just fyi there's a trachen here but it's not the same as trachen out there. seems to mostly be aware of Things Goin' On but doesn't really give a shit about anyone else and mostly just wants to build stuff. I think he challenged us to a craft off, in fact? also is the spirit of salamander. Gallery's a magic museum, heavily guarded.

Re: Accounting For Waste by IcecyleeIcecylee, 14 Sep 2020 05:12

Downhill workshops talk about how there's a competition to build the best ideas, so to speak, and they get the honor of an audience in the gallery and the idea taking hold in Juliet. Trachen's consistently won for the last few months, undefeated. New parts float to shore, guarded by monsters; Trachen usually gets the highest-quality materials.

Usually.

I think a hunting expedition is in order. We win, then we gain access into the gallery for a bit.

this thread was much funnier when it ended with you going 'k'

Re: "Real." by IcecyleeIcecylee, 12 Sep 2020 18:19

I think another way to phrase my point of view, as well as the DJ's, is that we're aware of the differences, the discontinuities between the phenomenal world and the noumenal one.

We only ever perceive the phenomenal world — in terms of your color analogy, the phenomenal world consists of your eyes and the cones in them that perceive color, light waves that reach your eyes and act as visual stimuli to make your brain recognize them as color, the color selector on your computer's pre-installed paint program that says #FFA500, your computer monitor that emits light waves to the best of its ability according to RGB color space, one single "orange" (by your definition) pixel which is actually comprised of three separate but closely-packed lights that emit varying levels of red, green, and blue light signals in accordance with your color selector to seem simply like orange light by the time it reaches your eyes, and so on, because I think you get the idea at this point.

Additionally, the RGB color space is only a subset of the full gamut of visible light, mixing only three set points on the visible color spectrum to form a facsimile of some target color. What you might really want is a spectrometer pointed at something that reflects light with a wavelength somewhere between 590 and 620 nanometers, which we had before computer monitors. And even then, that falls prey to the same fuzziness caused by discontinuities in how precise a spectrometer can measure light wavelengths as opposed to what they truly are — for any measurement, there's always going to be some inherent loss of precision, some truncated trailing decimal places that extend into infinity that aren't worth the effort to truly measure for the purposes they're used for.

The nouemenal world, by contrast, is the "thing in and of itself", the reality that generates stimuli for your perception. #FFA500 "is orange," I would agree, but it is not the definition of orange, merely an example of a phenomenon that fits your criteria well enough to call it orange. If we adjust the hue slider on your color selector, when does it stop being what you call orange? Is #FFA501 still orange? Is #FEA500? Is #FFA600? Where do the boundaries of the orange territory end? What about the names of other hues that most people would recognize as orange in addition to their own name, like tangerine, salmon, marigold, et cetera, i.e. the various names you'd find in a box of orange crayons that, while commonly agreed upon to all be some kind of orange, have different variations in their hues? Between any two given entities, there may be overlap, there may be divergence, there are points of agreement, but there are also points of contention.

And this is what I mean by how something can both be real and not: your perception has, thus far, been limited. You were not able to verbalize of a more precise definition of orange, nor were you able to distinguish how your example falls short in the exact same way that "the collective memory of thousands of years of civilization" also falls short. Your example diverges from the noumenon of orange, it diverges from reality. All the same, it's your perception, and thus it's real to you.

We're all in a similar boat as far as it pertains to Juliet's wintry imprisonment, but I do not feel as if the veil has been lifted and we suddenly see the full truth, I do not feel as if my perception is, finally, completely synonymous with reality; I merely feel that we've upgraded from a color picker to a spectrometer. One layer has been shed, but how many more remain?

huh that's weird it seems like everyone elses in general had a net-zero effect on their summoned location, wonder why yours was different. or maybe it fixed itself post pixel fire apocalypse?? its probably fine i wouldn't worry about it.

also that's a good point I'm kinda curious what everyone else does for a living, curious if there's any common point between us. one of the other guys said he was a DJ, and i'm a, uh … researcher. So seems like 'no' so far but other people respond to dis and lets find out

My name's Owen Carter, and I'm one of the Senior Prosecutors at the courthouse.

Somebody was out for blood last night, and I nearly bought the farm before my Angel rescued me.

We've really got to be wary of these 'Treasures', because we have no idea what they might be capable of.

My Angel also trashed the lobby of the Courthouse, so I don't think I'm going to head into work first thing tomorrow. If anyone wants a ride from a less-stylish set of wheels, let me know.
Just make sure not to sit on my new sword.

I almost died last night, but the Angel who visited me got me to drink this 'Cup of Wishes' and healed me right up.
But not my suit :(

Need to watch out for some treasure called the 'Covered Moon'.
Apparently it prevents misfortune, but also punched a lunchbox-sized hole in my side without me seeing how it happened.

thats literally the entire point of an angel dude so id hope so.

idk have you tried telling them a literal divine messenger did it??? true seems like a pretty fucking good option for a religious family imo

if they care about the why, reality obviouly glitches out when an angel or god decends. mine fucked with the lighting, causes a huge power surge, and involved a lot of gunky dark.

Did anyone else's angel leave them seeing just how broken this world of ours really is? Wait, I should introduce myself first… Miyu Haruyama, from the shrine of the same name, that now has three extra copies of the Lunar Fox's statue in weird poses thanks to my angel… Does anyone know of a good excuse to give to one's family for that kind of happenstance?

P.S. I know the tails are fluffy, but please don't touch them without asking first. (If you haven't been by the shrine before, you'll know what I mean when we first meet)
