Oh, that may be true."
TheTale: "He's still asleep," she explains, from the same distance.
Maria: "Uh….no. Maybe? I might be able to fake it, but it probably wouldn't go that well."
Eris: "Hrm."
Maria: "He did say he didn't really do mornings."
Maria: "We can try waking him up if you instist, but you could always come back later."
Eris: "I knoooow, but I don't really want to waste the morning!"
Eris: "It's not like we've anything else to do in town."
Maria: "I'm sure there's lots to do in town. You just haven't found it yet."
Eris: "My my, that was an awfully dangerous thing to say."
Maria rolls her eyes. "I'm sure."
Eris: "Well. What do the rest of you think?"
Maria: "Did you find out anything about Plenes from Kline?"
Zen: "I'd rather not aggravate the man before we request his help"
Eris: "No, she didn't seem to want to talk about her."
Maria: "Any evidence it wasn't her?"
Zen: "Forensic evidence indicates it was impossible it was her"
Eris: "General mathmatics and physics suggest it couldn't have been her."
Maria: "Ah. Anything else we can use?"
Linlea: "As foreigners I think it's super important to get someone knowledgeable on our side to help us out. And the best way to do that is to NOT barge into their room and wake them up at the first sign of sunlight after a night of drinking."
Charlotte: "We could always investigate the lead in the Lost Quarters and then come back? At least it's not that far from the city."
Linlea: "If you try to rush things or don't cater to the individual they'll just get mad and tell you to get out of their house!" She nods knowingly.
Eris‘ writes out ’i'm surrounded by killjoys' with the scrambled eggs and potatoe peices on her plate briefly, before shoveling the rest of it into her mouth.
Eris: "Well mostly I'm just counting on Kline not arguing it, to be honest. It's not like any one there seems to particuularly care about evidence either way."
Zen: "Eris is right, that's our best bet. That said, Charlotte has a good idea"
Eris: "I suppose~"
Charlotte: "It would be a way to potentially be productive while waiting for him to be up and about."
Eris: "Charlotte wins, then."
Maria: "Dawn is probably not the best time to try waking up someone with a hangover, yes."
Maria: "Not sure how well he'd be in court either this early."
Eris: 'I get it, I get it. "
Eris‘ pours herself a glass of orange juice, before chugging it down. "Lets get to it then."
Linlea nods to Eris before getting out of her seat.
Maria: "Thank you for breakfast, Rebuchet. It was amazing as always. Could you prepare a portable tea set, please?"
Zen nods, picks up a last piece of pastry "Thank you for the breakfast and lodging" he goes after Eris
Eris` gives Maria an amused look.
Maria: "The comforts of home, right?"
TheTale: "Certainly." Rebuchet does, in fact, prepare just that, tying the bundle with a white ribbon.
Maria: "Thank you," she says nodding to her. She then hands it to Charlotte.
Charlotte smiles and stores it carefully away. "Thank you, and thank you as well for breakfast."
Eris` gives Rebuchet an appreciate nod, before heading out.
TheTale: "The pleasure was all mine, Lady Maria."
TheTale: Where to?
Zen is following Charlotte’s lead, she's the one that remembers where they're going
Eris: ~ The Lost Quarters ~
TheTale: Ash and smoke.
TheTale: Somewhere, underneath the wreckage, something eternal burns here.
[OOC] Charlotte: Looking for the Svengelion, which should have the body of Reonold Cimer-Dupont on it.
Eris‘ pulls an umbrella out and opens it up as the enter the area. "Tell me again why this area is still on fire despite all the snow…?"
Maria shrugs. "Not sure how it still has fuel, to be honest."
Zen: "Coal fire underground"
Zen: "How that fire’s survived this long, no idea"
Charlotte: "Ambience?"
Eris: "Aha."
Eris‘ gives Charlotte a look, pauses to consider. "Actually I suppose that might be it."
TheTale: A bit of searching. Eventually, after the party climbs a ruined tower to get a look at things, they find -
TheTale: It’s faint, but there seems to be a scar rent across the Quarter.
TheTale: A deep slash, worn in among the normal ruin.
TheTale: And then, at its end, the ground gives way to a sinkhole.
TheTale: …It's a lead!
Eris: "Huh."
Charlotte: "A crash before the ground gve way underneath it?"
Eris: "Zen? Gentlemen first!"
Zen looks down "Certainly, a moment" he produces some rope, firmly attaches it somewhere at the edge, then he starts climbing down
Eris: "Make sure to shout if anything kills you when you reach the bottom!"
TheTale: The smell of coal and rot, as Zen approaches the chasm.
TheTale: Monsters: Two skeletons, and two hunch-backed figures, eyes gleamining beneath their cowls. (Something's squirming.)
Zen: "Don't make me make you come along"
TheTale: "Oi, oi, goin' exploring, are we?" Says one of the skeleton. It holds the head of a statue in its palm - a swordbelt hangs at its waist.
Zen: "Pretty much, it's what you do with holes"
Zen: "Found anything interesting down here?"
Eris‘ starts climbing down a minute or two later when Zen doesn’t start screaming bloody murder.
Charlotte follows soon after as well.
TheTale: "Good fodder!" Says the other skeleton.
TheTale: "Blood alive," says the first, looking up. "Whole PACK of you, isn't there?"
Zen: "Small group"
TheTale: "Your guard dog's dead, did you figure that yet?"
Eris: "Oh My Goddess,"
TheTale: "Should start… fighting back, shouldn't we, likely?"
Eris: "Did we just find a pack of pirate skeletons…?"
TheTale: "Proper patriotic to, I think…"
Zen: "Well, why would you?"
Zen: "I mean we're looking around"
Linlea: "We literally just fought our way up the mana tree. Please don't waste both of our times."
Linlea glances at Eris. "(How do arrows even work on skeletons? I never understood that.)"
Eris: "Why would a pack of pirate skeletons be in a fissure underground though…?"
TheTale: "You bleed, girlie, we don't. So…"
TheTale: "Cause it's out of the bloody sun! Oi, y'idiots, are we gonna fight or what?"
Zen: "Neither did the last few things we killed, to be honest. But no, we're not"
TheTale: A hooded figure in the back mutteres something into its sleeve.
Linlea whines. "I'd really rather not."
Eris: "Magic, obviously." Eris then reaches into Linlea's pcket, pulls out her PDA and starts fiddling with it before pointing a camera at the monsters.
Eris: "Hold on hold on."
Linlea: "Oh. That's right we should take a picture!"
Eris: "Say something threatening real quick!"
Linlea: "Can you guys pose for us?"
Maria just kinda stares at the two foreigners. Really?
Eris: "This is definitely the dumbest thing we've come across since we got here, I need a momento!"
Charlotte blinks. "What are you two doing?"
TheTale: They pose by drawing their swords and charging, leaping over the rocks, yelling.
Linlea glances at Maria. "At the end of the day, we're still tourists!"
TheTale: It's… actually a really good shot!

TheTale: Though the earth has shifted a bit - it seems like there was a cave-in behind it -
TheTale: Eris eventually manages to pick her way through to the [Wreck of the Svengelion] -
Zen shakes his head, mostly to clear it honestly, and looks at the remains of the monsters… Did they look more like independant ne’er-do-wells or actual military, oddness aside?
TheTale: A ship much like the Narthelius but smaller, sharper, a lightning-blade of a ship…
TheTale: Embedded in the earth.
TheTale: Zen: There's lots of monsters that incorporate near the Lost Quarter and in the Glozenfeld to cause trouble, fighting as crusaders and irregulars.
TheTale: Those were some of them, looks like.
Eris: "Oho!"
Eris: "I found it~"
Zen sighs "Well, at least it's not an assault force" he looks at Eris, and looks at the path she's made "Aha… So you've found it"
Eris: "Looks like it just… got swallowed up whole? How odd! I wonder if it's our good friend the demon's doing."
Charlotte: "She's good at this kind of thing."
Zen: "Given the scar on the earth it may also have simply dug itself in on a crash, we haven't seen the extent of the damage"
Eris‘ starts looking for a person sized hole along side it, or a doorway or some kind.
Zen: "But i’m not discarding anything"
TheTale: The steel door inside of it is fused shut.
TheTale: But there's enough of a hinge to hammer it off.
Zen: "Just don't cause a cave-in on the way, Eris
Eris‘ is bizzarely strong outside of combat, anyway. Hammer up, hammer down. Wham!
Eris: "The walls seem stable!"
Linlea: "Think we can get in?"
Eris` eventually works the door off, tosses it too the side, then gestures inside the ship. "But of course!"
TheTale: She’s pretty strong in-combat, too!
TheTale: Inside…
TheTale: A cramped, crooked passage leads to the command deck.
TheTale: The sound of breathing.
TheTale: It's dark.
Eris: "…Is someone still alive in here?"
Linlea: "Hellooooooo? Anyone there?"
Linlea: "We're here to save you!"
TheTale: "Save the ship, I hope."
TheTale: "Hahaha… c'mon in."
TheTale: "The lights don't work, though."
Zen: "I think it's far too long to have surviv- Oh, hey"
Zen looks around, does anyone have a light source? Either this sound fishy so he's the first one heading deeper, cautiously
Eris‘ is probably glowly enough for them to navigate through the passageways, at least. She’s moving towards the voice.
Eris: "Well see what we can do about the ship, but I don't think any of us are engineers."
TheTale: "An oversight, for a rescue mission…"
Eris: "You wouldn't happen to be… Reonold Cimer-Dupont, would you?"
TheTale: On the command deck, the shattered front window has a marvelous view of a wall of solid rock.
Maria: "Captain Cimer-Dupont."
TheTale: Seated in the captain's chair is…
TheTale: …The Captain.
Eris: "Haha, honestly we're just… exploring to kill time? Everyone at the palace thought you were dead."
TheTale: "In a sense."
Linlea: "So who wants to break the news to the other person?"
TheTale: He laughs, too. Spinning around in the chair.
TheTale: His skin is a bluish color. His eyes are solid, gleaming white.
TheTale: "They're not wrong."
Eris: "Ugh."
Maria glances at Eris. That certainly isn't normal.
Charlotte: "Oh dear."
Eris: "Did you get demonized too?"
Linlea: "Or is that what happens when a monster migrates to a human body?"
TheTale: "Demons? Fiends, as in? No, no, can't stand them-"
TheTale: "Yes, that's exactly it."
Zen: "Oh, I see"
TheTale: "I'm one of the undead."
Eris: "Not quite - oh."
Maria: "Well, that's no good."
Linlea: "So… we have to force the monster out, THEN revive the guy at the fountain? Aw man."
TheTale: "What's this?"
Linlea: "Can't we just have a monster guard the queen?"
Zen: "Huhn? I'm surprised the captain let you take his body"
Linlea: "You want to guard the queen?"
Zen: "Did you know him beforehand?"
Eris‘ gives Linlea a level stare.
TheTale: He smiles at Zen. "No. But…"
Maria: "The captain may not have had a choice if he was dead."
TheTale: "We both have something important to accomplish."
Charlotte: "Are you the Captain or just something inhabiting his body?"
Zen: "And what is it?"
TheTale: "So, we’re… I'm working together on it."
TheTale: The Captain points upwards towards the sky.
TheTale: "The heroes of legend…"
TheTale: "…Have to ride to the final confrontation born by a holy dragon."
TheTale: "But, this world of ours… no dragons."
TheTale: He staggers to his feet, walking up along a steep incline to put his hand on the wall of the Svengelion.
TheTale: "This, however, is a decent imitation. The Svengelion."
Eris‘ considers, keeps her mouth shut and lets the Captain tell his tale.
TheTale: "Birthed too early, it can’t safely fly in a time of war."
Linlea: "Wait. Are you serious? She doesn't have any dragons this time around?" She doesn't keep her mouth shut though.
Eris‘ reaches up and places a single finger on Linlea’s lips.
TheTale: "But I, its captain, wished to see it fly again."
TheTale: "And I, its guardian, knew I had to watch over it until the time was right."
TheTale: "…So, we came to an agreement."
Zen closes his eyes, thinking. "So the two of you decided to stick around until someone could fix it and take it out of here"
Zen: "Arguably, someone that'd would wind up having to fight you, if I got this guardian thing right"
TheTale: The Captain shrugs.
TheTale: "No, no, if it's for the right cause, no need."
TheTale: "Can't have people running off with this thing just to win a war, though."
Zen: "Ah, okay"
Eris: "As it happens,"
Eris: "We've sort of been conned into putting a stop to the war…?"
Zen: "To be honest we're trying to stop a demon that's trying to destroy everyone in a very slow and painful way"
TheTale: The Captain counts on his fingers.
TheTale: "Yes, that's about what I'd expect."
Maria: "And trying to stop the war so it doesn't just resume after that thing's dead."
TheTale: "And you need the ship to pierce its fortress, I'd imagine?"
Eris: "I uh."
Zen: "Eventually, I guess. I wouldn't deny any help"
Eris: "I'm actually under the impression that D2 lives under the mana tree, not in the sky…?"
Charlotte: "Maybe? We don't know a way under the Mana Tree right now."
Eris: "Though admittedly there's no confirmation on that."
Zen: "But we're still a fair ways from that- But yes, if this ship can dig"
Linlea: "I was pretty sure they said below the mana tree."
Eris: "She could very well be camped out in a satellite!"
Zen: "Well, we went up it and it wasn't there"
TheTale: The Captain looks out the window.
Eris: "…That would be pretty funny."
TheTale: "It can't dig… successfully, no."
Linlea: "Is there really a fortress up in the sky?"
Zen: "Although"
Linlea: "You're the first person to mention that and we didn't really see anything at the top of the mana tree."
Zen: "We do know someone who's either a great engineer or knows one"
TheTale: "I mean, we expected there to be one, at one point."
Eris: "I'm sort of curious about the story about sky fortresses and legendary heroes."
Zen: "Maybe he could fit a drill in the ship"
Zen: "But that's just me being silly"
TheTale: "A great evil, and legendary heroes. They're forces in opposition. In history, when one arises, the other will too, to drive it back."
TheTale: "In order to escape the cycle, the evil seeks to create… a monument to itself, a fortress."
TheTale: "To take what was thought and dream and make it solid."
TheTale: "And there it seethes, unnapproachable, ready to remake the world."
Eris: "Hmm."
Linlea: "You know. If the mana tree unroots itself and turns into a flying fortress that would be an easy way to get to the bottom at least."
Linlea: "We can dream, right?"
Eris: "Yeah that sounds more-or-less like D2, I guess."
Charlotte: "Maybe we need to defeat his other minions before this'll happen?"
TheTale: "So, the legendary heroes will need to call on assistance from the four corners of the world, to reach the evil and strike it down."
Zen: "Sounds a lot like the band girl, yes… Hrm"
Zen: "For one, getting everyone to cooperate and be friendly is one way to directly oppse her"
TheTale: A smile and bright white eyes. "Well, if this sort of thing isn't happening yet, that's all good."
TheTale: "Until then, the Svengelion lies, sleeping."
Eris‘ crosses her arms over her chest.
Eris: "Oh, no. That’s the thing, it seems like it's kicking into gear now."
Eris: "We've even got a deadline until the world is destroyed! Seven more days."
TheTale: "Hell!"
Zen: "Yes, just like that"
Eris: "Mmhm."
Eris: "As it happens though,"
Eris: "We're also sort of consultants for the Queen."
TheTale: "She's well, I trust?"
Zen: "For now, at least"
Eris: "Aye. And she's looking for someone that *isn't* a demon puppet to be her new Captain of the Guard, so that we can kill the demon that took over her old one."
Maria: "Still waiting on the king's revival, however."
Linlea: "The big evil kind of has his claws in her right now as the captain of the guard."
Eris: "You - or well, the human at least - were one of the top three recommendations, provided we could find you."
Linlea: "So I wouldn't say well."
TheTale: "Well, you have found me."
Zen: "We could at least bring up the possibility to the Queen"
Eris: "We've got another prospect lined up if you'd rather not, but. It would probably help everyone out if you came back to the Palace with us. Worst comes to worst you can put in a request to pull the ship out and start repairs, now that we have its location."
TheTale: "There's a minor social faux pas involved with that, that I trust you follow."
Eris: "Well. We're also trying to stop the war peacefully? So the two of you working together might be good as a sort of proof of concept?"
Eris: "Or we could put the monster into some sort of cool fiend or statue or whatever it is you like and then revive the human. I'm not particularly picky."
TheTale: "Arguably. But I might also end up perforated."
Eris: "Or from the area, so I don't care about faux pases."
TheTale: "I was engaging in playful understatement, miss."
Zen: "Well"
Eris‘ blinks, shakes her head, laughs.
Eris: "Sorry I’ve been dealing with a lot of… fussy people the past few days!"
TheTale: "Take one of the others. A captain goes down with his ship, you know."
Eris: "I do believe you said the captain died."
Eris‘ smiles.
TheTale: "I did, yes. And I did die."
Zen: "We got other candidates in mind already, thankfully"
Eris: "Sounds like you’ve fufilled your duty then…?"
TheTale: The Captain paces the command deck.
TheTale: "I'm concerned with higher matters. It's a demon, isn't it? Slay it! Are you heroes of legend or not?"
Eris: "We're working on it!"
Eris: "But also attempting to not pissed the Queen off in the process as she's currently feeding the group of refuges we're travelling with."
Linlea: "The entire city guard of Prospero will be sicced on us to protect the demon if we try to slay it without finding a replacement first."
Linlea: "Heroism has its limits."
Zen: "It is a somewhat long and convoluted process that involves a long and arduos quest like in every story"
Eris: "And you know how scarce food is here."
Maria: "The current guard captain is one of the demon's forces."
Maria: "We're working on taking down his external agents first."
TheTale: "Ah, yes. It does."
TheTale: "Well…" The Captain sighs.
TheTale: "As little as I look forward to explaining how a monster can pledge himself to the protection of the crown…"
TheTale: "I'll happily serve that duty in order to protect the world."
TheTale: "ifyoucan'tfindanyonebetter."
Eris: "The other canidate we're working on is, undoubtedly,"
Eris: "The much funnier option anyway."
Zen: "Consider yourself plan C. Plan A's much more likely anyway"
Eris: "But I think you coming back to the Palace would do a lot of good towards peace, even if you don't take the job."
Maria: "My aunt Plenes being Plan A, and Leves Chime being Plan B I guess. Know anything about them?"
Maria: "Plenes Altsie, that is."
TheTale: "Plenes would've been captain of the guard when I was around. Good girl. Absolute firebrand."
TheTale: "…Was hoping she'd go far, but if she's a candidate and not… ah, well."
Maria: "Wrong place at the wrong time, it sounds like."
Maria: "Much like most. Just it's usually monsters, not a conspiracy theory."
TheTale: "As for Leves Chime, we called her the Dreadnought. A dyed in the wool patriot, and an ogre-killer of the classic school."
Eris: "Oh."
Eris: "Oooh."
Eris: "Hahah. Is she the one that killed and captured Kline?"
TheTale: "No, in fact. But she killed the knight who did."
Eris: "Huh! That sounds like a story worth telling."
TheTale: "Sir Toron d'Eglys. Captured Kline - and many others - before retiring."
TheTale: "He was fond of her, in a strange, spiteful way."
TheTale: "I think they both hated humanity about the same amount."
TheTale: "He killed me - and most of the other prisoners - quickly. But Kline, he kept around. Argued with the Court as to why she should be kept."
TheTale: "There was… something there, between them. Not love. Just…" The Captain trails off.
Zen: "Something of a dark friendship, I imagine"
Zen chuckles "Some things make more sense now I guess"
Zen: "Why she hates Leves so much"
TheTale: "Chime took offense to it. She was right to, I think."
TheTale: "So, she slayed Toron, and offered to release Kline…"
TheTale: "…But Kline refused."
TheTale: "Hahaha… and that's about where this monster's knowledge of human society ends."
Eris: "Hahah."
Eris: "Sounds like you're plan B and not C after all!"
Eris: "For the record: Plenes was framed for an assassination attempt on the Queen. She's plan A."
Eris: "Humans are so interesting!"
TheTale: "Hard to imagine a motive."
Zen: "Well, she was proven innocent post-mortem"
Zen: "IT's just the case of getting her up the line"
TheTale: "Ah, well. Fortune smile on you for that one."
Maria: "I don't think 'proven innocent' is the right term yet, since it hasn't been argued for yet."
TheTale: "I just partnered with a monster. Much faster."
Eris: "Mmhm."
Maria: "Certainly skips all of the bureaucracy."
TheTale: "Certainly."
Linlea frowns. "This world gives me a headache."
TheTale: "Well, shall I just wait to hear the good news about Plan A, or go strolling to my death ASAP?"
Zen: "I suppose we better wait"
Zen: "Less chance of problems as-is"
TheTale: "I'm practically specialized for it."
Eris: "If you come with us now we can guarentee your safety, and it'll be much easier to explain you to the people we send about the ship, of course."
TheTale: "Can you? Well,"
Linlea: "You going to leave him with the caravan?"
TheTale: "I'll come along, then."
Eris: "I imagine it'll be much more difficult to explain to a human salvage team that you're not a danger if you're lurking here alone, after all."
TheTale: "This old body can use a spot of sun, I suspect."
TheTale: The Captain walks out.
Eris: "Hm? No I planned to bring him with us to the Palace to explain things!" Eris heads out.
Linlea: "Well, yeah. I mean AFTER that. How are we going to guarantee his safety?"
Eris: "That's where the explaining comes into play, dear."
Linlea: "If you think convincing the queen is going to make every monster hater in the city just let him walk around you're going to have to ask Maria to have a nice long talk to you about how life really works."
Eris: "He's still human, too!"
Zen: "It'd help if Eris had a talk with someone who know how life works, though"
Maria: "You can try playing it off as a condition from him staying underground so long, but I doubt that will fly."
Eris‘ waves dismissively. "We’ll play it by ear but the caravan's a valid option in any case."
Eris: "The more pressing concern is not dying upon entry, which we can certain take care of."
TheTale: The Captain and you climb out, together, back into the Lost Quarter.
TheTale: Somewhere, through the haze, is a little bit of sunshine.
