Ch1 2

Peter|GM: THE BASE CAMP, AT THE ARCOLITH "FILIOS" .
Peter|GM: The waves rustle and whisper as they drain through the shattered black stone at the base of the beach that so smoothly sweeps out to the sea.
Peter|GM: In the distance, the sails of some of the fishing fleets that have come to ply the waters by the Towers can be seen.
Peter|GM: The Arcolith is composed of many buildings, blue-black stone, cyclopean, ancient. The key Elbereth holds opens another of them, too, the so-called Site B.
Peter|GM: As the stone walkways surrounding it are unshattered, there's no easy purchase from down here.
Peter|GM: The rubble ramp leads up to the upper level, at the very least. The two sites are separated by flooded streets that glitter with flowering coral.
Hayreddin stands at the edge of a walkway, arms across chest, hands within each other's sleeves. He turns to look at Elbereth.
Elbereth has been keeping herself busy at the camp for the most part. There was quite a few things that needed to get done so they could settle in. She glances at Pica. "How did you enjoy Leviathan, by the way?"
Pica-Y-Mata: "It has more than five square feet of walking space. A proper bed. And food."
Elbereth smiles. "Restless are we, Mister Hayreddin? I could honestly say the same."
Pica-Y-Mata: "Literally anything is better than where I've been for…"
Pica-Y-Mata: "As long as I was."
Hayreddin: "Hah." He nods. "I suppose so. On the precipice literally and historically, here!"
Lobelia comes out from the inside of the Arcolith, hauling two metal, humanoid automatons with her, one on each shoulder. She leaves trails in the sand, their claws scraping against the black stones. As she approaches, she steps into Elbereth's field of view, her face flushed and brow sweaty. "Which tent is miss Sheridan's? Brought up an evening diversion for her, they were about to get drenched."
Hayreddin: "Given the second key, is it known where its entrypoint lies?"
Elbereth nods to Lobelia before directing her to the proper tent. "We do, mister Hayreddin. I would surmise that the two dungeons are linked. No doubt we can change things for the first expedition if actions are performed in the second. They are two seperate entrances after all."
Elbereth: "Would you like to take a look?"
Lobelia nods her thanks, and departs to it. After a moment, she emerges one machine lighter, then stops by her own tent- then steps out, free from burden, and grabs a drink from a nearby waterbarrel.
Hayreddin walks away from the ledge, back towards the camp. He begins to sit, but stops at Elbereth's question.
Hayreddin: "That I would, if only to survey the entry. I would not be so quick to invite disaster to enter alone!"
Elbereth: "I doubt you have much to worry there. A capable man of the West Crescent is among us. And I have witnessed Pica's talents with my own eyes."
Elbereth: "Lady Wintervine, does your promise to ensure my safety still hold true? It seems we wish to explore a bit on our own."
Pica-Y-Mata: "A portion of them," he corrects.
Hayreddin tilts his head back slightly, and a grin grows across his face.
Hayreddin: "Restlessness into exploratory interest. Do you intend to also delve, Madame Elbereth?"
Elbereth: "It is my duty to ensure the well-being of this crew. I cannot very well do that if you've all gone inside."
Lobelia lets out a satisfied sigh after gulping down some water and wiping her brow. "I'm glad I came back, in that case. I'm sure the captain will understand that I cannot return to her party until I see this duty completed."
Elbereth smiles warmly at Lobelia before making her way towards the second entrance.
Hayreddin glances to Lobelia, then to Pica, and back to Elbereth, sizing them up. Finally, he barks out a short laugh.
Hayreddin: "A great responsibility has been borne. We go!" In a smooth motion, his staff goes from being slung across his back to in his hand, assisting him in gliding after Elbereth.
Elbereth: "After I open the door, would you mind taking the lead, Mister Hayreddin? I am sorry to say that I am more of a back row combatant."
Peter|GM: The path towards Site B: A scramble up the ramp to Site A, a stroll down the avenue - there are even larger edifices looming behind, blocky forts and forbidding spires, and vast avenues lost under the ocean -
Peter|GM: A massive stone pier has fallen into the water between the two sites, and the coral growing along it makes a well enough walkway, with careful balance, over to the other side of the street.
Peter|GM: The alcove leading into Site B isn't far away, on the south face of that building.
Hayreddin: "I would not mind at all. I would insist on it!"
Lobelia unhooks her gun from her belt and follows after. "I don't think you'll have to much to fear from taking point. Aside from the minor issue of a 2-storey tall automaton, getting the door open gave us the most trouble."
Pica-Y-Mata wordlessly moves to keep pace with Hayreddin. He isn't interested in leading, but he definitely perceives himself as a front row person.
Hayreddin: "A 'minor' issue? Amazing." He nods at Lobelia. "We're counting your expertise, now!"
Peter|GM: The front door of Site B shines beneath its tarnish, faintly silver. It awaits the key.
Pica-Y-Mata: "She said it was only two stories." His tone of voice is matter-of-fact, sincere.
Hayreddin takes step-step-staff maneuvers across the coral'd makeshift walkway, and through the alcove. He comes to a stop before the door.
Elbereth pops the lock before smiling at Pica. "If it is at the entrance, no doubt two stories is only a minor inconvenience."
Elbereth: "Especially if it was felled so easily."
Peter|GM: A mechanism inside loosens the door a little, offering purchase for it to be pulled open.
Lobelia: "And there was only one of them." She nods appreciately, then steps in front of Elbereth with a 'allow me' to press her weight on the door to get it open.
Hayreddin grabs onto a portion of the door- push or pull? Either way, it's movin'.
Peter|GM: The doors swing open with a grind, brittle blue matter crumbling from the hinges as it opens. Algae? Coral? Something organic.
Hayreddin takes care to not breathe too deeply before the dust settles a bit. He pushes the doors open a bit more, allowing more light within, and surveys the surroundings.
Peter|GM: Inside, a short, square room. There's long benches on either side, padded with rotting leather.
Peter|GM: Sconces on the walls flicker with blue ruin-light.
Peter|GM: A glass door - and another glass door beyond it, separated by a small threshhold - divide this room from the rest of the ruin beyond.
Peter|GM: The floor here is stone. The floor in the threshhold, metal grating.
Hayreddin: "Madame Elbereth, are you armed in some fashion?"
Elbereth glances at the seats a bit taken aback. "They had leather benches? Fascinating."
Elbereth lifts up her apron slightly to reveal a grimoire attached to her hip. "Not in the traditional sense. I am versed in a variety of sorcery however."
Hayreddin nods. "I shall sense when to duck accordingly!" He enters the small room, testing the grate with his staff before committing weight to it.
Peter|GM: The glass door must be pulled open to test the grate, and:
Lobelia steps through the room, pushing over a bench to see if anything of interest is underneath. She flips it back when she's done. "Moving on to the next room, then!"
Peter|GM: Lobelia: A little colony of glow-whiskered sealice escape into the cracks of the stone from the upholstery.
Peter|GM: The grating pushes down at the touch of the staff. Click!
Peter|GM: There's a noise like a mechanical snore and a plume of hot air shoots up from the floor, fogging the glass.
Peter|GM: It's hot like a sunny day, not scalding.
Elbereth: "It would appear we have a trap on our hands."
Pica-Y-Mata lets the others explore the mechanisms. His tail twitches impatiently. Though the heat is pleasant enough for now.
Pica-Y-Mata: "Are you sure?"
Hayreddin: "Lest we choke to death, it does not seem overly harmful."
Hayreddin depresses his staff from the ground.
Elbereth: "Is this some sort of ancient sauna?"
Peter|GM: …It does kinda feel like a dry sauna.
Peter|GM: A dry, windy sauna.
Pica-Y-Mata: "Or some depressurization chamber, possibly."
Hayreddin: "…possibly! Mind your skirt." He ventures further in, attempting to avoid the grate with a hop if he can- and if he can't, well… we're just gonna do it!
Peter|GM: It's a little awkward to reach over and get the other door, but you can get through the threshhold without activating the blowing air!
Lobelia scratches her head. "The other chambers were awfully damp. Perhaps this breeze is meant to dry you off?"
Elbereth: "This section does not appear to be flooded. At least yet."
Hayreddin holds the other door open for others, and continues once they're gathered.
Peter|GM: As you come out, there's the brightness of natural light:
Peter|GM: It's a massive garden!
Lobelia pulls out a notebook from a pouch on her belt, along with a portable pen, and marks down a square and a corridor. "The captain is preparing a map of the other area, by the way. I shall do the same, unless someone more practiced would rather do so?" She steps through the windy room while sketching.
Peter|GM: A covered walkway, lined with archways that open up onto the sunlit garden-field runs east and west here.
Peter|GM: But ahead, a garden: Huge and blooming with coral flowers, trees with crystalline blossoms, going quite a ways.
Peter|GM: Through the brush, you can spy that the walkways seem to run to the west and east of the garden, as well.
Hayreddin: "The task is all yours, Madame Wintervine." He continues forward, and slows his pace at the view.
Elbereth: "West first, then?"
Peter|GM: The closest bit of garden to you seem to be some flower-encrusted, engraved rocks, onto which latch flowers with thick, anemone-like tendrils.
Peter|GM: The center of the garden seems to contain a massive tower surrounded by trees, rising up out of sight.
Peter|GM: Lobelia spies, walking along the eastern walkway, one of the tremendous knight-like automatons, a Steelian. Its poise suggests a guard on patrol.
Hayreddin: "Yes… West." He turns on his heel and begins to head west, now hefting his staff in two hands. He shakes the wonder from his head, focusing on what's around him in a practical sense.
Pica-Y-Mata lets his gaze linger east for more than he probably should.
Lobelia nods in approval and continues off to the west. "You can see one of the machines we fought to the east. I wonder if we'll have to fight it, or if another ceiling-platform will crush it again."
Pica-Y-Mata: "What a shame."
Elbereth: "Given how high that tower extends, I have my doubts of the ceiling crushing it Lady Wintervine."
Hayreddin: "Would that one could chop a tree and fell it onto the machine, but… it'd be a waste!"
Peter|GM: The southerwestern corner turns from one walkway onto another. A staircase, spiralling, descends below.
Peter|GM: The closest spot in the garden here is a murky pond, dappled with blue flowers that suggest lily-pads, blooming luminously.
Peter|GM: Jutting out from the middle of the pond is a small glass capsule containing a sapphire jewel.
Hayreddin moves to the edge of the pond, tests it with the end of his staff.
Peter|GM: It doesn't seem too deep, though your staff comes out encrusted in a thick blue algae slime.
Hayreddin scrapes some of it off by rubbing it against the ground.
Peter|GM: …It dries spectacularly hard in moments. You'd probably need a knife.
Elbereth glances at Lobelia. "Lady Wintervine, have you dealt with these orbs?"
Hayreddin: "Not one to pass up a shining opportunity at something… shining, but we'll likely need to float over the surface."
Elbereth nods. "I shall retrieve the orb then."
Lobelia kneels down to inspect it closer. "Is it a Water orb? We found an air one that was suspending an aqueous wall in ice." She narrows her eyes at it… "No, this one is of an entirely different design. Elbereth, could you examine this for any enchantments?"
Elbereth: "Certainly, once I acquire it."
Hayreddin will keep the hardened algae on the end of his staff for now, will try to shake it loose upon contact with a monster or somesuch.
Elbereth reaches for her grimoire before fanning the pages. She speaks the magic words, "Rossa Vee" before calmly stepping on to the lake. [+3 Sorcery, +1 Thaumaturgy, 6 die]
Pica-Y-Mata: "I assume you still want it intact."
Elbereth rolled 6d6 and got 2, 4, 3, 3, 2, 4 ( Total: 18 )
[OOC] Elbereth: loooool
[OOC] Elbereth: This is how it's going to be all game
[OOC] Elbereth: 1 LP on both 4's…
Peter|GM: It freezes softly under Elbereth's footsteps.
Peter|GM: She must walk carefully, but a thin blossom of frost supports, somehow, her every step.
Elbereth nods before walking across the lake, leaving a frozen path in her steps. She examines the orb.
Peter|GM: A cabuchon-cut jewel, contained within a broken glass capsule. Wires that once connected it to its pedestal are long eroded.
Elbereth holds it up to examine it. "How did you say the orbs worked in the other expedition, Lady Wintervine?"
Peter|GM: There's a bit of watery manna leaking out of it, still.
Peter|GM: …You might be able to use it as an accessory once you figure it out. [Unidentified Accessory - A Water Jewel?]
Hayreddin: "Well done."
Peter|GM: The Steelian can be seen turning onto the south walkway.
Peter|GM: It's moving pretty calmly, isn't he?
Lobelia: "If they worked the same as the other side? Then we'd have heard an earth-shattering crash. I'm not very certain that's integral, functionality-wise."
Elbereth places it back down on the pedastal and tries to poke it with some water magic just to be sure before she takes it.
Peter|GM: The jolt of magic does drive into the pedestal for a moment, and the water around it churns a little.
Peter|GM: …The patch around the pedestal is a little cleaner, now.
Peter|GM: The water, a bit clearer.
Peter|GM: The bottom is stone-dappled.
Lobelia: "Try a little fire magic? That certainly had a bit more 'give' to it than the elemental orb on the other side."
Hayreddin: "A cleaning mechanism? Filtering?"
Elbereth makes her way back to the party before slipping away the water orb. "The wiring on this pedastal seems to be damaged. If we can find a working one this may do something more. It definitely reacted to water magic."
Elbereth: "If nothing else, filtering gives us reassurance if the water level ever changes." She gestures to Hayreddins staff.
Hayreddin nods. "It would be nice if this could become a source of clean water, as well."
Elbereth: "Did we want to go east now? Maybe get closer to that tower?"
Peter|GM: You could circle the pond and head right to the tower, easily.
Peter|GM: (A little bit of a walk northeast.)
Hayreddin: "Yes, though let's stay under the walkway for now, to avoid the mechanism patrolling above."
Elbereth: "With any luck, the other ponds will also be distilled now. I'd hate to have a small puddle splash."
Peter|GM: Ah, pardon me: The 'walkway' is the path circling the garden. So the Steelian is on the same level as you, walking the same path.
[OOC] Hayreddin: ok retcon
[OOC] Peter|GM: but of course <3
Hayreddin: "Yes, though we should do something about the patrol, as it nears ever closer."
Pica-Y-Mata: "GLADLY." He's seemed restrained until now, but he moves with a sudden sense of fervor -
Hayreddin ducks behind shrubbery, advancing under cover towards the automaton-
Pica-Y-Mata just leaps at it!
Elbereth: "If it truly is just one, we should make quick work of the automaton."
Elbereth follows after Pica, not bothering with stealth for one enemy.
Hayreddin: "Hah! As you will." He stands from his crouch and joins the charge.
Peter|GM: The tremendous automaton brandishes its sword as you approach, its tremendous saucer-disc head gleaming at the edge!
Lobelia nods. "That's fine. Hopefully we will not damage this magnificent garden in the battle." She grins. "No promises, though~!"
Peter|GM: IT'S A FIGHT!
Peter|GM: Pep activates, increasing Lobelia's Drive!
Peter|GM: Pica-Y-Mata!

Lobelia clicks open the chamber of her gun, loading some fresh rounds in, littering the floor with her spent casings. … But she picks them up, the garden is no place for such refuse. "As I said- the automaton was a small matter, was it not?"
Pica-Y-Mata: "Sadly."
Peter|GM: Whatever animated the Steelian before, the inside now seems to mostly be inert stone. How bizarre.
Hayreddin: "Hm… nothing of value, it seems."
Kit starts looking around as Kat strolls back over to her. "Well, that's a good thing really… So uh, what's going on, since, lost track of time and all before catching up?"
Pica-Y-Mata glances over at Elbereth. "If we encounter any crowds, expect a show."
Peter|GM: A garden fills the center of this massive building -in the southwest corner, where the party is standing, a covered path extends to the north and the east.
Elbereth nods. "My twister will shred all enemy ranks as well."
Peter|GM: To the northeast, there's a pond nearby, and the rest of the garden beyond that.
Elbereth: "It was somewhat wasteful to engage with it on one target."
Kit also walks over to each member of the party, and heals them if they wish [Lemme know if you want healing, so I can eat the MP costs]
Pica-Y-Mata //grins.// For probably the first time since being under the sun again.
Peter|GM: To the northeast further, at the garden center, there's a spiring tower, that reaches far above.
[OOC] Elbereth: 1x for Elbereth and Lobelia should be fine. 2 casts
Peter|GM: Also, to the southwest, in the corner of the building, a spiraling staircase heads downwards.
Hayreddin: "We should have more time in this area to poke around!"
[OOC] Kit: +15HP to both!
Elbereth: "Did we want to climb the tower, or…?"
Kit looks at the tower, and her gaze follows it up, and up and.. "Wow, that's tall!"
Pica-Y-Mata: "As long as we just move."
Peter|GM: Even further still, a tremendously high glass ceiling lets the sunlight pour down onto the garden.
Hayreddin nods. "Let's keep to our original plan and explore the tower next. Watch your step!"
Lobelia: "Let's inspect the perimeter before we enter. We may also wish to take the staircase downwards- there was a mechanism in the other side, a room in the basement controlled functions on the ground floor. Perhaps the same is true here?"
Hayreddin thinks with a hand to his jawline, and then nods again. "I have no objection to this."
Kit: "Umm, could be, dunno… But, in the interest of not slowing us down, can we ride on someone's shoulder?"
Pica-Y-Mata glances between Lobelia and the others. The moment Hayreddin speaks, he strides towards the staircase.
Elbereth picks up Kit and puts them in one of her apron pockets.
Hayreddin also heads for the downward staircase!
Peter|GM: A wash of cold air hits you as you come downstairs:
Lobelia glances at the coral tree for a moment, taking in the sight, perhaps remembering days spent in gardens elsewhere… Before heading down the stairs.
Kit: "Thanks"
Peter|GM: The chamber here is just as massive as the garden up above, a small hanging platform looking out onto a deep, deep abyss just below, enclosed by four walls the size of the garden.
Peter|GM: A catwalk runs along the southern wall, ending on a door. The edges are railed off, for safety.
Hayreddin walks along the catwalk, using his staff as a prod as he advances.
Peter|GM: Crossing the middle of the abyss - you could probably hop to it from the catwalk, but no railings protect it - are two tremendous steel bars, interlocking, each fitting into grooves running along either side of the wall.
Peter|GM: Where they meet, sitting on the top bar, is a glowing blue luminous ring, that seems to be conjuring up water vapor, a glowing mist, from deep, deep below, and pushing it up and through the ceiling.
Peter|GM: A massive snake-monster is sleeping on it. Eyeless, carapaced, coiled.
Elbereth tries to discern the purpose of the ring. From… a distance.
Kit whispers "Eww.. Not gonna like being in that mist"
Peter|GM: Hmm… there's magical energy running to it from the bar to the east…
Peter|GM: Hayreddin: The walkway ends in a doorway leading to the south - you can see a little glowing pedestal inside, shining red.
Peter|GM: There's a turnwheel just past it, too.
Peter|GM: Just past it but still in the abyss room, I mean.
Hayreddin keeps his eye on the snake but maneuvers through the doorway, to inspect the pedestal.
Elbereth follows after Hayreddin.
Peter|GM: There's a glowing red stone orb embedded in it. Light flowing from it heads along the floor, up the east wall, up to the ceiling.
Peter|GM: Lobelia would recognize this kind of setup!
Elbereth: "(This requires fire magic, correct?)"
Lobelia points to the stone orb. "Fire orb. There was a water one… Miss Folis seemed to think she could alter its element with a brute-force application of flames. Nothing seemed to happen, though."
Elbereth nods before attempting to channel some fire magic on to the orb as a test.
Kit frowns "I have a bad feeling about this"
Pica-Y-Mata: "I've water available, but given the other's results with the opposite element."
Hayreddin: "Nothing ventured, nothing gained!"
Peter|GM: Experimentation or Sorcery would be appropriate - you're mostly looking to discover more info, right Elbereth?
Elbereth: "You may want to conserve your mana. I am well versed in the elements."
[OOC] Elbereth: Yup!
Elbereth rolled 6d6 and got 3, 1, 2, 2, 6, 4 ( Total: 18 ) for Sorcery. Adding a bonus die since I'm trying to understand magic based on the primal expressions
Pica-Y-Mata: "Only because you ask."
[OOC] Elbereth: Another LP on the 4 since I cannot pass skill checks to save my life…
Peter|GM: This is an orb that's providing fiery manna to power a certain mechanism. It's currently active, but you could remove it, or swap it out with a different orb.
Peter|GM: You could use it as a magical implement too. (It has some sort of special power that you'd have to study seperately.)
Peter|GM: Is there another question you'd like to ask about it, with your second success?
What would likely happen if it was swapped with the water jewel?
Peter|GM: The water jewel's not really the intensity or durability to serve in that way, but if you amped its power a little bit, you'd probably get a sudden burst of watery manna in the hot-air room…
Peter|GM: It might crack the jewel, but you'd probably create a huge, billowing cloud.
Elbereth: "It seems this device is for the sauna upstairs."
Hayreddin: "There will be time for refreshing breaks at the end of the day!"
Elbereth: "If that is your wish, I believe we should leave the orb here. Since it is at the entrance to the ruins, it could be used as stress relief on our journey."
Pica-Y-Mata: "The snake."
Pica-Y-Mata tilts his head. "Shall I?"
Elbereth nods. "If you may."
Hayreddin crosses his arms, tilts his head a bit. "It was mostly as a jest- is this jewel's… 'wiring' like the other?"
Pica-Y-Mata takes a step, but waits for Hayreddin to finish his line of thought, foot still in the air.
Peter|GM: Hayreddin: If you look closely, they aren't.
Elbereth: "The pedastals only purpose it to channel firey magic upstairs for the sauna. Unless you desired to pawn this off for a few gold and refuse the option of luxury to the crew, I would suggest we leave it be, Mister Hayreddin."
Kit climbs out from Elbereths pocket, and falls to the floor unceremoniously, but just gets up and dusts herself off, and then readies for the coming fight
Pica-Y-Mata resumes his gait. If the snake wakes, so be it.
Peter|GM: You're walking out onto the iron bars that the snake is sleeping on?
Hayreddin: "It holds no specific place in my heart, but if these gems have magical applications- it would be reasonable to hold onto them for convenience sake, should we find other pedastals for them."
Hayreddin: "We can always replace it here on our way out."
Pica-Y-Mata: Yep.
Peter|GM: The massive snake, bathing in the mist, lifts its head to watch Pica-Y-Mata approach.
Peter|GM: It's a narrow causeway. You're certain you won't lose your balance, but…
[OOC] Peter|GM: If you fight here, only one person can be in the front row.
Kit waves Kat over, and quickly prods at her brothers body [Changing programs before the fight]
Lobelia: "I… would hardly call something so terribly dry a sauna. It could certainly stand to have its water attribute raised. By no small amount. It seems most likely to me that the ring is Water-aspected, and the Fire part results in the continued moisture of the soil above us due to the steam…"
Elbereth: "I would like to examine the ring closer, but…" She gestures to the snake.
Pica-Y-Mata takes point. [Taking the front row spot.]
Kit finishes prodding her brother, and turns to watch Pica and the snake…
Peter|GM: Lobelia: Hmm… actually, the manna is flowing along it from the eastern bar. There's probably another pedestal connected to that.
Hayreddin chuckles. "Fortunately, I am also equipped to fight at this range!"
Kit: "Won't be a problem for Kat, now that I've readied him for ranged combat"
Elbereth: "Good luck up front, Mister Pita. I realize that we are putting you in more danger than the others from it."
Hayreddin: "I think the pleasure is all his."
Pica-Y-Mata turns back to give Elbereth a shrug, like this is just … par for the course.
Kit: "I'll keep him safe!"
Hayreddin raises an arm, and there's a 4-cylinder revolver in his hand!
Pica-Y-Mata stomps on the bars, rattling them, letting them ring loud and function as a wake-up call for the snake.
Peter|GM: It rears up, fans on all along its body flipping upwards and gleaming with abyssal light. It sneers and hisses, the eyes in its mouth staring down Pica-Y-Mata from behind its fangs!
Lobelia makes a note to point out that detail later- everyone else seems focused on the snake. "Not ones to shy away from an interesting fight, are we? I feel like we'll be fast friends, crew." She grins, eyes widening.
Peter|GM: IT'S A FIGHT!
Peter|GM: Bathing in the mist, the Coral Hunter has Long Elemental Power II!
Elbereth: "I already assumed we were, Lady Wintervine."
Peter|GM: Pep activates!
Peter|GM: Round One - Showtime!
Elbereth: "Most would want to turn off that which is powering its elemental potency boosts before engaging. We are quite the interesting crew."
Hayreddin: "Hm… is that what is called a [Field Effect]?"

Lobelia: "We'll have to have the others prove their fine tea palettes at camp, Elbereth, won't we?"

Lobelia rolled 1d100 and got 2 ( Total: 2 ) for 80/35
Peter|GM: It's a critical hit!
Pica-Y-Mata: "Also, the vapor helps."
Lobelia rolled 2d6+12 and got 5, 3 ( Total: 20 ) for +4 crit
Peter|GM: 20 damage!
Peter|GM: The shot rings true, shattering the spire and the beast's spine in one terrible shot -
Peter|GM: The snake hisses madly, loosens from the ring, and drops to the darkness below.
Peter|GM: THE COAST IS CLEAR. All threats have been terminated and the Arcolith beckons. Got +5 EXP.
Pica-Y-Mata steps back and allows the others to inspect the ring.
Elbereth: "Excellent work, everyone. Lady Wintervine, Mister Pita are you alright?"
Peter|GM: Kat puts the bomb away.
Hayreddin spins his revolver around, and with a wave of the hand, it vanishes up a sleeve. He plucks the red jewel from its pedestal, and heads out across the unrailed walkway.
Elbereth: "You both look rather beaten up."
Pica-Y-Mata: "If I fall, I'll just get back up."
Pica-Y-Mata: "I don't think you understand just how tireless I am."
Peter|GM: After the orb is plucked up, the red light fades from the conduit it was driving.
Lobelia steps out to the walkway and tosses two spent casings down into the abyss, following up with a rude gesture and an ounce of spit. She sighs heavily, leaning against the wall. "Admirable, mister Pica. I, however, could use some healing, though."
Peter|GM: The east-west iron bar, running the other way underneath the ring, leads to another walkway on the east side of the room, with a turnwheel sitting by a pedestal containing a blue orb.
Hayreddin: "We would feel bad if we went back to camp, fed and warm, while you climbed up from the abyss!" The orb goes into a pocket.
Elbereth: "Did one of you want to see what this turnwheel does?"
Peter|GM: That walkway leads south to another staircase in the southeast corner of the site.
Hayreddin: "Not while standing on this walkway!"
Hayreddin: "Likely, it spins it around, and that's how we would have depowered the…"
Hayreddin: "Hm."
Hayreddin: "You think if both pedestals were slotted with the same color orb… something might happen?"
Elbereth: "Just to clarify, the water jewel is not an orb. It would break under such mechanisms."
Hayreddin: "Ahh. Well then."
Kit rushes between all the hurt people, and tries to heal them as best she can, but resources are dwindling…
[OOC] Kit: 24 MP, -3 per heal, +15 HP per
[OOC] Elbereth: … who are you healing?
[OOC] Kit: Trying to figure that out, since some are gonna need more then one heal
[OOC] Pica-Y-Mata: Do Lobelia first if resources are that scarce. I have a Daze attack where I can Get Back Up at a lowish chance
[OOC] Elbereth: I'd just heal Lobelia 3x tbh and maybe give Pica one
[OOC] Kit: SHe's lower too, so yeah
[OOC] Elbereth: And call it a day
[OOC] Lobelia: two heals ought to be fine for now
[OOC] Lobelia: I can deal with 66/95
[OOC] Pica-Y-Mata: I can deal with 40/80
Elbereth pockets the Water Orb.
[OOC] Kit: Too bad, you get 3!, and you get 2 mister Final Boss Monster
Hayreddin: "Any gleaning from where this pedestal is connected?"
Elbereth seems to be checking out just that.
Peter|GM: The other pedestal's conduit… on close inspection, it seems to be connected to the iron bar, and then the ring.
Peter|GM: So on the east side of the room, you have access to the blue orb that's powering it now.
Peter|GM: Oh -
Peter|GM: As the water orb is plucked up,
Peter|GM: the conduit fades, and the mist stops being conjured up.
Elbereth: "With the snake fallen, this device no longer serves a purpose Mister Hayreddin."
Hayreddin: "Oh?" He holds up the Fire Orb. "Shall we experiment?"
Elbereth nods. "I imagine it would shoot something more heated, but feel free."
Hayreddin places the fire orb where the water orb once laid.
Peter|GM: Red manna shoots along the conduit.
Lobelia kneels down to give Kit a pat on the head, smiling. "I apologize if I implied imaginary tea is anything less than superb earlier."
Peter|GM: The ring hums, and a beam of heat shoots up from the abyss, shining up into the ceiling above.
Elbereth: "The serpent was weak to fire. Swapping this during the fight would have fried it."
Peter|GM: You can hear a faint cracking noise, like steam being cooked out of a damp log.
Peter|GM: There's the turnwheels, too.
Kit smiles back at her "It's ok, I only like it because I'm a doll, I know real tea is better to you real people!"
Hayreddin: "Hah. It appears so." He manipulates the turnwheel!
Peter|GM: As the wheel turns, one of the iron bar slides forward, moving the ring along with it…
Peter|GM: It moves the ring in the north-south direction.
Peter|GM: The other wheel (with some experimentation) moves it in the east-west direction.
Pica-Y-Mata: "I'm glad we took the more challenging route."
Pica-Y-Mata: "I needed to stretch my wings."
Hayreddin: "Can you use those to fly, Sir Pica?"
Pica-Y-Mata: "No."
Elbereth smiles. "I couldn't agree more, Mister Pica. It was a good opportunity to see what we are all capable of. I was a bit worried myself, having not engaged in such grueling sorcery in almost a century."
Peter|GM: Some of the positions of the turnwheel seem a little more stable than others. That is, think of this device as letting you position the ring anywhere in a 3x3 grid beneath the garden.
Pica-Y-Mata: "Only a century?"
Hayreddin nods. "Then we are still glad to have you, even if you are still earth-bound."
Elbereth: "I am afraid I cannot rival you."
Pica-Y-Mata: "It's not something to be envious of."
Hayreddin stops, and removes the fire orb.
Hayreddin: "…so much for that part of the garden!"
Elbereth places the water orb on the pedastal that goes to the Sauna. Just to see.
Peter|GM: The beam of heat dissipates.
Hayreddin: "We could likely freeze the lake if we wanted, though."
Peter|GM: the water orb is placed.
Hayreddin: "Through heat and probably a value of cold, we can likely manipulate the climate above."
Elbereth finishes up her experiments before heading back to the camp.
Hayreddin: "The room with the grate is probably cold now! If we needed food to keep, that would be the place!"
Kit: "Hmm, these pedestles react to elemental manna. Place me on one! I'm Air Manna charged!"
Hayreddin: "But first…" He maneuvers the ring to be in the southwest corner of the room, puts the water orb in the manna beam pedestal, and then heads upstairs to check out the lake. And see what damage, if any, the fire orb caused…
Lobelia: "We can get the Air orb from the other party tomorrow if you'd like to experiment with that, assuming the pedestal doesn't react to one of the dolls that is."
Pica-Y-Mata offers his tail. "Grab on."
Kit grabs hold on Pica's tail
Pica-Y-Mata places Kit on the pedestal.
Kit sits down
Peter|GM: (Back!)
Peter|GM: Hayreddin's test:
Peter|GM: Whatever damage the fire orb caused, the garden seems to recover from it fairly quickly.
Peter|GM: The water orb causes the ring to generate a mist. As it shrouds the lake, the lily-pad like flowers in the water bloom magnificently as the vapour bubbles up from within the water, clearing through some of the murk.
Peter|GM: Pica-Y-Mata and Kit: Which pedestal?
Hayreddin: "An air orb…"
[OOC] Kit: Ring one first?
Peter|GM: Sure!
Peter|GM: When Kit is placed upon the pedestal (and it's clear from the orb), the ring generates a tremendous updraft wind, rising and rattling through whatever section of the garden it's under!
Peter|GM: Fwooooosh!
Kit is alarmed, and hops off quickly "Umm, okaaaay, good to know I can do that"
Hayreddin: "It -is- good to know! A soul as bright and light as that is good to have."
Lobelia finishes sketching her map of the room while the rest of the group is experimenting. "…Air? No, it was water. My apologies, my attention was diverted and I misspoke. This works even better, in that case."
Hayreddin: "Indeed. With a large enough tarp or cover, I bet one could ride the winds."
Hayreddin: "…if we would ever need such a thing."
Kit: "So, we have, between both groups, 2 water orbs, a fire one, and me?"
Hayreddin: "Mmmm, well, that first 'water orb' was different, more like a water jewel. It can't be used in these pedestals without breaking."
Lobelia: "Right. And unaspected orbs of plain stone seem to work, as well, for negating output."
Hayreddin: "And Madame Windervine has mentioned an air orb- interesting."
Kit: 'Wait, what jewel? "
Pica-Y-Mata: "The one from the pond."
Kit: "The pond had a jewel?"
Pica-Y-Mata: "Yes. You had not yet arrived."
Kit: 'So, 2 water orbs, a water jewel, a fire orb, and me, then
Kit: "
Pica-Y-Mata: "One orb, one jewel, both water-aspected."
Lobelia: "…Was it air or water? Well, it was one of the two. You'll have to forgive me, I may have sat through months of lessons on the Elements, but they bored me so terribly."
Kit: "Between the two groups"
Hayreddin: "We'll share information over a hearty dinner, eh?"
Kit: "Yeah, I know I'm gonna be asking them lots of questions for sure"
Hayreddin: "Let's take stock of the garden above before returning. Madame Elbereth shouldn't be long without her loyal guards!… even though she has well proven to be strong on her own!"
Hayreddin laughs, the sound echoing off the walls.
Peter|GM: The garden's a little big - I guess they designed it with nine distinct sectors? - But since you don't want to be ambushed, it's probably best to head right back.
Lobelia nods. "I haven't quite worked up enough of an appetite to call it a day yet, I don't think. One more good fight in me, maybe. It can have bloody lightning spires for all I care, as long as I can tear them apart with my axe this time." "
Peter|GM: A MOMENT'S RESPITE, BEFORE FURTHER TRIALS.
