Gmm25

The small ghost town lies behind you, but not yet very far. Having set out in the morning, after the great mess at night, you left behind Harriet to make a great warming system for the small town as you head towards the dried riverbank, what should hopefully lead you to the ancient temple. Why follow after a temple, however? For you have heard that should you find a proper place to pray, you may find the one you seek, Glacies, leader of the ghouls, known as the Icy Maiden
Serenity‘ is more curious in the ruins than anything else, to be honest.
Except a small problem, a tiny lack of prescience, has be fallen the party. You barely made two hundred meters when the car stops completely- It appears that the battery has run completely dry, somehow. You certainly should have noticed it was about to run out before you left, it certainly would have been more convenient
Serenity: "…"
JayM: At the very least, the time lost realizing this dreadful mistake, and the subsequent time spent fixing it, does give time for some wonderful news to arrive: The construction of the heater device went by much faster than expected, on account of the old mining town having old, but still useable, ragnite transport plumbing used to transport what was mined that could be repurposed almost without change in order to install the heater
JayM: So you spot in the distance Harriet… Walking
JayM: Because nobody there had any means of transport
Harriet waves, in the distance!
Amal: "Oh, huh. Okay, that’s easier. For me, at least! HI HARRIET WE MISSED YOU! ALSO THE CAR IS SAD!"
Hughbert waves back! "What sort of sustenance does our battery require?"
JayM: You have spares, you just need time to replace with one
Harriet: "HEEEY!" She yells, when she gets into yelling distance: "GIVE HER ANOTHER BATTERY, THERE'S ONE IN THE BACK!"
Harriet: "BEHIND THE WRENCHES AND THE SPARE PIPING, OFF TO THE SIDE! IT'S KINDA HIDDEN BACK THERE!"
Serenity‘ almost definitely is making Anton replace it already. Because really, he should have known this was going to happen.
Hughbert flips open that trunk. He might not know much about how to replace it, but by now, he’s picked up what the most problematic parts look like. He holds up a heavy black box- "I believe I'd best leave this to someone with more experience handling this repair."
Harriet jogs up the rest of the way, one hand grasping the ECC's strap so it doesn't bounce around too much. "Phew… so the battery really did wear down, did it? I forgot all about it until I was finishing up, I thought I'd better run out just in case you guys got stranded. The trunk's kind of a mess…"
Serenity: "You literally just unhook it, lift it up, replace it, hook it back up. Not complicated in the slightest."
Amal probably started to do it if Anton was too scared or something.
It isn't difficult to replace the battery, and soon enough you can drive again. It doesn't takes much longer until you finally see the riverbank…
It is an understatement to call this a riverbank, however. This looks like was a giant lake instead, wherein you could fit a small town inside… Except if you look to the right and to the left you come to realize it truly must have been a river, it stretches off in the horizon to both sides. It makes you wonder how such a monstrous river could have dried up
Anton scratches his head. "Y'know, I'm pretty sure I've told you how this works already." He complains to Serenity. "There existed a world where the battery did die and a world where it didn't. I wasn't sure what one we'd end up on. It's when we want to find our way out of an impossible situation that I really shine."
Harriet slips into the car alongside everyone else! Regales them with tales of how much of a genius she was back there. And then they come to the river! "… wow, that's pretty depressing. There a dam nearby or something?"
Anton: "The battery breaking down though in the long run had no impact on the world line since we still end up at the same destination regardless of whether or not it happened. These kinds of events I gloss over because I'd be stopping you every five minutes." He smiles.
Serenity: "Right. Which means you get to do the heavy lifting, since it ultimately doesn't matter."
Anton glances over at Hughbert. "Speaking of impacts on worldlines, though. Does anyone want spoilers~?"
Harriet: "Oh yeah, absolutely. Surprises suck in our line of work."
Hughbert: "By all means, the more detailed the better."
Anton: "We're going to be fighting a rather nasty ghoul sometime today. I can't give you much info besides the fact that their rifle is made entirely out of ice and the battlefield was likely frozen by them too. They seemed like they were having a mental breakdown."
Amal: "Yikes! Well, I hope we can help."
Harriet: "Oh. Well, I'm sure one of you can handle breakdowns."
Serenity: "So… what you're saying is the lady we're lookin'g for is out of her gourd. Nice."
Anton nods to Serenity. "I can't say for sure it's her, but I was thinking the same thing."
Hughbert: "Sounds like negotiation is off the table. Wouldn't providing a source of sufficient warmth be enough to make the most feral ghoul calm down?"
Serenity: "Who else would it be way the hell out here…?"
Hughbert: "Perhaps the reason she's 'way the hell out here'."
Anton shakes his head at Serenity. "I'm just saying! Making assumptions is very dangerous in my line of work. I couldn't confirm the target~."
Chugging along by the edge of the river, it looks rather desolate down there. Travelling down the river, of course, would be a terrible idea, the car isn't built to go up or down the slope at all. However, as you travel you come across a most… Curious sight. Someone at the edge of the river, carrying a quite large backpack that looks more like a giant box. In fact the backpack is in the ground, there's instruments spread around on the ground, also a makeshift chemical lab has been erected
Amal: "What the…"
Harriet: "Oooh, that's a cool setup."
Hughbert: "How peculiar. Let's pull over, I would like to question that fellow."
Harriet: "Me too!"
Serenity: "Okay."
Anton: "Who else would be way the hell out here, indeed~." He grins.
You come closer and realize the person's apparently pretty ragged, they've likely seen a lot of action recently. And then you notice something else- They've got a lot of bananas with them?! More than just what you'd take as travel snacks
Hughbert: "We should try to keep it brief, Harriet. Accounting for a battle and perhaps a runin with an Oracle or two, we don't have much time to spare to keep an on-time pace."
Harriet: "Aww… okay, fine."
Once you finally stop by they look over at you- And you recognize him! You've met him before, but in a different country and actually leading a construction crew: It's Flake
Anton calls out. "A lollipop for a banana, friend?"
He looks at you as you stop by "Oh… Hey there, been a while, huhn?" he sounds tired, incredibly so
Flake: "Oh, i'm sorry, need those for work"
Hughbert waves! "What sort of work? I don't see any purple ragnite, doesn't seem to be the usual test we use these for…"
Harriet: "… hey, I know you! You're, uh… uhhh… Fluke? No, Flake! Hi Flake!"
He chuckles "I'm…" he waves over to the bananas "I need to make something for Glaci"
Harriet: "What're you making?"
Flake: "I had a feeling that I needed to be here, right now… But I didn't finish this project I promised her I'd finish"
Flake: "Hrm… You know that really weird taste bananas have when they're green? I'm trying to extract that out of the fruit"
Flake: "It has… It has weird effects on monsters, it makes them dizzy, sleepy"
Hughbert: "Assuming Glaci is short for what I believe it is, we honestly lack a reason to not help you out here. We're looking for her, too."
Harriet: "Yeah, you look like you could use a hand."
Flake: "It… It works on ghouls too. It can't stop them when they're going crazy, but it can mitigate it, and prevent it"
Harriet: "Come on, it'd be great to work with you!"
He nods "Oh, please? I managed to get t he process almost done, I can extract the essence but I can't quite do it reliably yet
Harriet goes on over and crouches down. "Okay, let's have a look…"
Anton scratches his head. "You can do all of that… with a banana?"
Flake: "I have no idea why it works. But it does, so"
Serenity: "So uh just for my own curiosity… how in the hell does some kid from the local Terchuan militia wind up doing odd jobs or Orsisian ghouls…?"
[OOC] Serenity: for^
Flake: "Oh, well. Mine and Glaci's families were friends, our mothers specifically, they were travelling traders, often did the same route"
Serenity: "I see."
Hughbert: "Hmm… Wait. If it's produced while the fruit is ripe, and slowly decays after it's removed from the tree, wouldn't it be more efficient to look into the origin tree? The tree is what produces the compound you're looking for, after all."
Flake: "They become close friends, hah… They even named their children in a similar way, they loved the snow"
The portable chem lab is… Simple, but built for a purpose. Thankfully nothing foul is under the awkward fume hood because you need to put your head in there to check on some of the farther vials. It actually smells quite sweet and appetizing
Flake: "Yeah, I considered. But it seems like the production happens on the fruit while it's growing, I believe it's a way to prevent the fruit from being consumed before the seeds are ready. So the taste remains only as long as the seeds are yet unformed"
Flake: "Which is why i've brought a few frozen samples and have been attempting to develop a sufficiently fast method to convert the fruit into extract. Harvest early, process, bam"
Flake: "Turns out the remains are, also, quite tasty sweets if not a little awkward to consume. But right now i'm losing over half of the extract during the heating process to separate it from the rest of the fruit's juices"
Amal: "Hmmm."
Serenity: "That's not too bad for using a shitty portable lab instead of decent equipment."
Amal: "Yeah, this is pretty impressive stuff…"
Flake: "It wasn't… A short process to get here, actually. Been on this project for over six months as it is… I just had to come here, but I couldn't also just drop the last step of the project so"
Hughbert: "So it's a matter of narrowing down how to avoid breaking down the extract with the rest. Let us see your notes, we might be able to see something."
Flake: "I figured the portable lab would do"
Serenity‘ stares at Flake for a few seconds, before shrugging.
Flake produces a notebook, it’s pretty well done honestly, the notebook is pretty big and almost completely filled (there's also a second one filled). The process is kind of simple, sort of: First the fruit must be peeled (optional, but faciliates later step by having less excess material), then the fruit's juiced in some manner or turned to paste. Afterwards, it's passed through eight different filters to separate the different components, first two filters must be passed through using pressure because the juice/paste is too thick.
Harriet flicks through the notebooks, scanning his notes. "Yeah… okay… that makes sense…"
The final step is using heat to separate the resulting liquid into the desired extract and other additional liquids. Research shows the additional liquids have a different boiling temperature than the extract, so they should boil first. The temperature range, however, is too narrow and the boiler definitely imprecise
Serenity‘ takes a seat, before picking a banana up and spinning it in her hands. "Any particular reason you’re working on it out here in the middle or no where though isntead of like… literally anywhere else?"
Flake: "Ah… My legs gave out, and i'm too nervous to actually just… Stop doing something"
Serenity: "You're a weird guy."
Flake: "This is going nowhere at all, but i'm not… Not wherever it is i'm supposed to be at I guess, but I can't quite keep going"
Hughbert: "Hmm… So they have varying boiling points, but that's proving problematic to target. What about density? Surely we could make a centrifuge out of these tools…"
Flake: "Say is there some place of, I don't know, importance here"
Serenity: "Depends how you define importance."
Serenity: "There's some ruins from the old religion nearby, which is where we were headed."
Amal chuckles a bit. "This is where you needed to be in order to run into us!"
Harriet: "What you need here is a way to catch the extract while leaving the chaff. I wonder if you could push an electrical current through them, have the heat bind the particles, and then trap them… or… yeah, a centrifuge could work, I guess."
Flake: "Oh… I haven't thought of that. They do have different densities even if both are light, initially I let it rest but it'd take five or six days to separate fully"
Flake: "Hrm… I don't have a centrifuge but we could probably make something…"
Hughbert: "Perhaps an electric current would speed up the separation process, though." Hughbert nods to Harriet.
He stops a moment to look at Serenity "Good enough… I honestly have no idea where i'm going i've just been following the Serpens star… I know it's weird but it's never failed me before"
Serenity: "It's less weird than you think."
Flake: "Electrolyzing the solution could also be helpful, I haven't even considered that but if it can break down the chaff without breaking down the extract, it'd work"
Amal: "(Providence.)"
Harriet: "Oh, sure, I can whip a centrifuge up for you. Oh, speaking of whipping things up," Harriet grabs one of the grenades from her bandolier and shows it off. "Those blueprints really helped make these cryogrenades work!"
Harriet: "And yeah, electricity solves so many problems."
Flake blinks "Oh, those blueprints! Ahaha, yeah, I remember giving you them some time ago"
Flake chuckles "I wonder if i'll get to see what you built out of them, couldn't get it working correctly on my end, not quite a physics guy"
Hughbert takes a good look at what he's got laid out in the lab. "I'm interested in trying both methods out to see which is most efficient. Hmm, would this vessel be suitable for holding the electrified solution…?"
Harriet clips it back. "I'll hand one over once we're done here and you can have a look. Now, let's see… yeah, that'd work just fine, it'll hold it."
Anton seems to be staying back for the most part. He'll help with something if he's asked, but until then he seems to be zoning out again.
Hughbert: "And this should be able to control the speed of the rotation for the centrifuge… You don't need this right now, right Flake? We should have this ready in no time."
It isn't much longer until Team Tech manages to whip up the centrifuge. Takes approximately seven tries to get it right, from the electrolyzing process pre-centrifuge to the speed of the centrifuge itself. Turns out the answer itself is simpleto produce, he just haven't thought of it yet.
Hughbert dispenses a round of celebratory high-fives following the successful test.
Harriet much appreciates Hughbert's help! It's interesting to hear his additions. And, of course, she engages in the celebratory high-five.
As a reward of a job well done, and a little bit to the enjoyment of those who just watched, Flake then picks up the leftovers of the process and mixes it up, using a small frypan and a flame he fries it- It forms something that looks like a shell of solid sugar with a soft yellowish center. He offers it up "No waste in the process too, this is kind of good" , and to those who do dare to try it: It tastes like fried banana coated in caramelized sugar, which is amazing.
Harriet shrugs and gives it a go. "Huh… huuuh. This is actually really good!"
Serenity: "Too sweet."
Flake: "It's pretty sweet yes" he stands up slowly, and you realize his pants are pretty torn up "Ah… Where was that temple again, though? With this done, I really should get moving"
Anton is never one to turn down free food!
Serenity‘ gestures with the banana in her hand. "Down that way a bit."
Amal -absolutely- noms on their share, holy crap. So good.
Harriet: "Hey, we’re going that way, too, you should ride with us."
Flake nods "Alright" he stretches "Thanks for the assist. Now to- Oh, you are?"
Flake: "I'd love to, best lead i've got on whatever I gotta do right now"
Hughbert: "Quite the refreshing snack. I am sure you would be unsurprised to hear that most road-side stops have been notably less pleasant. This is a welcome change."
Flake sighs "This place is horrifying"
Hughbert: "Ah, yes, once you're ready, we should have room in the trunk to store your lab kit, too. You won't need to haul it around for a while."
Serenity: "Definitely would rate is lower than Terchuan."
Harriet: "Yeah, this place is a real fixer-upper."
Flake: "I mean, look. I'm an Integrator, I work with machines and nature, like… I help build and maintain farming tools, infrastructure for hunter reserves, those things… This place… Argh"
Serenity: "Although on the upside they don't have people saying having a roof is more important than drink water that isn't poison so upsides and downsides all around really."
Flake: "Makes me want to break the head of whoever let it get this far" he looks at Serenity‘ "Never said we had the smartest people around"
Serenity` tosses the banana into the air as she gets up, then catches it before heading back to the car.
Amal: "Hehe, it’s okay, that's our job."
And then, off you go again, with a bit more people and load on the car. It doesn't takes much longer until you see the temple, or what remains of it, in the distance. And soon enough you park as close as you can safely get the car- Because the temple's actually at the bottom of the riverbed
From here, however, you see other things of interest. There are the marks of the remains of a city here, but they are very subtle. The small patterns of stones in the ground, the way grass has grown in some places, the pattern of lichen on the ground.
Harriet: "Well, guess we're walking from here, the car's never gonna be able to make the trip back up the riverside."
Serenity: "Are we like 100% sure this is a lake and river bed and not like… a crater and canyon by the way?"
Those of you who studied architeture or history could tell, there as once a city built atop the river that once existed. And for no good reason, the temple was built at the bottom of the river itself. The temple is… It's ancient for certain, and has a similar architeture to the Grand Chapel's older parts (did you know they actually built on top of parts of the older chapel?).
Serenity‘ scrunches up her head, then tilts it to one side as she starts heading for what’s left of the building. After a couple of minutes she shakes her head.
Anton quietly chews on a lollipop.
Amal: "This place is weiiiird."
Harriet: "So like… this would've been underwater at one point, right? Why build something underneath the water?"
JayM: It's a bit of a treacherous way down, but suffer nothing else than muddy boots. The temple, at this distance, looks like it's not even a temple on it's own, just a couple of inner chambers of a temple that remain. The stone looks green and green with lichen and the air feels… Strange here. Like a very heavy mist hangs in the air
The doors are heavy and made of metal, it's impure iron and a pain to move, very heavy
Harriet: "Ugh, they're stuck… hey, Anton! You can handle these, right?"
Hughbert: "This is already proving to be quite educational. Iron doors underwater have somehow not rusted themselves into oblivion."
Serenity: "I mean, s'why I was wondering if maybe it wasn't really a lake. People living in a canyon would be weird but not unheard of. The bottom of a lake though..?"
Serenity: "But I'm definitely seeing more signs of water the further we go, so." She shrugs.
Anton chuckles. "I was about to mention the same thing, Hugh." He makes his way towards the door and grabs on to it. Then he starts up his force boots and pulls back. (Or pushes I'm not sure what way it opens.)
Hughbert kicks his force gear into action to use his blade as leverage to pry the doors apart a little bit.
Serenity: "Okay."
Serenity: "Stop doing that moron you're gunna hurt yourself or burn out your gear."
Serenity‘ waits for Anton to stop and move back a little bit, before gesturing her fingers towards a small indentation in the wall nearby the door, eyes glowing slightly.
The door suddenly starts moving on it’s own, it makes a terrifying sound of metal grinding on stone as it opens up slowly. It only opens up halfway through, but that's enough for someone to walk through
Serenity‘ takes a number of deep breaths after leaning over and resting her hands on her knees.
Anton whistles before going through the door. "Nice work. Adventure awaits~."
Hughbert switches his gear back off and, after some post-exertion stretches for safety, scoots inward!
Serenity: "Holy fu - ck. That. Must have been. One of the oldest. Gears. Ever made." Lets out a breath, stands back up. "So AMAZINGLY inefficent good lord."
Harriet: "Hey, good job." Harriet sidles on through! (She has to be careful not to get her ECC caught in the doorway, of course.)
Harriet: "Wait, that was a force gear…?"
The light from outside is not what illuminates most of the inside, however, but there are blue glowing lines in the walls. The lines form all sorts of… Symbols you’ve never seen before. There is nothing like furniture inside but from the arraying of the stonework you can see that this first chamber must have been something like… An auditorium. There is a central raised circle and, from the raised stones that probably were once the foundation of large seats, people would be arranged in a circle around the raised floor
Serenity: "Dead lock, like at the weird mobis strip tower."
Amal: "Maybe it was rusty~!" They grin at Serenity, because THAT WAS REALLY COOL, and peek inside…
Serenity: "So yeah, technically."
Harriet: "Whoa, that's pretty cool."
JayM: … Reminds you a little bit of some of the classrooms in the old churches that were transformed into colleges back home
JayM: Not the best classroom design but sure put some attention on the teacher
Harriet: "This looks like the place where my maths teacher used to hold his lectures. Huh."
Anton: "So uh… not that I don't mind cool places like this, but are we looking for anything in particular?" He scratches his head before giving a sheepish smile.
Amal: "Probably Serenity's gonna do another cool thing."
Serenity: "Not really, I just wanted to look around."
Hughbert: "Looking around is a perfectly reasonable goal." Hughbert looks around.
Serenity: "I mean. This is the first time I've ever heard of anything from the church existing outside of the valley."
Amal: "Yeah, it's pretty amazing…"
Serenity: "Also if I had to guess there's a central prayer chamber or something further in, which is technically where the old guy directed us but eh."
Anton chews at his lip before scuffing his boot along the floor.
There are two doorways leading to siderooms, and those are somewhat more interesting: They have definitely been recently renovated, one of which is used as storage for… Well, looks like material, materials for makeshift structural repair, ammunition, canned food… Icecream?! In fact a lot of icecream, because this room is very, very cold. In fact it is very suddenly cold, it's not as cold just past the door. But this is General Storage to it's best description
JayM: Thankfully, it's pretty well organized so no mixing up food and cleaning supplies, and the weaponry (rifles, old and repaired and re-repaired) is under a lock
Serenity: "What?"
Serenity: "Worried we're going to learn something about the dark hidden history that was removed from the timeline?"
Amal peers at Anton.
Serenity‘ shoves her hands in her coat’s pockets. "Also I guess Glacie is living here?"
Anton chuckles. "Here…? Dunno. I haven't been here before either."
Anton: "You might!" He winks.
Hughbert: "That's the theory that makes the most sense to me. At the very least, she considers it a safehouse."
Harriet goes poking around, and shakes her head once she opens the cold door. "Geez, this is freezing!"
The other room, well, seems like it was once some form of… It must have been a separated section of a library, the shelves are built into the walls, from their stone itself. Here too the glyphs glow although they glow somewhat brighter. In fact at the farther end there is a wall perfectly clean of anything with a very large density of symbols. A desk has been set up in here, there's chairs and there's books in the shelves, newer ones in fact. There's a large map on the table, interestingly, there is a very thin layer of ice in the floor
Hughbert: "Hmm… Do tell, Harriet. Why is it so cold?"
Anton doesn't seem to be doing much 'poking around' himself, though. He has his book open again and he's taking a few notes.
Serenity‘ grabs a book at random and cracks it open.
Hughbert gets a glimmer in his eyes at the sight of the new room. Maintaining a semblance of composure, he struts along to the shelves and starts browsing the books, taking no time at all to settle on his first selection. "Now, what have we got here…"
Amal doesn’t touch any of the books, just skims over those symbols on the wall curiously.
Anton snaps his book shut before glancing at the others in the library. He wanders off to the freezer room.
Serenity: "Haha."
Serenity‘ tosses the book to Harriet.
Harriet: "It’s coming from the floor. Looks like the metal shelves are helping to amplify the cold. Hmm…" Harriet looks around the room, trying to figure out what's going on. "And… there's ice cream here, weirdly? And weapons. And… this looks like architecture shit? And…" Harriet kneels down, hand on a metal shelf, and brings out a device with a little needle which hovers only a little above
Harriet: zero. "I think this is a force gear. The floor, I mean. But it's old, it's got no power at all. If I had to guess, I'd say it's not even an active gear at all. More like… shaped like a gear?"
Harriet leans up, grabs the book, and starts flicking through it.
Amal keeps staring at the symbols, super distracted, and then squints!
Amal: "…dangit, why didn't I pay more attention in class…"
Serenity: "You can definitely tell the church was definitely deeply connected to our city. Kind of half surprised not half surprised it's readable though and not in the same weird code the little black book was."
Serenity: "Uhhh I'm not one hundred percent but if I had to guess I'd say those are PROBABLY old ass trechuan runic symbols?"
Serenity‘ glances over in Flake’s direction for confirmation while nosing through various books.
Amal: "They're super -familiar- I just… don't know how to read any of it. Hmph."
JayM: They do look like, but distinct from, the terchuan runes
Harriet: "Huh. What the hell's a codex doing here?" Harriet gets up, wanders over to the other room. "This looks just like the shit I studied at school."
Serenity: "Almost everything in the books I've poked at is the same. Hence the comment I just made."
JayM: Those books are new, for what's worth
Harriet: "I guess this Glacie's interested in engineering," Harriet shrugs.
Amal snaps his fingers, and then starts laughing a little. "Wow, even now they're already ancient ruins full of weird, almost-indecipherable script. That's amazing."
Flake: "Kind of, she helped me study, even if it was through mail"
Flake: "She… She's not like… Really an engineer, technically, since I don't think she has a degree? But, well, we kind of learned together"
Anton makes his way over to the others. "Hey, Serenity. You mind opening the secret passage downstairs? I can sense someone way down there."
Harriet: "Is the whole library like this…?" Harriet scans the titles of the books.
Serenity: "Huh?"
Serenity‘ tilts her head around, looking for something.
Anton: "There’s a dead lock hidden in the library."
Amal: "Psh, credentialism."
Harriet: "I mean, the main point of engineering is making things. If you can make things which work, you're an engineer."
Hughbert sets aside a book. "Hm. Not what I was hoping for… Where's that lock?" He helps search for the lock.
Flake puts a hand on his chin "I guess you're right, Harriet. We're just a bit hung up on credentials back home I guess"
Harriet: "But these books all look like they're pretty 101… she's never gonna get anywhere with just the basics."
There is nothing that looks obviously like a lock here- Although by the wall with the many glyphs is a single stone block with no glyphs in it. If you look closely, it has the faint trace of a handprint that was once embossed in the stone
Serenity‘ tosses the book in her hands back on the desk before gesturing in that direction.
The floor in front of the wall lowers in steps, forming a stairway down
A rush of sub-zero air comes from the steps as they lower
Anton: "Going to go on a hunch and say the person I mentioned earlier is down here."
Harriet: "Ugh, that’s cold!"
Serenity: "No shit."
Serenity‘ pulls the scrunchy otu of her hair and lets it fall down.
Flake: "Y-yeah… I recognize this… This is pretty much Glaci’s average temperature"
Flake: "Uhn… Well, how about we go down, then?"
Harriet: "Let's do it." Harriet pulls down her goggles and starts heading down.
Serenity: "I don't suppose you brought a handheld heater or something with you, Harriet?"
Serenity‘ trails down after her.
Hughbert scoops up all of the discarded books and places them back in the proper order before following.
Anton: "Bet you’re regretting not getting fire magic now, huh Harriet?" He laughs.
Harriet: "Ohhh yeah, I really wish I had a better heat source than my spot welder. I'll just have to work on one when I get back home."
Anton: "Perhaps after this venture we can convince Hugh to let us budget some resources to acquire warmer clothes." He glances over his shoulder up the stairwell.
As you head further down you wind up in… This looks like it once was… You can't quite figure out, but there's stone desks built from the walls themselves. There's what can best be described as 'raw ragnite lamps' in the walls, they're ancient flasks of ragnite that are glowing a blue tint over the room. As for right now, the desks are being used by some projects: A rifle being repaired, a kind of… small fridge bring constructed from the ground up, there's a kind of glass box with chemical equipment inside and some form of heater force gear being assembled into it
Harriet: "Looks like I'm not the only one thinking of building a heater."
However, you realized that the actual furniture is built entirely of ice. There's tools, such as wrenches and screwdrivers made of translucent ice, the chairs look rather uncomfortable really, and everything is coated in a thin layer of ice as mist hangs in the air. The heater simply could never compete with all that is going on here, but there is condensation in the inside of the glass box instead of mist, so that's a start
There's a door that leads ahead, you hear footsteps and mumbling
Harriet pauses and looks over it briefly. "No, it's never going to work with that configuration. It's just too damn cold down here, you'd need to…" Looks up. "Oh, right." And keeps heading down.
Hughbert: "Any spoilers for what's behind the next door, Anton?"
Anton stretches before making his way to the door and knocking on it. "Knock Knock!"
Serenity‘ rubs at her face.
Amal: "Oh, Anton~."
Anton frowns before clearing his throat and knocking on the door again. "Knock knock!"
You hear more noise of people. You hear noise of- Glass shattering. But no further answers
Anton slumps his shoulders dejected. "Man. I spent a whole minute thinking up the joke, too!"
Serenity: "It’s okay the lights are on but no one's really home, anyway."
Flake looks at Serenity "Wait, what do you mean?"
Flake blinks "Oh, no… Is she having a breakdown?" he stops to think "Crap, crap is this just a light one or did she get on a feedback loop… Oh no if that's it.."
Amal: "What do you do in a situation like that? 'cause, we might need to know…"
Hughbert: "What's the problem, Flake? I need a situation report."
Serenity‘ shrugs. "Considering Anton’s pretty sure we're gunna fight I can only assume it's a bad one? I don't really have a scale for this."
Flake: "Okay, so, ghouls start losing their ability to… Think straight if they lack… Lack energy"
Serenity: "Absolutely not in her right mind though, or even super actively aware of what she's doing."
Flake: "Or if they have too much, they start thinking in excess and… Can't think right"
Anton: "I can sense an overbearing sense of anger on the other side of this door." He glances at Hugh.
Harriet: "Sooo… which one is it? Do we need to give her energy or burn it off?"
[OOC] Anton: *feeling of anger
Serenity: "I mean… Lack of energy would imply she wasn't going to start blasting us when that door opens, plus consider all the ice and shit everywhere… Gunna guess 'too much'."
Flake: "Glaci… Well, she told me there can be this situation that's… That's like an ulcer. She has too much energy and tries to burn it off because she needs to be okay. But she burns off too much and he body just… Just gets more, too much. So trying to get rid of it just makes the situation worse, but trying to add more also just makes it even worse"
Flake: "What they need is… It's something to kind of turn off their minds for a while and let them normalize, like, a sedative or something-"
Anton: "Only one way to find out!" He kicks open the door.
Flake: "Oh, that's right! If you can tire her out- I can get her out of this funk!"
Anton then points his fingers into the room before shouting "Freeze!"
Amal: "Haha, okay, that works. Figured that'd basically be the extent of it!"
Harriet: "We're your new exercise regime."
Hughbert: "Anton, Flake just got to the part of his explanation where he was going to tell us what we needed to know to have a plan and you just- no- argh" Hughbert targets Anton with a very rapid exacerbated rant before charging in.
Serenity: "Because of all the ice, I get it."
Anton winks back at Serenity. "Keep this up and I may actually fall for you."
Anton bursts in through the door "You asked for it" says her voice right as the party enters- The entire room suddenly becomes encased in ice, a prison of ice to keep you here. She jumps down from over the doorway, she's wearing an old fixed and re-fixed military uniform but still looking as proper as it can be, there's two disk-like objects attached to her belt. Her skin is so deeply white it looks blue, her hair as long as her waist, a discolored mix of red natural color and blue dye. Her eyes dart here and there like a cornered beast
Serenity: "Wait."
Serenity: "Are you saying you've been spending the last three months hitting on me without actually …"
Amal giggles.
Harriet: "Wait, he's been hitting on you?"

They keep Serenity busy deflecting them as Glacies points her right hand at her "Get away from here!" and suddenly ice extends forward from her hand forming a giant stalactite that just continues to extend until it strikes straight at Serenity, pinning her against the ground- And it keeps trying to extend into her until it eventually shatters [Congelatio]

First bolt strikes her in the shoulder, it doesn't seems to leave any visible marks. The second blocks bringing up an ice wall- Hughbert strike, however, follows through. Her skin feels… It doesn't feels hard to the slice, in the same way his own protection field doesn't feels hard, just dampens blows. She falls down to one knee "No… NO!"
Glacies puts her right hand down on the ground "I can't let you- There's too much at stake-"
Flake: "That's it- Glaci" she runs in her direction, something in his hand "You gotta-"
Amal: "Hehe, it's okay. We're on your side and we brought your friend!"
Harriet: "Luckily, we're not actually the bad guys here."
Flake tackles her "-Chill out!" and you notice what he's wielding. A fruit. He shoves it right into her mouth as they scatter in the ground for a moment
Hughbert nods. "(I bet Flake wasn't offended by my efforts and dedication to keep the Maiden's attention.)"
They roll and she manages to toss him off of her- She tries to stand up, coughing, but she wobbles "Augh… *cough*" she looks around, looks at the party, looks at Flake "S-seriously…" before passing out
Harriet: "Geez, that's the most resistant I've ever seen anyone be to a nap, and I've known pre-meds."
Amal giggles a little.
Serenity: "Not."
Serenity: "Not even gunna ask."
Flake stands up slowly "It's… Weird yes"
He takes a few deep breaths "She's… Stronger… Last time didn't take an entire armed unit to make her calm down"
Anton makes his way over to Amal and offers a high-five. "That combo was only possible because of you, buddy!"
Amal high-fives Anton!
Serenity‘ taps at the ground curiously with her boot.
Flake looks at her passed out form, looks around "Hrm…" he looks over to a side- The place is a bedroom. He walks over there and with some work breaks free the bed. Even though she is unconscious, the room temperature is still in the negatives, closing on on -20C/-4F because of the cold that radiates from her body. Flake steels his shoulders and picks her up, wincing, and bring her over to the bed setting her down "Ack… She’ll need a few"
Flake: "Uhn, how about you guys leave the cold for a bit? Or wait here I guess. It doesn't usually takes even an hour for her to come back normally… Normally"
Harriet: "You gonna be okay down here?"
Serenity: "Yeah no I'm super done with this room until she can wake up and tell me why the fuck the floor as working pipe lines to the master vein."
Hughbert: "I'll gladly wait upstairs. I have a few holes in my suit to patch up." He salutes and leaves the room.
Flake: "I'm used to this! I mean it's not any less bad but I don't want her to wake up to nobody here"
Harriet: "Yeah, okay, I'll leave you to it. This place is way too cold for just a vest." Harriet waves, and heads on up.
And upstairs you head to, and it's much warmer up here, even if it's ordinarily be cold the raw difference even makes it feel warm.
Amal grins! "I love it!"
Harriet: "So, like… do you name all of your attacks, or…"

Anton crosses his arms before pouting. "You name your inventions!"
[OOC] Hughbert: HP: 487/650, Stored: 68, MP: 650/650, LP: 6/6, SoS: 162,
Hughbert almost forgot to shrug.
Harriet: "Oh, well, yeah, that's a good point."
Serenity‘ shakes her head.
Thankfully, it really isn’t a long wait until they come back up, about half an hour. Glacies comes up stairs with Flake beside her, she looks considerably different dressed as she is right now: She wears a prodigious amount of winter gear, but it is all topped off with a very heavy fuzzy overcoat, a scarf that happens to cover her mouth and a fluffy hat. She definitely looks a little overburdened by the excess of garments, but her presence doesn't makes the room too much colder, bringing it down about one or two degrees at best. Flake's shaking badly, though, but he seems to have acquired a similar overcoat (but no excess of garments)
Glacies: "Good, you're still here… I have to apologize for my earlier actions… I was not quite in my right faculties, as you know, and I hope I have not done anything excessively grave to any of you"
Flake: "I was still more worried about you, you know the kind of stuff they were throwing around"
Amal: "It was fun~!"
Amal: "Hope you're feeling okay?"
Amal: "And- it's nice to finally meet you!"
Amal: "We're the Fatebreakers, and we're here to help!"
Glacies nods "I've heard of you… It's good to have someone willing to help out" she looks at Serenity "Especially someone with… Interesting expertise"
Glacies: "Now, would you rather talk shop here in the auditorium or in the meeting room over a… Hrm… No, unfortunately I do not have anything that isn't served cold, and I doubt you'd want soething cold right now"
Serenity: "You mean another Medium?"
Glacies nods, her voice slightly muffled "I haven't ever met one before… It was so strange, hearing you talk that way"
Serenity: "Aha. I don't think I've ment many that aren't also Oracles either for what it's worth."
Glacies: "I'd love to see what I could learn from you. It… Haven't been easy being me, on a personal level"
Glacies: "But I have yet a lot to do for my people, and those I must defend, but if we have some time, perhaps"
Harriet: "I mean, judging from your library you've already been learning a lot."
Assuming you've eventually found yourselves in the meeting room, Glacies sits down at the table "I've been… Trying. There's not a lot you can learn on your own… Especially when nobody is willing listen either"
Anton: "Who's a medium and an oracle besides Alcor, again?"
Harriet: "I mean, I can try to show you a few engineering things, but you really need more books."
Serenity: "Uhh… There was… someone."
Serenity: "…I kind of want to say Mai is both but I'm not solid on that. Might just be projecting on her desire to make artificial ones. … Which I guess would be kinda weird if she was already naturally one so who knows."
Glacies: "Yeah… There aren't… Many out here. At least many that aren't from the Technician's College either, and the goddess knows you don't get in that place without being backed by a big company"
Glacies: "One of the many ways that are used to control us… Education"
Hughbert: "Speaking of some makeshift engineering, did Flake mention his progress on that extraction process?"
Serenity: "Also you know what's below this place right?"
Glacies: "He did mention!" she looks at him in the eyes "To which I asked why he thought shoving the damn banana in my mouth was better than using the extract, which he had no answer for"
She looks at Serenity "Hrm… Only kind of"
Glacies: "One of the reasons I set up shop in this place is because I know I can draw energy from… Whatever is there"
Serenity: "What do you think it is?"
Hughbert: "I, too, was wondering what advantage was to be gained from that. I shall drop that line of questioning, then…"
Glacies: "It's probably a big ragnite vein. I've… Tried performing the same trick on a place I knew there was ragnite but it was certainly not as easy, though, so I imagine there's more"
Serenity: "Yeah close enough. This is basically just a theory but - I'm pretty sure all of the chaple's were built on top of MASSIVE wells, dug all the way down to a … humongous ragnite vein that transverses the entire world."
Serenity: "Which is where that song is coming from, and why it's so easy for you to hear prayers directed at her, here."
Glacies considers for a moment "Hrm… That's… Quite interesting" Glacies blinks "So you do really hear a song? Huhn…"
Serenity: "Yup."
Serenity: "This is only the second place in the entire world I've ever heard it though."
Serenity: "The other place being the chaple in Marshas."
Glacies: "It's… A bit difficult for me, actually… To recognize what the voice of ragnite is, I mean. I… I can actually hear my own echo, even of my own thoughts. I'm used to it, but makes hearing things difficult"
Glacies: "Hrm… I'd like to visit, see how it is there. This song always calms me down."
Glacies: "Well, when i'm not losing it"
Harriet: "Hopefully the essence helps with that."
Serenity: "Legit surprised you didn't think the vein was the Goddess though. … Actually maybe that would only be a natural assumption for people that grew up in Marshas where some traces of the religion are left. … Huh."
Glacies: "Ahaha, I might call Her name as an epithet but"
Glacies: "There can't be a Goddess in a world that lets this country happen"
Glacies: "Not like I know anything about the religion either other than… This place was important"
Serenity: "Yeah I…. forgot that wasn't really a thing anywhere else."
Anton glances up from his notebook a few times, but for the most part he's just scribbling something down now as the others talk.
Amal: "…it can't be the responsibility of any Goddess to repair the world. We have to do that work ourselves."
Glacies: "If it is, she isn't doing it. If it isn't, she isn't doing it. Either way, we gotta do it"
Glacies: "And on that matter… I imagine my father sent you here didn't he? He probably wants my cooperation… Much as I dislike him, it's just a couple of… Technical matters that are in the way"
Amal: "Right, yeah. Doesn't really matter either way, does it?" They sound weirdly, if slightly, bitter about this. "…anyways, yeah. Although we'd heard about you before we even met him, actually."
Hughbert nods to Flake at Amal's comment.
Flake: "Yeah, they passed by Terchuan… Helped out a lot. This one, Harriet?" he points at her "She managed to create a portable decontamination setup as well as actually make the fixed ones far more efficient"
Flake: "I know they fight hard but damn, if you need some technical help then they got it too"
Glacies: "Really? Because I do need some… Awkward technical help"
Harriet: "Oh man, you do?" Harriet grins. "What's the problem?"
Glacies: "Well… Have you met shamblers before?"
Serenity: "Been there done that."
Glacies: "Well… They're… Unfortunate people, and sadly as much as I wish to protect those unfortunate people they… They're too dangerous to just let roam, often they don't realize the danger they cause"
Serenity: "Village has central heating already."
Harriet: "You're welcome!"
Hughbert: "Someone named Ken helped us when a group of them appeared."
Glacies: "I need… A solution to keeping them contained within select areas where they won't hurt others, but a solution that doesn't hurts in the process"
Glacies: "I realize it looks strange to ask that, and it probably is, but… Still, it's the best way i've found for peaceful living"
Serenity: "Yeah. Already done."
Glacies: "Up to now- Oh, Ken? He's a good guy- Yeah, we ghouls have been able to… Keep them calm, sometimes, because they're sensitive to ragnite. I can command them pretty strongly since i'm a Medium, and other ghouls are… Kind of, but not really, like that. But that's too much work"
Harriet: "The whole town's got heating now. I could rig up another set if you wanted to draw them someplace else, I guess."
Serenity: "Guy said you'd be more receptive if we'd already proven we'd help you out first, so."
Glacies: "Oh? Pre-emptive resolution? Hah, I guess Masharas' prescience strikes again. What was the solution?"
Glacies: "Ah… Heating, that certainly helps us at least, less energy we spend, well, trying not to kill ourselves, less likely to hit a berserk fail state."
Harriet: "Well, turns out some asshole had a big ragnite project going on which was fucking everything up, so I stole the gold ragnite and used a bunch of your old spare parts to rig up a heat transferrence system."
Glacies crosses her arms "Wait… So you ran into a Thumper?"
Serenity: "Briefly."
Glacies: "That was the other problem that needed resolution… There are those… I'll call them weapons, the Thumpers. The one I saw kind of looks like a large pile driver, but it makes this… Maddening noise"
Glacies: "They're weapons developed by Malus to use… Well, to use us, victims of their own drugs, as weapons against those we try to protect"
Glacies: "There's really only two Thumpers proper, they use remote units to bring their effects elsewhere"
Glacies: "I really need those things gone, but I can't get near"
Harriet: "Gross. So where's the other one?"
Hughbert: "Was that one of the two? It sounds to me like we just dismantled a remote unit."
Glacies: "I know one of them is here" she points in the map, it's a bit of distance away "This prototype is being developed by Malus themselves, and one here" she points to another, further in the other direction "This one is being developed by a sole special advisor they have"
Serenity: "Don't worry there's. Absolutely no chance I wouldn't be able to find it again. Coming here seemed more pressing as we destroyed the closer machien and ripped out a bunch of the piping though."
Indeed, none of the points are the village, that was in fact a remote unit you destroyed
Harriet: "Oh, yeah, okay. Well, destroying those things probably won't be that hard."
Glacies: "Careful, they're well guarded"
Amal: "We're kinda planning on cutting a swath through Malus anyways, so I mean."
Hughbert: "If their special advisor is on hand, we can make sure they understand the pain their machine is causing, so that they will cease their research."
Glacies: "Good"
Glacies: "Hrm… Sadly, I don't have much in the way of help that I can give, mostly what I have avaiable is food, or if you need something fixed. With how I saw you fighting I doubt any of my supplies would help"
Glacies: "But if there's something you need, otherwise?"
Serenity: "Mostly just with the whole overthrowing the government thing."
Serenity‘ lets out a yawn while stretching her arms over her head.
Glacies chuckles "Yeah… That’ll be a mess, I promise"
Glacies: "Because the moment the law turns on our 'dear leaders' they will decide to ignore it once and for all"
Glacies: "And then there will be blood"
Hughbert: "There's this woman named Mai that works with Terra Medical… Have you heard of her before?"
Glacies: "The name Mai is unfamiliar, but I do know of Terra Medical… They were involved in the drug that gave birth to us, after all…"
Glacies: "They still offer medical help in many places, everyone knows the price you pay for that isn't in money, and more than a few ghouls have been vanished in the halls of those hospitals"
Harriet: "Yeah, it's a real piece of work."
Glacies: "Poor Theresa, especially… They did something with their body, when I last saw them they were wearing some kind of armor over their left arm… I heard later they tore their arm right off to get that thing away…"
Glacies: "I don't understand"
Hughbert: "She's got her fair share of blood on her hands. If you happen to get a hint on her movements, I would advise doing everything you can to impede her scheming."
Serenity: "They were using them for machine batteries just the other week so I mean… nothing that complicated really, just lots of evil, unempathetic curiosity."
Glacies closes her eyes for a moment, then opens then back up and nods "I'll move to intercept them when I can, then"
Amal: "Ugh…"
Glacies: "Not sure how much that'll help, but everything helps"
Then, she puts a hand on her forehead "Hrm… Okay… I thought I was through it, apparently not… Can… Can we continue this a little later, perhaps, if there's more? The post-crysis headache is going to hit soon, and I need some rest"
Amal: "Mm, yeah. Get some rest!"
Amal: "We can figure out the next steps after we've all had the chance to relax for a bit."
Harriet: "Yeah, we don't want you going nuts again."
Hughbert: "That will be fine."
Glacies nods, then stands "Thank you, then… Make yourselves at home" she then heads back down- Flake helps her out, as she's about to head downstairs she losts stability and wobbles
JayM: Now wasn't that interesting
JayM: I can never ascertain how much of an alpha or omega strike this part iwll be
JayM: I can't make evokers either
JayM: I hope it was fun, though
