Etherside 2 //
[OOC] Galen: Sounds about right, yeah.
The sun is starting to shine as the party is awaken by the distant morning cries of birds. They are at camp, having fixed the last rift pocket and now moving on to a place nearby the Crystal Palace, where they've been told that the Rift Guards have set up a new base while people deal with the pockets
JayM: //One certain party member is sure to have had a strange night //
Galen didn't sleep that well, actually. He is looking over a strange black feather, looking at it closely.
Kaori glances over at Galen ad the feather, curious, but respects his privacy enough not to ask about it as she helps pack up camp.
Galen will put the feather away before starting to head to camp. He'll only speak when everyone else is finished getting ready. "We… we might be in more trouble than we thought."
Kaori turns to regard Galen. "What do you mean?"
EHShimberley: "You're assuming all of us thought we were in the same amount of trouble."
She lifts up her pack.
Galen: "That feather I have? I ended up getting it last night, as part of a very strange event… I met part of something called the Eden Strike Force."
Galen: "And apparently… while the one I met was okay, the others are… kind of hunting Rift Guards."
Kaori frowns. "Why would they do that?"
EHShimberley: "The possibility was mentioned in my contract."
Galen: "Apparently guards have destroyed five of their siege tanks. As for why… they blame Tiamat for destorying their home."
Galen: "Millennia ago."
Galen: "The one I met claimed the Edenians made break arts as a weapon against Tiamat and… uh, what they called her war machines."
EHShimberley: "The destruction of Eden. How compelling."
Kaori: "It seems that long memory does not make for a forgiving disposition. Did your aqcuaintance mention where we might find more of this strike force?"
Galen: "No. He just warned me to be careful."
Galen: "They were travelling in… the X-Zone, I think he called it?"
Galen: "Sort of like the stuff in between, maybe. I honestly don't get it."
EHShimberley: "A dangerous place to travel in."
Kaori: "If other guards have been fighting them, I hope that means we're not the only ones who are aware of them. Though what we can do, other than heed that warning, I'm not sure."
Galen: "Yeah…"
EHShimberley: "Well."
EHShimberley strokes her chin. "We could destroy their other siege tanks."
Galen: "And in the process, start an inter-dimensional war that'd hurt a lot of people. PRobably a lot of innocent people."
Kaori: "I may be wrong, but it seems to me as though they mean to start a war anyway."
Galen sighs. "They do, but I'd still rather avoid it if at all possible, and not try to attack them if we can help it."
Kaori pauses for a moment, then nods slowly in agreement. "Never the aggressor, if it can be helped."
EHShimberley: "I'm not certain what can be done with tanks that doesn't end in war, but very well."
About now a small glowing orb with fluttering wings comes by you, it's carrying a letter. If your trusty Sylph were here she'd recognize this as part of her hometown's wildlife. Apparently it's a messanger
It drops the letter by and flutters off
Kaori: "…hm."
Kaori picks the letter up and opens it curiously.
The letter is a message from the Rift Guards, telling of a new base, about a day northwards of here, and telling that once your assignments are done to gather there
Kaori shows the letter to the others. "I think we've done what we were sent to do, haven't we?"
EHShimberley nods. "More or less."
Galen: "I think so…"
Kaori: "Then I say we head for the base. And keep a wary eye out for the Eden Strike Force."
Galen: "Yeah…"
EHShimberley: "Certainly."
Kaori nods, calls for Isamu, then heads North.
Galen follows.
EHShimberley grips her staff tightly and walks along with the rest.
It's a long, but thankfully uneventful travel. A bit tiresome, perhaps. You finally reach the base at the foot of the mountains, it's set against a cliff wall and it's the best description of makeshift, it was probably whipped up in a few days, mostly by cleverly using spare parts from mechanical Aeons. It's sturdu, though, and spacious so it works.
Two dozen Rift Guards have gathered around and are either resting to preparing to leave. It appears that you were not the only ones hunting rift pockets here. You're greeted and given some time to rest before your party is assembled once again before going for a briefing
Galen will be glad for the rest.
The one who'll be briefing you is an old Fenrir, fur now greyed out. He looks you over "I've been hearing good things of you" it's in non-ES, thankfully
Fenrir: "How've your tasks been?"
EHShimberley: "Hmm."
EHShimberley: "Different than I expected, given."
Galen: "A lot of unusual stuff going around, yes."
EHShimberley: "I'm sure you're well aware that many of the rifts are being forced."
EHShimberley: "That they're occasionally reversible is… unusual."
Fenrir: "Hrm… It's worrysome, it's what it is. Seems like something wants to keep those open"
Kaori: "Have there been any leads as to who or what that might be?"
[OOC] Kaori: Other than maybe the Eden Strike Force. XD
Fenrir: "There have been sighting of hooded individuals, mostly humans. A few have been captured and speak of awakening the sleeping blood of the people brought through the rift"
Galen: "…the cult, it seems. Damn it."
Fenrir: "We might have a little better lead this time, however, which is something I wanted you to investigate"
EHShimberley: "The sleeping bond…"
Fenrir: "Generally, the Rift brings things to our world, but this time, seems like something of our world has slipped elsewhere"
EHShimberley: "…Is that so?"
Fenrir: "Yes, near the Rift there was a town. We've reports that it simply… Vanished. I don't know why but it seems like one concerned Doomtrain went to investigate, and came to the conclusion is slipped into another world. It's the first time the transport goes reverse, so we want you to check it out"
Kaori bows. "It will be done."
Galen nods. "Absolutely."
EHShimberley nods.
Fenrir: "Good. When you're read to leave, Leslos will be ready to take you there. He's an Atomos that is somewhere around here, he and his brother work in a pair as a gateway, his brother is already stationed as close as safely possible to the village's location"
Fenrir: "By the way. I haven't gone outside of Etherside on my own before, but I hear it's a jarring experience. Be ready"
EHShimberley: "Travelling through an Atomos?"
EHShimberley: "Should be interesting."
Galen: "Yeah, I guess…"
JayM: //Anything you feel like doing before departing? //
Kaori: "I've never done it before either."
She turns to the Fenrir and bows again. "Thank you. Peace and health to you."
EHShimberley: "The sleeping blood of those brought through the rift…"
EHShimberley smiles to herself. "I suppose there's only one line which can stretch across borders."
Galen is just going to make sure his stuff together, all of his other feathers are placed in a special spot, so nothing will float away during transport.
Galen: "I still don't understand the 'sleeping blood' thing, though. I mean, from all I've seen, they're taking stuff apart and putting it all back together again."
Kaori shakes her head. "I don't understand it either."
[OOC] Kaori: I'm ready to go.
EHShimberley smiles inscrutably. "It is strange, isn't it?"
Galen: "Maybe we'll be able to find out, soon…"
After you're all set, you get the unsettling experience of willingly stepping into the giant maw of an Atomos, towards the void. For a moment seems like you're being compressed, and like it wasn't a good idea to do that, but then the sensation relieves itself and you see yourselves elsewhere, a bit disoriented. Stepping out of Leslos's brother you find yourself in another room, this one belonging to a small shack, a small camp of four people, this Atomos and three others
Galen shakes his head, trying to get rid of that feeling.
You're greeted by a very serious-looking Carbunkle. This one, different from the others, is wearing a belt, in which two swords (a shortsword and a katana) are kept. He looks at you, you're not sure what to think but he's at least being sincere about being serious "I see you've arrived"
Galen: "Yeah. That was… honestly, that was really wierd."
EHShimberley: "I must say, I'm not looking forward to the return trip."
Carbunkle: "It's unsettling yes. Still, seems like you're what i've got to work with"
he looks at the group "Tell me who you all are and what you can do and we can move on"
Kaori bows. "Mai Kaori, swordswoman."
EHShimberley: "EH Shimberley. Consultant."
Galen: "Galen Anatolius, healer."
Romus: "Romus, swordsman"
he heads out "Come""
He takes you outside, and points over to what looks like a displaced patch of terrain, this area is mostly plains, however, the area he points out is barren, the soil is slightly black and it's muddy "That's the place"
JayM: //It's a few minutes to get there, you're not that far //
EHShimberley paces gently forward.
EHShimberley: "What was it, I must ask?"
Romus starts walking calmly "A Kjata farming town. They were a bit of a frontier town, trying to see if their kind could live away from the crystal clouds. Before the Rift came to be, of course"
EHShimberley: "Hmm."
Romus stops you on you're a few steps from the line of barren soil "A warning"
Galen will stop right before the line, then.
Romus: "Aeons can't live in other worlds without a summoner to maintain their existance. However, what happens when we walk elsewhere is that we change, to something close to us but that can live in the world"
Kaori frowns.
Romus: "It's a jarring change for most"
he looks at the party "But I don't think any of you would have a problem"
Galen: "And espers?"
Romus: "Espers don't change. Their non-Aeon half maintains the Aeon half"
Galen: "I see…"
Galen sighs to himself a bit.
EHShimberley: "Strange. I wonder if I did the same?"
Romus: "Who knows, this is a world of mysteries, though we certainly don't have them all"
Romus steps into the barren land, and for a moment nothing seems to happen, but as he walks further, it seems he gets infinitely distant, until he vanishes
Kaori hesitates for only a moment, before squaring her shoulders and following.
EHShimberley walks gently on.
Galen will follow the other two closely.
As you step into it, you don't feel anything particular until you start heading deeper in, that's when at a point everything simply vanishers, you feel as if there was no air around you, and you feel the ground vanish, but you somehow keep walking forward. Even if you hesitate, you do, because something compels you to, like a vacuum dragging you in. You finally step out of the nowhere you once where, and see yourselves stepping out of a dark alley into a busy road
Galen blinks. "I'll be honest, I liked that more than the Atomos trip."
This is a very large city, I tell you. The buildings are tall, to the point you can't see the sky, there are many of them, this ends up looking almost like a futuristic setting if not for the fact that everything looks more like buildings from modern times
EHShimberley: "Remind you of home?"
Galen gives out a low whistle. "Big city. And… kind of, yeah."
JayM: //None of you feel any difference, except for Kaori who for a few moments feels strange inside, as if her guts were twisting, it's unsettling. After that she feels a lot more… Suited. That is to say that she somehow is wearing a suit now, her blades hidden //
Kaori immediately takes a step back from the curb, then looks up, up, at the buildings, frowning at them before looking down at herself. "…I do not like this attire."
Galen makes sure his feathers are hidden.
Kaori shrugs uncomfortably, lookig arond for Isamu.
EHShimberley: "Are you alright?"
Isamu too seems changed, a rather large white dog, with a blue tongue, even
Kaori: "I… seem to be unhurt."
Kaori reaches out to touch Isamu's fur, reassuring herself.
Waiting at the exit of the alley is a teenager human, rather short, spiked hair and clothes befitting a rebel spirit. A katana and a shortsword in his belt telling who he should be "That's the attire those of your profession wear in this place"
JayM: //It still feels the same, despite looking different Kaori //
EHShimberley: "It is, yes."
Kaori: "Those of my profession?"
EHShimberley: "Swordswomen."
EHShimberley: "You might discover new tattoos, too."
Romus: "Exactly. Take a moment to acquaint yourself to your surroundings"
Kaori looks down at the suit again. "…this must be a very-" she goes kinda wide-eyed and lifts up the edge of her jeacket to check for those tattoos.
Suddenly something stumbles through the dark alley, landing on Shimberley like a sack of bricks. It's a young human girl, wearing what you'd call the newest in pop fashion, she's also rather short, and her sight excessively green
[OOC] EHShimberley: sight?
JayM: //Saffron might be a fair bit startled at her excessive largeness //
JayM: //I mean she's wearing a lot of green, and it's also very flashy //
[OOC] EHShimberley: Ah, I see.
EHShimberley pushes her up to her feet.
EHShimberley: "Sorry. My cap's a bit small for you now."
JayM: //The glaive in her back, which makes her look like a character who came out of an anime, tells the tale of who she is //
Saffron just sort of lays there for a few seconds after letting out a yelp. Then blinks a few times. "Woah! Why is it so hard to fly?"
Galen blinks at Saffron. He should have expected that, but… wow.
Kaori smooths her jacket after assuring herself that she doesn't have any tattoos at all. "…hello, Saffron."
EHShimberley: "Mortal air is heavy."
Galen: "You, uh, don't have wings here, Saffron. Here, look up. You're a lot taller, too."
Saffron pushes herself up into a sitting position, scrunches up her face, then blinks and lokos behind her, only to see a pink backback with tiny little fabric wings attatched to it. "… That is SO WEIRD! And everyone looks smaller! Where are we anyways?"
Kaori: "I don't know."
Galen: "Some modern world. Here, I'll be sticking out the most of anyone here."
Galen frowns. "Wish I still had my old wig."
Galen: "Too bad it burnt up like it did."
A woman wearing what can only be called a soldier's outfit walks from the other side of the street to where you are. She is carrying a rather large bag which looks suspiciously long "We're in a world called-" Romus begins talking before the woman interrupts him "Arianos, a world taken over by the modern human settlements, where nature only exists where the humans allow it to" Romus looks up at her, hands already in his blades
Saffron reaches up, then after a few seconds pull the teal ribbon out of her hair. "You can use this if you want!"
Galen: "That… might work?"
The woman just smirks at him "Settle down, shorty, it's Eins" he blinks "Oh, hey. You're not blond anymore" she shakes her head "Not after that" she looks at Saffron "Welcome to the place I called home for a few years, if you need any guidance…"
Saffron pushes herself up, then akwardly balances herself on her legs. There's a lot of wobbling as she hads the ribbon to Galen.
EHShimberley: "Guidance…"
Saffron: "Oh, neat, Ms. Whoeveryouare!"
Galen will take it, and try to use it to hide as many hair feathers as he can.
EHShimberley: "Has the village been found yet?"
Eins: "You're in it. It's been, how to place it, absorbed by the local scenery""
Galen: "And the people, too?"
Kaori blinks. "Then…. the Kjata are-" she nods to Galen.
Eins: "Basically, the buildings have merged with the others here, the people are all… Well, let's say that they are imprisioned, one way or another""
Saffron looks around the alley. "It's kinda… cramped for a village, isn't it? I mean, even I don't fit in that well!"
Eins: "Most of them closed themselves home, but the ones that tried setting out the explore ended up getting arrested. It just… Happens if you're not careful"
Kaori: "…arrested?"
Eins: "Doesn't surprises you can't recognize me, Saffron"
she smiles "By the way, be careful when calling your sisters here, it will be more draining on you than you expect"
Saffron: "I think that's like when we beat up people that are jerks!"
Saffron blinks. "Wait, I know you? Huh, this place is weird! Maybe it's because everyone got small." She then pauses, presses her lips together, then blinks. "Will they not have wings too??"
EHShimberley: "How strange."
Eins: "Yes. Well, mostly none of them did anything serious at the start, but when you can't pay fines you go arrested, and resisting prision…"
Kaori clenches her fists, inuriated by the idea. "I know what 'arrested' means. We should find them and free them. They shouldn't be forced to stay in this… this loud, crowded, smelly place."
EHShimberley: "Has their magic made headlines yet?"
Eins: "Ah, they will, Saffron. Except, to stay in their normal forms they will have to drain on your energy, which is something you're not used to"
Saffron: "Oooooh."
Eins: "Not yet, but in two particular cases they've used their magic against the officers trying to arrest them. Nobody believed the officers, but this could be a problem"
Galen: "Yeah, it could be a huge problem."
Romus: "How the hell are you so informed, Eins? You've been out of here for more than a decade"
Saffron: "Maybe she asked!"
Saffron attempts to take a step, wobbles, then lets out a yelp and glings to Shimberly's arm. "Hrrrm, walking without wings is hard."
EHShimberley: "Well."
Kaori: "Isamu could carry you."
EHShimberley: "You have use of my arm for as long as you need it, but you're going to have to keep up."
Eins: "Oh, really. You'd think I've forgotten how to use the internet, shorty"
Saffron: "Also, also! Her name is pronounced "
eisen", Mr. Swordguy!"
Romus: "Stop that… And I forgot about that, yes"
Kaori: "The internet?"
Eisen: "Hehe, you finally got it. I went by Eins here, though. It'd be the death of me to use my real name"
Romus: "Don't try to understand, I know I don't"
Saffron headtilts.
Kaori: "…your real name?"
Kaori puts her hands up to her head, totally confused.
Saffron: "She's like me! But."
Glances down, then at Eisen, ""Bigger!"
Eisen: "Eh. Let's say I've done some work here that put bounties on my head. My name's Eisen, but I use the nickname Eins here"
Saffron: "Oh, okay."
Galen finally gets a glimmer of recognition on the "Eisen" name.
Galen thinks. Any of this city look familiar to him?
JayM: //It doesn't, sadly //
Galen frowns.
Eisen: "It isn't it, Galen. I've worked in five different worlds through my career"
EHShimberley walks out into the shining day.
Galen sighs. "…I see…"
The shining night, rather. The dark sky above you tells of the night, but you can see no moon. There are signs and shining billboards all over the place
JayM: //Forgive my misuse of words in last phrase //
Romus: "Still, our main objective here is to find out what happened to make the town come here, and why the gate is one-way"
Saffron is still kind of clinging to Shimberly as she walks on, and probably will be for a bit still. "Everything looks… dull. Soooo weeeeeird."
Kaori: "…one-way? We're stuck here?"
Romus: "If we can help the people who ended up here, better"
Romus: "No, we can ask Exxan for a trip back, but only after the mission is over"
Kaori breathes a small sigh of relief and keeps a hand in Isamu's fur as she follows Shimberley.
Saffron headtilts, lokoing at the skyline. "Dull but SHINEY."
Romus: "Eisen, any leads on our real mission here?"
Eisen: "Nope, twenty minutes in the net didn't take me too far, you know"
EHShimberley: "Are summoners known here?"
EHShimberley: "I have a… hunch."
Romus: "This isn't a world known for it's magic. It's generally practiced in secret, dark rituals and in secret societies. But there are two summoners known in this place"
Galen: "I guess that's where we'll have to start, then."
Romus: "Unsurprisingly… Their Aeons have been arrested in Etherside for crimes of murder and creation of gangs, so I don't think those summoners are going to be kind"
EHShimberley: "Secret magic is the most powerful magic, of course."
Saffron makes an ":o" face.
EHShimberley: "If you keep it locked up…"
She smiles faintly.
Kaori: "The people here like to make a habit of arresting, don't they?"
Romus: "I'd rather avoid getting anywhere near them if at all possible"
he looks at the party "You have only one human among you and the Aeons have no summoner of their own"
Galen blinks.
Saffron: "Okay!"
Romus: "It's take just a touch or maybe two words for the any but Shimberley to be taken by them… It's not nice to serve unwillingly"
Romus: "The police here isn't exactly the most kind type"
EHShimberley nods to Romus. "Some prefer it, however."
Romus: "I guess. But they should be our only leads…"
Romus: "If we're going about it this way, it will be all types of dangerous"
Romus: "At least I know their names, Rafaella and Jonas. I know they're both leaders of some sort of cult as well, but different ones. But that's as much as i've gleaned from the Aeons they are bound to"
Romus: "How do we go about it?"
EHShimberley: "Is one bound to Bismark?"
Kaori: "Perhaps, if we cannot speak with the summoners, we should find where the Kjata are being held so we may speak with them instead."
EHShimberley: "We should."
Romus: "Diablos and Bismark"
Galen: "Assuming the police let us."
EHShimberley: "Ah, of course."
Eisen tosses a cellphone to Shimberley "Teach Saffron how to use that, it's safer for her to call my aid than to summon her sisters, really. I'll see if I can find any information on my end, given any of my contacts are still alive" she says, waves, and leaves
Saffron: "Ms. Shimberly is good at asking the police for help~! Like last time!"
Saffron then makes a face, looking around as they walk. "Your trees are all very noisy here." She then blinks at the phone.
Kaori looks coldly ahead. "I was not thinking that these barbaric people should 'let' us do anything."
There are two numbers of fast dial, one named 'Eisen - Information' and another named 'Eins - Sniper'
EHShimberley flips the phone open and indicates the essentials with her spare hand. She speaks to Kaori-
EHShimberley: "This is not a barbaric place."
Romus: "Well, the arrested ones are in the police district nearby, at least the lay of the land I can help you with"
EHShimberley: "It's much like the one we came from. There are islands, thriving, sheltered from the storm, shining brightly."
EHShimberley: "All it is is that the savage wilds and the terrible monsters…"
Saffron blinks a fwe times as Shiimberly explains, eyes going wind and mumbling the words neat, cool and amazing over and over under her breath.
EHShimberley: "Are still streets, and still people."
Kaori: "I haven't seen anything to convince me otherwise. It's loud, crowded, dirty. People are detained against their will far too often, magic is a thing to be hidden and used for dark purposes."
EHShimberley: "Yes."
EHShimberley: "But for millions… it's home."
Kaori: "Unfortunately enough for them."
Saffron takes the phone eventually, and holds it up to Kaori. "This is kinda like magic!"
Romus guides you to the police district 112A. It's a pretty standard affair, there are a couple of police cars parked about and a bike. You arrive just in time to see an officer bringing two rather beat up guys, the officer also has a purple eye and his right arms has a hastly-patched cut. Coming out of the station is an old woman, teary-eyed
Kaori blinks at the phone. "…what is it?"
EHShimberley: "It's a cell."
EHShimberley: "In this world, people cannot bear to be apart."
Kaori: "It doesn't look like a place to hold someone prisoner."
Saffron: "Watch, watch!"
Saffron hits the speed dial for Eisen's number, then hits the speaker button and holds it up between herself and Kaori.
EHShimberley: "Sparks in the ether bind everyone inextricably together with their na-ka-ma."
Eisen's voice comes through it "Having fun, aren't you?"
Galen: "My home is a lot like this. Nobody knows magic exists, and if it weren't for what happened to people like me, I don't think it would have existed at all."
Kaori: "…"
EHShimberley: "Cast by the great spires, the energies humming through us even now are the threads of a vast, invisible web."
Saffron: "See, see! Soooo cool!"
EHShimberley watches the old woman carefully.
Kaori: "We just saw her. How does manage to…"
Saffron: "Magic!"
[OOC] Kaori: * How does she manage to
Galen: "By other means. Sort of."
Eisen: "I just know it works"
The old woman is crying but looks relieved
Kaori: "..Eins? That is you, right?"
Kaori speaks a little more loudly than she needs to. :/
Eisen: "Myself. We can use this to talk over long distances and try to keep your voice down, I keep the speaker right against my ear, you know?"
Galen will take a look at the old woman, but will go back to the other conversation when he sees Shimberley keeping a watch.
Saffron: "We have it away!"
Kaori frowns. "So, just to be sure, you're not being held prisoner in there, are you?"
Eisen: "Of course not"
Kaori: "Good."
EHShimberley: "Basically…"
EHShimberley: "What's going on is that the sound goes into there and is converted to a wave of energy which travels through the air to one of those towers-"
she points to one of the ever-present wire-laden towers up on the skyline.
EHShimberley: "It hums through the wires and, according to what number was dialled, it gets transmitted to another. It's basically… opening a doorway of sound."
EHShimberley: "They take pictures too, you know."
Saffron looks up, eyes still wide and in amazment. "… They can PAINT?!"
Galen: "It's basically a device to throw your voice really far. There's a lot more technology where that came from - like medicine."
EHShimberley: "There's no creativity."
Kaori looks up at the wires, narrowing her eyes at them. "There are kami in those. I suppose, given the transmutable nature of lightning spirits, this could make sense."
EHShimberley: "They simply take exactly what's there and send its light along the wires."
Saffron: "… Oh, oh, show me show me!"
Saffron hands it back to Shimberly.
EHShimberley flips the phone shut, holds it in her hand, and points it up at the sun, seen through a netting of wires overhead. Snap.
Kaori watches curiously.
EHShimberley: //She flips it open and the screen displays that image. //
Galen: "Let me give an example. Imagine what life would be like, never being able to get a cure spell. That's what medicine does - to cure people when they're hurt, using technology."
Saffron seems to be better on her feet now that she's not thinking about walking actively, practically bouncing on her toes in excitement.
EHShimberley: "If we had another, I could send it."
Galen will occasionally glance back at the old woman.
EHShimberley: "So I guess if you want Eisen's opinion on something, you could snap a photo and send it to her."
EHShimberley: "…However, be aware."
EHShimberley: "The stream of sound and light that passes through these wires is all too easy to dip a ladle into."
EHShimberley: "None of it can be called private."
Saffron snatches the phone back up a few seconds later, lokoing at the picture still on the screen, then shows it to Kaori, "That is… the best thing ever!!"
Kaori: "It's definitely impressive,"
she concedes reluctantly.
The old woman is going away, Galen. Prolly heading back home
Kaori: "…hm. I'm curious though. Can I use the cell to take a picture of you, Saffron?"
Galen: "…should we talk to that old woman?"
EHShimberley: "If you'd like."
Saffron: "Oh, oh!"
Saffron nods a lot, then hands it to Kaori.
EHShimberley: "Generally, in this society, you're supposed to ignore those on the streets and pay attention to the energy."
Kaori takes it, fumbles until she finds the button Shimberley pushed. Snap~
Saffron bouncing up and down, spinning ina cirle once or twice. She comments, as at after thought without turing to Galen, "What old lady?"
Kaori then studies the resulting picture.
Galen: "Maybe it'd be better to talk to the police…"
Galen sighs. "I dunno."
[OOC] Kaori: Basically, Kaori is wondering if the picture is of Saffron as she looks now, or as she's really supposed to look.
JayM: //As she looks now //
Kaori shows the picture to Saffron then, figuring she'd want to see it.
Saffron blinks a few dozen times, face scrunching up in thought. "That's what I look like?"
Kaori nods.
Saffron scunches up her face a little more, "… Cute!"
Kaori nods again and hands the phone back to her.
EHShimberley: "I'd say, yes."
Saffron takes it, then atfer a few seconds, pulls her backpack around and places the phone very carefully inside.
JayM: //So are you heading to the police station or wat? //
Kaori considers the police station for a moment or two, then shrugs and heads inside.
EHShimberley follows carefully after. For consulting purposes.
Saffron trails after Shimberly, still looking around at everything wideeyed as they go.
Galen also follows closely behind Saffron.
EHShimberley heads up to the front desk.
Inside it's… Busy. Seems like a rather rowdy person was taken here in recently as a chair is broken, but that aside there are just a lot of people coming here to report crimes that ocurred. One man is making a racket about wanting the police to find the guy that stole his car RIGHT THIS INSTANT
The front desk has a few scorch marks. There is a rather distressed clerk there, and a more level-headed one. The calm one looks over to Shimberley "Yes?"
EHShimberley: "Morning, sir."
Galen looks at the scorch marks.
Saffron pokes out form behind Shimberly and gives a friendly wave.
EHShimberley: "I'm with the herald-"
she taps her badge- "And I'm wondering if you could give comment on the series of arrests made a few days ago."
EHShimberley: "Is it true that none of the people so arrested had any forms of identification?"
Clerk: "It's true"
EHShimberley: "What's the status of your investigation?"
EHShimberley: "It's the current opinion of the editorial board that it looks like an immigration case."
Clerk: "Hardly, right now we're trying to find out who they are or if they have any relatives but they don't seem to be talking much sense. They talk of another world and magic"
Clerk: "They're a bit violent, too. One of them even throw a molotov right in here"
EHShimberley: "That's not unusual, isn't it?"
EHShimberley: "Speaking of magic, I mean."
EHShimberley: "The two largest street gangs around…"
EHShimberley: "They're both pretty steeped in occult symbolism, aren't they?"
Saffron: "Magic's cool!"
Galen puts a hand on Saffron's shoulder.
Saffron headtilts and looks up.
Galen just shakes his head a bit.
Clerk: "It's true, they've been giving us a lot of trouble lately, going on about their gods demanding sacrifice and all that. They've nearly turned this quarter into a warzone"
EHShimberley: "Hmm."
EHShimberley: "Whose turf were the recent arrests made on?"
Clerk: "Mostly Jonas's"
EHShimberley: "Thank you for your time."
EHShimberley: "The injured officers… are they recovering well?"
Clerk: "Most of them, but one's got severe burns and water in his lung, like they tried to burn him then drown him… I don't think he's making it through"
Saffron frowns.
Galen also frowns.
Kaori glances over at Galen. "Um… where are the wounded being treated? And the… offenders being held?"
Kaori directed that at the clerk.
EHShimberley raises a finger.
EHShimberley: "My apologies. There's no need to answer that."
Clerk: "The- Uhn?"
[OOC] Galen: Erm, advance warning. I'm going to have to leave in about 10 minutes, for… about 1/2 hour. Sorry about this, but it came up short-notice. I'll try to be back ASAP when I go.
[OOC] JayM: No issues
Kaori sends Shimberley a confused look.
EHShimberley nods to Kaori. She knows what she's doing.
EHShimberley: "Well, thank you very much for your time."
EHShimberley: "Seems like things are getting hectic here. The piece'll be dressed up right the right amount of "
our brave men in blue" and so on." She nods and heads out, whispering to Kaori-
Clerk: "Was a pleasure talking to somebody who's got more to say than complain, for once"
EHShimberley: "Well, I have a duty to keep the populace informed."
EHShimberley: "Oh. Though, one last thing."
EHShimberley: "Have the strange offenders been rendered for trial, or are they still in temporary holding?"
Clerk: "They're still in temporary holding, except the one that got the officer in the hospital"
EHShimberley nods. "I see."
EHShimberley: "Best of luck in the investigation."
Clerk: "They've all got just three weeks of arrest for resisting prision and not paying fines"
Clerk: "Trial's going to be in a month"
Saffron gives another wave to the clerk, then dashes off after Shimberly as they leave.
EHShimberley: "Kaori."
Said quietly.
EHShimberley: "As a rule of etiquette, never ask a question which cannot be answered."
EHShimberley: "…For obvious reasons, if someone attempted to kill a police officer, they cannot tell you where they are being treated."
Kaori: "Why shouldn't it be answered? Galen might be able to help the man who go hurt, and we need to get to the Kjata."
EHShimberley: "Treatment of the wounded is strongly regulated. Essentially, to ensure that it's done competently."
Saffron nods vigorously at Kaori's words.
EHShimberley: "Secondly, a wounded officer is… a target."
Galen nods. "Yeah. I was a nurse back home. It took a lot of training, and even then I wouldn't be allowed to direct treatment."
Kaori: "But you don't have to use medicine."
Kaori: "And we're exactly no closer to knowing what we should do next."
Saffron makes an :o face. "Potions are easy though."
Kaori: "So where can we go to get the information we need?"
Galen looks are Saffron. "Potions are easy if you have magic. You don't have that here, at least not much."
EHShimberley: "They haven't been rendered for trial yet, which means they're being held in gaol beneath a police station."
EHShimberley: "Probably that one, given how busy it is - this neighborhood must be the nexus, as it were, of the events of late."
Kaori: "Then let's go beneath the station."
EHShimberley: "Correct. However, the court date of one of the Kjata has been rushed."
Saffron scratches at her head. "Well… if you say so. But Ms. Kaori is right…" She then blinks a few times, "Oh, oh! Ms. Eisen said she got information from Mr. Internet. Where do we find him? Maybe he can tell us stuff!"
EHShimberley: "Think of the internet more as… a spirit."
EHShimberley: "Well, it has spirits in it, I suppose."
EHShimberley: "But when I speak of the web of energy that connects the phones, it's like that."
[OOC] Galen: Argh. I gotta go now. BRB, or back as soon as I can be.
EHShimberley: "Libraries should have terminals to it."
Saffron thinks, scrunches up her face, then headtilts. "Like… leylines?"
EHShimberley: "Yes, exactly."
EHShimberley points up to the wires running over every street.
EHShimberley: "And there they are."
Saffron nods as something seems to click. "Oh! Okay."
Saffron: "I wonder if I can ask them to take us to the Kjata…"
Kaori nods in agreement with Saffron.
EHShimberley: "Hmm."
Saffron walks over to the nearest telephone pole, places both hands on it, then scrunches up her face in concentration as she trys to communicate with it, like she does with Ms. Etherside.
EHShimberley: "But, generally, it's used to communicate. It's the world-library."
JayM: //Give me a Survival roll, Saffron //
Saffron rolled d100 and got 81 for a total of 81
JayM: //So. Saffron can feel something. Something that is very indignated at being contacted, and wants to stay alone //
Saffron lets go after a few seconds, looking very confused. "H… how rude!"
[OOC] Kaori: Can I try? If lightning Kami are electricity, then they might know where the Kjata are by proximity tothem via lights and other electric stuff.
Saffron: "Mr. Internet is a jerk."
Saffron folds her arms over her chest and 'hmph's. "Oh well."
JayM: //Hrm, go ahead, though i'll ask an Etiquette our of you //
RoboYamo|Temp: //Kaori, d100: 17 [Total: 17 (Low), Avg: 17.00] //
Kaori closes her eyes and concentrates on the humming of the wires overhead.
JayM: //Kaori tries to call for the lightning Kami for assistance. But something else answers her call. A thing, a small thing that can only be described as a small pack of pixels, jumps out of a nearby street phone, and starts jumping in front of Kaori //
JayM: //Then starts jumping, heading over there //
EHShimberley follows.
Kaori hesitates, then follows it.
Saffron blinks a lot moer times, then follows after them a few seconds later.
Following it, it does in fact leads to the local library. It then leads you to a free access computer, and then jumps on it's CD drive. In the screen, a messenger screen pops up, the name of the person who sent the message is a bunch of random characters "Good morning" it says. It isn't morning
Kaori: "…"
Saffron: "Hello!"
EHShimberley takes a seat and takes dictation from Saffron. Hello, she types.
JayM: "What are you doing here?"
Saffron: "We're looking for the Kjata!"
Kaori reads, squinting a little, then nods in response to Saffron.
EHShimberley types that in, too. (Even if it's tipping her hand a little.)
JayM: "Hmm… I don't know what a Kjata is"
Kaori: "Um, like us. They… they don't belong here."
Saffron tilts her head slightly, wondering why it's repeating everything she says, but she's met stranger spirits before. "Umm… I duno what they are here, either."
JayM: "They wave like you?"
Saffron: "But they're reeeeally big, and have two horns,"
She holds her point fingers to her head to demonstrate, "And know lotsa magic and stuff!"
JayM: "If they wave like you there are a lot, but each waves different but still waves like you"
Kaori: "…"
[OOC] JayM: Peter, do tell me what you do not type
[OOC] JayM: I'm assuming you type everything
[OOC] EHShimberley: That sounds fair! Everything that SAFFRON says gets typed.
Kaori: "What does it mean by waves?"
JayM: "But you started waving recently, so I think you want those that started to wave recently too!"
Saffron let one hand drop, then waves with the other.
Saffron: "This I think! Or."
Kaori: "But we haven't been waving at it."
Saffron pauses, and thinking.
JayM: "They are waving in the police station, below it!"
Saffron thinks thinks thinks.
JayM: "They wave pretty hard, I can feel it from here"
JayM: "You wave pretty hard too, you're nice"
Saffron: "Oh, like…"
Saffron scrunches up her face, trying to make a connection with the world again, "This?"
JayM: "Yes, yes! But the big one doesn't likes being waved into. She is moody"
Saffron nods in understanding. "Very!"
Saffron: "Um I think by waves he means our, um… what's the word…"
Saffron: "… Souls? I think! They different different and they go all wooosh when you do neat stuff."
JayM: "Everything waves!"
Kaori: "Oh. That makes sense."
Saffron: "So the Kjata are all under that place we were before?"
JayM: "Yes, they are"
JayM: "They are bad"
Saffron frowns. "Oh. I don't want to go save bad people! That's bad."
Kaori: "…how are they bad?"
EHShimberley types Kaori's question up. Might as well.
JayM: "You do wrong things, you have to pay, even if you didn't know it was wrong. You don't want to pay, you have to pay worse. If you have to pay worse, you're"
JayM: "Not knowing the law is no reason to not want to pay!"
Kaori: "But what did they do wrong?"
Saffron: "Right! Like when you get caught in a labrynth!"
JayM: "Wait a bit! There are big ones that have to take care of that information! I have to ask, please wait"
JayM: //Suddenly, a progress bar! It fills slowly //
JayM: //Then it vanishes once it hits 100% //
Saffron gasps a little.
JayM: "Two thieves, four irregular crossings, three brawls, one bum"
Saffron: "What's a bum?"
Kaori frowns. None of that makes sense to her. //
JayM: "Then one tried to kill a police man. He used big, big waves. Very bad"
Saffron: "Very bad!"
JayM: "A bum doesn't works and sleeps i nthe street"
Saffron: "I know lots of bums! That's not bad."
JayM: "You can't sleep on the street!"
JayM: "It's against the law"
Saffron: "Yeah huh! — Huh? That's a dumb law!"
