Sw31

Split Worlds - Session 31
The incredibly warm winds of the desert. Behind you, the towering ruin of Phoenix Grave, wherein the one once (perhaps still?) called a goddess by those men resides. Around you, shielding the massive structure a jade-colored field of energy, saving you from the melting heat of the unending sun above you, which shines so bright you cannot see the sky if you look up wards
Sarah is intently searching for something- A specific something that will be your means of return to land, a violet dot in the hull, demarking where the beam of light which had been propelling your lightsailer for this trip
Argent: "Having trouble finding something, Sarah?"
Sarah shakes her head "Nope, found it. Here it is" she taps the little dot "Argent, you're stronger, help me set this up" she mentions, pulling the Crystalite Shield "Going to need to adjust this and change some things but- It should reflect the beam back at a tight angle, and get us back where we departed!"
Argent: "Can do." Argent nods, using her well-earned strength to help get the ship ready to head back out.
Jnezdie squints a whole bunch, blowing air up his face to try to cool down. "Don't mind me if I take to swimmin' once we're about halfway across the sea."
JayM: Even the air you blow up your face is warm
Argent feels…unused to the warmth, to say the least
Sarah finishes adjusting, and walks up to the sail… That is when she has a very, very sudden reaction, grabbing at her head "Diablos's curse…" she takes a few deep breaths "Geez…"
Argent: "Oi, you okay? What about this Diablos and a curse now?"
Gavriel glances up, concerned. "Sarah?"
Sarah grins, it's the weirdest thing- Jnezdie something looks off with him- But conversely, something looks completely correct- You're getting mixed signals
Jack: "Oh aye, it'll be nice to be out of this heat!"
Sarah: "Jack"
Jack: "Hmm?"
Sarah: "Say… In a story where the great villain decides to trap the hero in a dream, forever stuck inside, unwilling to wake up"
Jnezdie wrinkles his eyebrows, taken aback. But dang, is it hot out here. He rubs his eyes.
Sarah: "How does it tends to work?"
Jack: "Well, not particular well! They always discover something is amiss or needs doing and come to their senses!"
Sarah: "But what if this dream included what they need doing? What if this dream was a perfect mimic of reality?"
Sarah: "Would the hero notice it?"
Sarah hits down, one hand still on her head, she looks pained
Jack: "Well, now you're getting into philsophy! How do you know reality is reality if there's no difference betwen it an a fabrication?"
Sarah: "That's true. The only way is an outside agent"
Jack: "But even then, who's to say the roles aren't reversed? There's not really an answer to that, haha."
Jnezdie: "Aw, there's always somethin' wrong with that kinda thing."
Jnezdie: "Then you realize-"
Sarah: "Is true. So if I told you that right now, you're all still asleep?"
Argent eyerolls. "(World's still screwed u-) …The fuck?"
Jnezdie: "'Hey wait I'm still wearing my wedding ring!!!'"
Jnezdie: "Then there's shouting and you wake up 'n stuff."
Jack‘ makes a shrugging motion.
Gavriel raises his eyebrow first at Jack, then at Sarah. Heatstroke?
Jnezdie: "Well, I’d tell you I'm not actually married."
Jnezdie: "This is kina a weird tangent, y'know?"
Sarah: "And- You'd remain asleep for pretty much ever if I didn't happen to not share your dreamworld…"
Jack: "Well."
Sarah makes a swiping motion, and something in the air in front of her akin to glass shatters, leaving a grap in 'reality' right in front of you "And no amount of shaking is waking you guys up- So i'm having to kind of bruteforce my way into your dreams…"
Argent: "…you're shitting me, right? Please at least say that this means the notion of a world that follows the tropes of third-rate adventure stories was a fabrication."
Jack: "Considering you've mentioned that we've all died at least four times before and been remade, I'm not certain what the difference between that an existing in a dream would be." Jack rubs a hand to his chin.
Jnezdie: "Uhhh…"
Jnezdie blinks.
Sarah: "It wasn't… This dream has no lies, a perfect copy of reality meant to trap you here. The perfect lotus-eater machine. Anyway just giving you a heads-up… Before you drop you awake"
Sarah puts both hands inside that 'hole' "Ready? I'm not sure this will even work as intended"
Jnezdie: "Okay? Is this like a codeword or somethin'?"
Argent: "Of course." Argent sighs defeatedly
Jack: "Only one way to find out!"
Jnezdie: "Oh."
Jnezdie: "Oh it's a Thing- oh OH!"
Jnezdie: "Shit, hold on."
Jnezdie sits down, cross-legged.
Jnezdie: "Hit me."
JayM: Sarah's kind of not able to move right now in her state, but whoever decides to help out Jnezdie- It's going to hurt pretty much 100% normal
[OOC] Jnezdie: it's more of a confirmational 'hit me' rather than a command
Jnezdie: "Naw, I mean do whatever it is you're gonna do."
Argent: "…Damn, and that might've been cathartic." Argent comments
Sarah takes a deep breath "WAKE UP!" she drags open the hole- And reality and space tear apart shattering like translucent glass, giving place to darkness- And everything around you shatters and breaks and vanishes leaving nothing but darkness in your senses
Gavriel sloooowly headtilts at Sarah. Frowns, going over potential situations in his mind. The sheer revelation concerning Phoenix and the nature of their world was enough like waking up from a dream that what Sarah's saying isn't as far-fetched as he might ordinarily-
The darkness, however, remains- You cannot move, you act, you cannot see. Yet you feel something on your bodies, the warmth of the bed… But something is not right
Phoenix: "They… Are conscious, but not awake. Their minds are not connecting to their bodies"
A feminine but rough voice answers "Checking… No response, can't get a ping time, anima reactions are getting reflected echoes- It appears there is interference"
Argent is looking about-nothingness. The feelings…this inability to move. (…why can't I move…why won't I move…damnit…movemovemoveMOVEMOVEMOVEMOVEGODDAMNYOU)
Phoenix: "It seems he's moved their minds to a different system sector. I cannot guide them back, a logical route has been damaged… You will need to use your alternate routing. Tinkerbell, this is the address" Phoenix's voice changes slightly, you know she is addressing you "I know you can hear me, don't worry. When you 'wake up' you will be in the pathways that connects all dreams, the
JayM: 'Outer Dreamworld'. I am sending Sarah's assistant AI, Tinkerbell, to fetch you. Please wait for her arrival "
And then that… Sensation- The sensation of a fading dream, when you wake up…
Except this time, as you wake up, you see around you (you're all floating in the air for a moment, but touch your feet on the ground as you awaken) nothing but darkness… Until you look down, a black floor, but with bright crimson lines forming a grid, stretching in a small platform
Jnezdie: "…mmh…"
Argent: "…tch. Alternate routing huh? So who or what's responsible for our current state to begin with?"
Jnezdie blinks a few times, waking up, and he staggers forward a few steps before catching himself.
And you see eachother- See yourselves- And this is just the weirdest thing. You're not wearing your usual clothes any longer, it's like you're wearing a skintight suit, jet-black, with dark blue lines highlighting it. Each one of you also has a crest in the same highlight color emblazoned in the chest
Argent: "…the hell is this?"
Jack‘ lets out a yawn, glances around, then frowns. "An outfit made by someone with truely dreadful fashion sense."
Jnezdie: "I don’t know, I kinda like it."
Gavriel blinks- no, doesn't blink- no body, no eye, just this… smothering, overpowering- no, his body's there, his eye, but- he can still listen to Phoenix's statement, though- shakes his head, shakes himself, blinks himself 'awake', so to speak, looks around- sees the others, nods to Jnezdie. "…bolt-hole."
Jnezdie: "Makes everyone look all… Elvaan-y."
In Jack's chest a sunburst with a musical note in the center, Argent's a jagged claw mark, Jnezdie's a series of spiralling lines suggesting heavy movement, on Gavriel's a negative-colored bullseye mark
Jack: "Fah!"
JayM: Oh, did I notice that it doesn't seems like those are clothes at all- But bare skin, actually, now that you look at yourselves? (though they just go from the neck below)
Argent looks down at the suit she's wearing. "…While I could do without the emblem…" she does some test movements-is she still battle-capable here?
JayM: It's as if you wore no clothes at all, Argent
Jnezdie: "I mean, granted, my lines aren't in the right places at all, but the rest of you could kinda' pass for one, now."
Gavriel rumbles a chuckle. He's been wearing a skin-tight weird-ass catsuit for a long time now, this isn't that strange.
And then you listen from behind all of you, that same feminine voice from before "I am sorry for this. Unfortunately the only GUI I had avaiable was from one of Re'Sheran's games"
Jnezdie: "…kiiiiiiinda, not really."
Jnezdie perks up, turning around.
Argent: "…Well, at least I have the mobility-wait, do I even want to know?"
Jack: "Re
Gavriel whirls, peering into the- distance? the black grid. "Sarah?"
Jack: "Re'Sheran?! Gah! I swear that boy has no sense in his head at all!!"
As you look at the source of the voice, it's- A ronso woman, dressed in what can only be described as a leaf outfit. But that is not the most glaring issue- The most glaring issue is the fact that she is ENTIRELY colored bizarrely. Pink and violet and yellow and other eye-burning colors, her fur is weirdly-colored as if somebody had painted her "No, I am called… Tinkerbell, her artificial
JayM: intelligence assistant. She cannot directly interact with your dreamworld, so I am here in her stead "
TB: "Please do not mind my colors… It was Sarah's own choice, and she is… Colorblind"
Jnezdie is completely overwhelmed by this color scheme, craning his neck back in surprise.
Jack‘ … STARES.
Gavriel tilts his head slightly. "…what’s wrong with it?"
Jack: "Everything!"
Argent: "…Okay, well, Tinkerbell, what the hell kind of game is this?" Argent tries not to be taken back by the, er, utterly oddball color scheme
JayM: If anything, her style is completely unfitting with the setting behind her
Jnezdie: "Well, if it's Re'Sheran's call on the suits, I guess that makes more sense."
TB: "This is not a game- In actuality, this is the space that connects the dreams of every living being in this planet. Phoenix calls it the Outer Dreamworld"
Jnezdie: "I'm Jnezdie."
Jnezdie: "But I guess you knew that."
TB: "This is not a world your senses are adapted to interact with, to I have utilize a tool called Graphical User Interface to make it visible and interactible for you. Unfortunately, this is taken from a game, so pardon if things seem… Unusual"
Argent: "Right then. I think we'll adapt, anyway… So, down to business, Tinkerbell; how do we go from Outer Dreamworld to Awake and Getting Shit Done?"
TB: "Indeed, Jnezdie. My knowledge database is taken from Sarah, so I share knowledge with her. You are in an unique predicament, according to Phoenix"
Gavriel connects the dots, opens his mouth to speak- but then the avatar manages to get it out first. "We left 'unusual' back home when we left, don't worry. What do we have to do?"
Jnezdie: "Outta complete curiosity, is it just 'this world' that it's limited to, and not other planets?"
TB: "I need to simply guide you back towards where your bodies are. The Outer Dreamworld is physically connected to the Real World, so I need your minds to be in the same physical space as your bodies for them to wake up"
TB: "Your… Outer Dreamworld is unique, and is formed by the Angelic Blight"
TB: "On New Terra, a similar but distinctively different in operation thing exists, reffered to as Cyber Plaza. On other worlds, no such thing exists"
Gavriel will worry about the other things- who put us here, how long has it been, how much of his recent memories Actually Happened, in any sort of meaningful sense- later.
Jnezdie: "Cool."
TB: "This world… Works in a very different manner from the material world. It is formed by data, information and thought. While my interface system can translate sufficiently well, you will require some effort of your own in order to maximize your capacities. First step is training in it"
TB: "I will take the efficiency approach, due to the way this world works, time here flows far faster than on yours when travelling, so we need to travel as fast as possible, although time spent in the same place flows extremely slowly"
Argent: "I see." Argent replies, cracking her knuckles.
Jnezdie: "So it's a lotta sprintin' inbetween gettin' your breath?"
Jnezdie: "Gotcha."
TB: "To travel there are two ways, either you create a pathway, that depends on knowing the destination you wish to reach" she points to a direction, and platforms fly in from nowhere forming a narrow pathway, their outlines a shining violet "Or you follow the pre-existant paths" she points to a differently-colored pathway, colored crimson red "However, the distance you can follow on your
JayM: own made pathways is not too great, so we will need to move through waypoints to use that "
Tinkerbell walks across the pathway she formed, and as she does so the platforms fall. In front of you suddenly a series of panels showing untranslatable information appears "Make your way here, each one using a path built by yourselves"
Argent: "…Why am I getting the feeling this will all become relevant much, much later on?" Argent comments as she attempts to brute-force herself a path through sheer force of will.
Jnezdie: "Hmm…"
Jack: "Why not just follow you if time is of the essance?" Jack raises an eyebrow, but shrugs and attempts to do so.
Jnezdie gives a raised eyebrow to a big ol' chunk of empty space, silently saying 'Hey, yo, platforms, make somethin' I can hop on!' Then he realizes he has no idea what he's doing, but tries it again anyway.
TB: "That would require a great expenditure of energy on Sarah's part, and at this point in time Sarah and Phoenix are attempting to prevent the Heir from further hacking into the system. She cannot divert energy to this case, but if I am forced to I can utilize your own energy, but that could leave lasting damage"
Gavriel nods, slightly. Hn. That answers one of his questions.
JayM: There are two ways to go through this. The panels do have a meaning, that you will need to figure out by yourselves with a System [TN 5] check. However… The power of your will can and will play a unique role here, and any check in the Outer Dreamworld can be replaced with a Spirituality check at +2 TN instead if you so wish to
Argent …still doesn't have much in the way of technical expertise
Jnezdie: "Well… let me give another glance at this." He leans back, eyeing the panels, but really he's floating on pure Elvaan intuition. [No Reels]
Gavriel frowns, begins tromping towards the panels. He's got plenty in the way of force of will, but not much in the way of understanding a system this far removed from his normal experience. [more fucking nothing]
Jack‘ pokes about at the panels to see how it works. [Aptitude] [Dependable]
Jack` rolled d10 and got 6 ( Total: 6 ) **
d8+1: 3 [Total: 4.0 (Low), Avg: 3.00]
Also rolled 3#d8(1) and got 7 [Total: 7 (High), Avg: 7.00]
Also rolled 3#d8(2) and got 7 [Total: 7 (High), Avg: 7.00]
Also rolled 3#d8(3) and got 3 [Total: 3 (Low), Avg: 3.00]
Total: 27.0, Avg: 5.20
It is… A not illogical system, and as you adapt and learn the panels before you translate into information- Information that is particularly useful for you and you only, customized for your needs. It appears that information here is, in fact, everything. The pathways are not mere ’stepping stones' but directing what should go where and how to make a route there through existing 'physical'
JayM: pathways in the most efficient manner possible (one such thing the panels show is a map of the physical pathways, good GODS that is the most confusing and mazelike thing you ever saw in your lives).
As you finish make your way towards Tinkerbell, she nods "Interesting… You seem to have mastered data routing logistics in a record time… This must be related to the brain structure…" you notice that as she speaks that a notebook flips beside her, writing itself, before vanishing "Very well. Here is our next point of importance"
Gavriel glances into the datafont to try and figure out where they 'were' right now- and looks away again, almost immediately. Not without time for rigorous analysis and pots and pots of coffee, he's not.
Jack: "? It's just like looking at a map or schematics."
Jnezdie 'hops' across over to Tinkerbell, doing a few squats at the end.
Jnezdie: "Somethin' like that, yeah."
In your screens, there are directions (in whichever way you best understand) towards what is reffered to as "Dream Pillars" . Tinkerbell nods "In a way, although I had to leave it for you to learn yourselves since there is something to it related to your personal perception"
Jnezdie: "Like cheatin' at a hedgemaze."
JayM: Hrm…
JayM rolled 1d100 and got 31 ( Total: 31 )
Argent isn't going to try too much at figuring out the physical pathways. Head pain isn't that desirable right now
JayM: Hrm… This is… Interesting- Gavriel you're MOSTLY in the general vincinity of the southeast where Trassin should be-
JayM: You movements are, in the physical paths, erratic and go through completely unrelated directions, jumping wildly before reaching the destination, however, so there's only a wide general area you can pinping as you being
Tinkerbell takes a deep breath "Very well. We will need to have to move through designated sub-router stations, but given our current position we need an initial point that I have given you, let us go"
Gavriel nods, ready for whatever's next.
Jack: "Alrighty then."
Argent nods
Jnezdie sniffs, giving his screen a once over for directions to the Dream Pillars- there's a lot of movement involved, jumping, climbing, running… as it translates to Jnezdie.
Jnezdie: "Heh, okay!"
As you forge your way forward, you see- Something, zipping by insanely fast. And rarely now and then you see another. As you travel at a stead but sufficiently fast pace yo ustart seeing those more often. They move far too fast for you to notice what they actually are, until you predict one's approach and pay attention. A boxy, bird-like creature, formed of four main body segments (center,
JayM: right claw, left claw and head) connected by energy lines. It appears to be carrying a box
Argent: "Oi, Tinkerbell. That thing qualify as a threat?"
TB: "No, those are simple data packets, travelling packets of information"
Jnezdie: "Jeez. He's goin' somewhere in a hurry."
TB: "I would suggest avoiding the purple ones, Pings of Death are sometimes issued here for some reason and they are vastly annoying"
Jnezdie: "Gotcha."
Argent: "Got it." Argent keeps on her way. "Anything else here we should watch for?"
Gavriel raises an eyebrow.
You see in the distance a shining light, but then you hear nearby an odd sound, an electronic beeping sound. Something in Gavriel's nerves triggers his reflexes and he jumps aside. Facing you is another strange being… Somewhat doglike, boxy and slender, it has an exceedingly long tail, upwards of three meters of tail curling around and above it "… Those. Cyber-warfare agents from
JayM: Balmung. Given that Balmung is disconnected from Phoenix, they have lost their IFF code. They are a nuisance, as they will remove you from the current area, but due to your nature you cannot be truly damaged by them "
Jack: "Ahah."
It leaps to the side, and whips it's tail around, in a swift motion striking Jnezdie, Jack and Argent, and all three vanish
Argent: "Hm. A problem nevertheless; time's something we-SHI"
JayM: And it beeps at Gavriel and jumps on him- And he vanishes
And you all four find yourselves back a distance, a good distance away "Well… Like that"
TB: "We will need to avoid them, and they patrol the routes between different Dream Pillars"
Gavriel starts snarling and barking at it, just on reflex!
JayM: And that will be a Stealth [TN 4] check
Jack: "Duly noted!"
Jnezdie: "Dang, if only I had like… an information sword."
At the mention of a blade… Jnezdie notices something
Argent: "Patrol avoidance? Leave it to me. Though I'm surprised I couldn't just punch the crap out of it." [Trick:Scoundrel]
Gavriel quiets down soon enough, though- and gives the party pointers on how to infiltrate the system. [Lucky] [Finesse] [Weighted Results] [Trick]
Jnezdie notices on his back an… Ethereal, translucent and ghostly cloak, build of silver clockwork, on his back
Jack‘ rolled d12 and got 9 ( Total: 9 )
Also rolled 2d6 and got 3, 2 [Total: 5 (Low), Avg: 2.50]
Also rolled 2#2d8(1) and got 7, 5 [Total: 12 (High), Avg: 6.00]
Jnezdie: "Cloak a’int exactly what I'm lookin' for," he remarks, -to the cloak-, ", but hey, looks pretty sweet.
Also rolled 2#2d8(2) and got 8, 4 [Total: 12 (High), Avg: 6.00]
d8: 7 [Total: 7 (High), Avg: 7.00]
d6: 4 [Total: 4 (High), Avg: 4.00]
Total: 49, Avg: 5.44
Sneaking around the guardians is easy "… They appear to have cyber-warfare skills compatible with nova-terrans" the notebook is writing on itself again "Their processing capacity appears to multiply exponentially when temporarily networked, even with the dissonance element…"
As you sneak, you finally reach an are that is… Pretty much rid of guardians. Here you find… A human man, floating in the air in the center of a pillar of light. The pillar is actually not formed of light, but images, which you can only see those on the far side… Images of a dream which the man has… Does not takes much to know this is an unfaithful man dreaming of his mistress
JayM: (and about to have a nightmare about being discovered)
JayM: And you also notice something, as you get close to this Dream Pillar as Tinkerbell says, it starts becoming harder and harder to make your ow path, until it's plain impossible. Nearby it, only the path built by the pillar is accepted
Jnezdie view the man's dream, unashamedly. "Uh… huh. I better not disturb this guy, better or worse."
Jack‘ shakes his head.
Jnezdie continues on, and is slightly disappointed when it gets harder, harder, and impossible to find his own paths. :( Reluctantly, he steps onto the path built by the pillar.
Jack: "Well, now what?"
Gavriel growls under his breath, soldiering on. "…what are these pillars, anyway?"
Jnezdie: "And what the heck was an IFF code, anyway?"
You then notice things around you… Humanoid, robed ’beings', faceless. They scurry about, writing with agile hands, looking at the dream, analyzing it
TB: "IFF stands for Identify Friend Foe, a code to recognize your allies"
Jnezdie: "Ah."
Argent: "…Tch. So much for this…so what's the big deal with these dream pillars again?"
TB: "From here, we will need to reach the closest Local Router, and from there proceed to follow the path towards the Ultima Sector, figure out how to reroute the logical path, and from the Ultima Sector we can travel towards the Phoenix Sector, wheren your bodies are"
Jnezdie shrugs his shoulders, trying to make the ethereal cloak fall around him. He's not sure if he needs to hide from these beings or not, eying them suspiciously.
TB: "All of you, all of your minds, are connected to eachother towards the Angelic Blight"
TB: "While you remain individual, the individuality of yourselves is tantamount to your survival, you can still share… The basest information, dreams, with eachother"
TB: "This potential remains untapped, mostly, but whenever Phoenix and the Pillars require additional processing power, they appeal to you. They inject tiny unobstrusive additions to your dreams, wheren they run their projections and calculation, utilizing you as secondary processors"
Argent: "…That second bit? About dream sharing? Not a comforting thought. At all."
Jnezdie: "Ah. Makes sense, given what Phoenix told us about how she likes us dreamin' and stuff."
Jnezdie: "And how it's good to sleep and all."
TB: "Do not worry, you do not do it instinctively, it would require effort on your part. Plus, by instinct if you ever even suspect there is a 'stranger' within your dreams, you will immediately remove all outside sources from your dream, and seal it against intrusion until you sleep again"
Jack: "Ahah."
Gavriel shrugs. "Looking at it the wrong way. It's more like breaking down a complicated mathematical calculation and giving it to a roomful of workers than anything you're thinking of, Argent." He continues, tromping onwards.
TB: "Indeed, within every dream is a tiny assistance to making this world work"
TB: "You are perfectly correct, Gavriel"
Argent breathes a small sigh of relief, continuing onward.
[OOC] JayM: Oh, right
[OOC] JayM: +1006 XP/+2 AP] [+1105 XP/+3 AP
As you progress, you need to travel through different Dream Pillars to find a way. And there are many dreams, different people, men, women and child, all races, all countries. Perhaps you meet a known person or two, and see them dreaming within a pillar as well
Interesting, though, are those humanoid beings, taking notes and studying every dream, every little aspect, communicating in weird noises and beeps
Until you reach… A different Dream Pillar. While other Dream Pillars had a single pathway going through it, this one has a hundred, a numberless amount of pathways with connect to it, forming a sort of hub. And one pathway in particular, the only one that you saw up to now that goes up (you've never moved in the Z axis here yet), spiralling towards…
Up there, the pathway is broken, shattered into a million pieces, and it connects to… It's the floating image of a titanic book, violet cover
JayM: And interesting, the Dream Pillar which has a lot of connections that youa re on right now, is owned by a Viera
Jack: "Interesting."
Argent: "…The hell is this? Nothing like the others we went through before, that's for sure."
Gavriel: "…hn."
TB: "Essentially, those connections cannot reach very long physical ranges, so they need places where they all converge, are reorganized and then sent forward"
TB: "Like a crossroads"
Argent: "I see."
TB: "Those are called 'router stations', and this one" Tinkerbell points to the upwards path "That, is the primary router station which connects such paths. Above it, it's the Pillar Savant Storyteller, which is disconnected from the network"
Tinkerbell points to the dreamer "This… Due to the Viera's unique abilities, they function as secondary router stations, gathering the connection lines of the nearby dreams and redirecting and organizing them
About this time, something slightly heavy, like a person, has clinged to Jnezdie's left arm
Jnezdie: "Yo?" He turns to look, reaching with his right hand.
Jnezdie's hand reaches to- Pat directly on the head of… Himself. Or rather, a person that is perfectly himself! Except it's earing the same robes as those faceless beings. The other Jnezdie looks intently at the real one like a small kid that wants something
Jnezdie: "…yo."
Jnezdie: "Hi, I'm… Jnezdie?"
Moving unsurely behind it, almost like scared animals, are three others. They, in fact, are such perfect copies of the party. With the exception they look… Innocent, their behaviour and positioning are like kids
The other one tilts it's head, in a questioning move, letting go, looking at the real one expectantly
Jnezdie: "Uh, Tink? What's up with this?"
Jack: "How strange!"
Argent: "…Okay, the hell is this, Tinkerbell?"
TB: "Well… Every machine needs a 'program' to operate it, at least those which are operated by thinking machines like Phoenix is"
TB: "Remember how Phoenix attempted to rebuild your bodies? It appears that… Phoenix expected the need of such a 'program' as well, to ensure your body functions properly"
TB: "And was mistaken in the need of it"
Gavriel tilts his head to the side.
Tinkerbell seems to be thinking for a while
The other Gavriel walks up meekly to the real one, looking at him closer, expectant
Jnezdie: "Well, here we are. I'm kinda quiet, though."
Jnezdie: "Not me, the other me."
TB: "Hrm… They… Have only one function, to operate your bodies. But that is not needed, so they have no function"
Jnezdie: "Aw, I'm sure I can figure out -somethin'- to do around this place."
TB: "As programs with no function, they do not have a reason to exist, so they, ordinarily 'don't exist'. They are still, in technicaly wrong words, physically there, but spiritually dead"
TB: "I am trying to discern why they are here and active right now, give me a moment"
Jnezdie: "Oh, I'm sure there's something I can give myself to do." He turns to the other Jnezdie. "Hey, me. Have you seen the Heir around?"
Jack‘ scratches at the side of his face. This place is odd.
TB: "Ah… That… Appears to be the actual case. It seems like your presence in the Outer Dreamworld has stirred them, and they come seeking for a function"
The other Jack creeps closer slightly
Jnezdie: "If not, you should totally look for him, while he’s sleepin' or something… then again, what if he doesn't sleep? Anyway, meet me in a dream, and tell me where he is. So I- we, we can beat him up."
Argent: "…So they're looking to us to give them a function when we can't do that at all."
Jnezdie: "(Man, I hope he hasn't figured out that he doesn't have to sleep.)"
Gavriel armcrosses at his other self. "Don't look so meek. If you're a copy of me, you're a Gurutz, you're a hunter too!" He head-gestures in Jnezdie's direction. "What he said."
The other Jnezdie seems to not know what you mean by who the Heir is. At Jnezdie's words, he smiles
Jack: "Well. If they don't have anything better to do they could try building more pathways?"
The two- Both the other Jnezdie and other Gavriel suddenly stand tall, a certain look of decisiveness in their eyes. To Gavriel, a salute, to Jnezdie, he knows it's a high-five. Afterwards, both of them literally bolt, vanishing at a blazing speed
Jnezdie: "Ah well. I'd tell you what he looks like, except the last thing I want to be doin' is dreaming about him. Hey, maybe Antara-"
Jnezdie: "…okay then! Looks like I got the message."
TB: "Well… They're basically machines. If they're not given a function, they will not seek out one. You build a tool with a function, you do not build a tool to look for an unspecified function"
Jnezdie smiles, crossing his arms.
Gavriel: "…hn. That's more like it."
Argent's other self looks… at her real self expectantly…
Argent armcrosses, looking sidelong at her duplicate. "Tch. No matter how much it resembles me, that isn't me." before addressing it. "Hey, you. You better make sure I'm not atrophying in bed while this is going on."
The other self blinks, standing stright. She bows respectfully, and and moves quickly- Vanishing rapidly as well!
TB: "Well- As soon as you are done, the pathway that needs reconstruction is nearby. The physical path has been destroyed, but though me Sarah can assist in bypassing that, but it will require logical rerouting… It will require all of your four's processing power"
Jnezdie: "Huh? Oh. Yeah, sure thing. It was a weird interlude, yeah?"
Argent: "Well, let's get to it then."
Jnezdie: "Jack, tell yourself to do somethin'! It's pretty great."
Jnezdie: "Then again you did, so…"
Jnezdie: "Ah whatever."
Jack: "I already did!"
Jnezdie: "I missed it, oops!"
The other Jack looks at Jnezdie, looks at the real Jack- It appears that it's own thought processes were far too limited for it to imply the meaning out of that! It nods to Jack, and darts off
Jnezdie: "Okay Tink, back to work."
Tinkerbell nods "Very well" she directs you towards… It's like a solid wall of blackness. It doesn't have a pattern, or anything, it's simple sheer blackness, the 'end of existance' as it were
TB: "That is what we need to fix" the solid black wall expands infinitely in both directions "We need to reroute the logical pathways through Sarah's and Re'Sheran's QEC, through his assistance's dreamworld and towards the next zone"
Argent: "…I see."
JayM: Except… Do you know the way you've been building pathways? Yeah… Suddenly all the information you're getting is going back to it's random scrambled state
Jack‘ scractehs his head. "Not sure how!"
Tinkerbell thinks for a moment "Hrm… I have a proposal"
Argent: "…kgh…"
TB: "I can adjust the GUI somewhat and alter the translation systems, what you will see is not reality, nor are your actions even remotely equivalent to what you are truly doing. However, it should be a sufficient fit to get your brains to follow the correct procedures"
TB: "I am limited in what alterations I can make, and the most suitable would be the game’s combat system, would you be willing to do that?"
Jnezdie: "Now we're talkin'."
Jnezdie: "Gimme a good sword, yeah?"
Gavriel chuckles, under his breath. "Just give me something to aim at."
Argent: "…I presume it works close enough to real combat."
TB: "Very well, steel your senses, this is based off a game, so presentation might be a little unusual"
Jack: "Noted!"
Jnezdie: "'s got a scoreboard or something, like for soccer?"
Jnezdie: "Whatever, I'm ready for it!"
Suddenly, swirly battle transition, literally. You are no longer i nthe place where you were, but instead in a two-colored field. Below you panels colored blue and below the other side, panels colored red. On those panels there is a… Humanoid image, holding a katana. Two strange floating spheres of darkness and a 'thing' made of stone, humanoid, that is jittering and rubberbanding
JayM: around like crazy
JayM: Battle order: Gavriel [B]:0 Unknown Problem [F]:1 Argent [F]:2 Jack [B]:3 Jnezdie [F]:5 Lagged Connection A [B]:8 Time-Synch Issue A [B]:8 Time-Synch Issue B [B]:8
On the right side of your view, a list, containing an 'initiative order'
JayM: (it's got neat little images of you all and all that stuff)
Jnezdie: "Whoa-ho ho!"
JayM: The spheres are 'Time-Synch Issue', the stone golem is the 'Lagged Connection' and the humanoid black thing is the 'Unknown Problem'
Argent: "…Well then. Let's just beat the crap out of them and get this done with, no?"
Jack‘ scratches at the side of his face. "Ahah. So, we take turns performing actions one at a time then…?"
JayM: Gavriel!
Jnezdie: "Kinda like a board game?"
Jnezdie: "But with fighting!"
Argent: "Is this really what Re’sheran thinks of combat?"
Tinkerbell's voice is heard, even though she is not "Technically, yes. You and your enemies take turns acting, one action each. Your action determins the delay until next time"
Gavriel frowns. That's not at all how battles work! But okay, he can roll with this- he sights along his rifle, menacingly! [Wide Scan D29]
Jack: "I see!"
TB: "No, this is a game, Argent, meant to be fun and not simulate reality. This style in particular is called Turn-based RPG, to simulate combat in a suffucient manner for the game. You would likely prefer an action-based game"
Gavriel stares at his foes through the sights- And suddenly information appears before him! And above the foes bars with names and a 'health bar' appear over them.
Lagged Connection: Level 23 Normal Mook - HP: 1400, MP: 165 - It's a bad connection, it feels as if things are one way only to suddenly be entirely different, you think you might be at range but you're in melee, you might think you can hit it with your fist but it's already way too far away, sometimes you won't even move because of it. [Accuracy I]
Time-synch Issue: Level 23 Normal Mook - HP: 1704, MP: 280 - The time here and in the server are different and this is the problem behind this. It causes things to fall out of synchrony and at times the server has prioirity or the client has prioirity so it might do strange things like make things that happen suddenly not happen or things happen a lot faster [Humanoid]
Unknown Problem: Level 23 Normal M.Boss - HP: 3408, MP: 234 - I: Eject - Truthfully an unknown problem, wth is up with this? [Evasion I]
The Unknown Problem opens up by jumping and- Vanishing [Jump]
JayM: Argent!
Argent: "Alright then, let's see how well this translates to a 'turn-based RPG'…" and Argent cracks her knuckles, before rushing up and firing a pair of kicks at the Lagged Connection [Pummel, 31D]
JayM: Argent somehow your strikes have a lot more weight and movement and flair to them (more than you ACTUALLY put, even so)

TB: "Believe me, that is far more aggravating on my end. Have you any idea how much time we already lost?"
Gavriel lowers his rifle- peers, swinging his hand in front of his face, frowning at the ghosting, at the lag, at the deteriorating image quality. That isn't normal at all.
Jnezdie: "Not a clue! Should be interesting when we get outta here."
Argent looks over the enemies, checking to see if any are sufficiently weakened…before aiming another strike at the Unknown Problem. "You think? Were this a normal fight, we would've been done in a third of the time!" [Scourge, 25D]

Jnezdie unexplicably starts snickering.

Argent then leaps forward in a somersault, back in a similar one…and then leaps into the air as a cut-in of her face suddenly appears…
Argent: And completely disconnected from actual movement of her mouth or intent to speak. "FINISHER! ULTIMATE…MAGNUM KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICK-!" as she executes a flying kick downward through the enemy, skidding past as text suddenly appears-and then the target erupts in a column of explosions. This would have been supremely badass…
Argent: …if it weren't for the fact that the voice seemed to crack three ways during the yell
JayM: (roll damage, missus)

[OOC] JayM: Victory!
Jack: "Huzzah!"
Victory theme plays
Jnezdie very quickly twirls his broadsword in front of him, then mock sheathes it across his back.
TB: "Hrm… Outside inteference, as expected."
JayM: Interesting, Jnezdie, it sheathes just fine
Jnezdie lets go then! It'll be handy to just grab it off his back.
And the battle screen darknes… And you're back into 'normal' space afterwards
Argent: "…"
Argent: "…After that, I need a drink."
JayM rolled 4d100 and got 53, 84, 50, 4 ( Total: 191 ) **
Gavriel spins his rifle in the sort of move nobody would ever actually really do, half-grins- takes a deep breath, as his connection stabilises, and the lag dissipates. "…hn."
Gavriel: "…troubleshooting."
Jack: "I get it! Gahahaha."
Found within the remains of the smoke left by the Unknown Problem, it's a large stake-like device attached to a metallic box [Gravity Impact Driver, T1 Accessory, Relic, Elder, Causes damage with Jump as if with spear]
Jnezdie stares at gavriel.
Jnezdie: "Bahahahah!"
Jnezdie: "That's good. You gotta use that one once we get outta the dream world."
Gavriel gives the slightest of nods to Jack and Jnezdie.
Argent: "…Hm. While I doubt the need for the flash…high-altitude strikes do have some merit."
Argent: "…I am definitely not screaming like that ever, though."
Jack: "No objection!"
Jnezdie: "You don't use that octave often, no."
[OOC] JayM: +5800 XP/+4600 Gil/+18 AP
Argent: "…I didn't even open my mouth or anything of the such."
Jnezdie pounds a fist into a palm.
Jnezdie: "That fight sure was somethin' though."
Jnezdie: "After watchin' you beat that sucker down?"
TB: "I am sorry for that" she walks in from behind you "That was… One of Re'Sheran's favorite attacks, the scream also being a part, mostly for comedic effect"
Jnezdie: "I think it's time for a whole new chapter of pain." [Licence Change: Mystic Knight -> Fighter]
TB: "Regardless, Sarah says to keep hold of what you have found, she believes she can synthetize it once you awaken"
Gavriel raises an eyebrow, nods.
[OOC] Jnezdie: SPD 6 -> 8
Argent: "…Right then."
TB: "… Now we will be ongoing a change in sector, towards Ultima Sector"
Jnezdie: "Yo, can I get like, some tonics or something?"
TB: "Essentially, this following portion of the Outer Dreamworld is physically nested in the Alkasha, so it is vastly limited"
Jnezdie: "(Does that even work here?)"
Argent: "…Eh, try it. It might not even use it, really."
Tinkerbell dakes a breath… "An equivalency, worry not"
Argent: "I see."
Jnezdie: "I'll give it a shot!"
Tinkerbell points forward, and now instead of the black wall there is a rainbow-colored bridge "Now we follow this"
Argent: "…Eh, why the hell not." Argent rummages for a potion herself.
